NEW YORK - Patti Davis, daughter of the late President Ronald Reagan (news - web sites), has filed a lawsuit charging that the Salvation Army canceled her speech planned for one of their events because she supports stem cell research.
Davis was scheduled through her booking agent, Greater Talent Network, to speak at a Salvation Army event in Santa Rosa, Calif., on Nov. 19 for a fee of $15,000, said her lawyer, Lawrence Fabian.

Is this a great country or what? Patti Davis gets $15,000 on the speakers circuit? What Patti Davis has to say qualifies her to opine on the speakers circuit? People will pay to see her? What a great country we live in.
After 911, most of the Big Charities took a hit in my estimation. One that hadn't was the Salvation Army. Now I'll have to re-think about them.
Finally, Davis has big brass ones trying to deny a party from backing out of a contract one month out.

This should get the Salvation Army a lot of nearly free good publicity.

I would think the Salvation Army could get some one with authority on the subject to speak for free... so much for their bell ringing...

At least they didn't ask her younger brother.

First of all: what kind of person would SUE the S.A. over 15K, especially when that person has MUCH more than that? Second, WHY would the S.A. PAY that kind of money for ANYONE to stand up and TALK? This needs to be cleared up, or I aint putting another nickel into that black kettle.

I want to go on a charm offensive. First thing I'll do is sue the Salvation Army. Right.

I always thought my donations to the Salvation Army went to the needy, not the greedy.

Love Ronald Reagan, but he didn't throw good genes. (Especially Ron Jr. What happened there?)

Shame on Patti Davis. Personal anecdote follows:
A friend of mine was pregnant in the Midwest some years ago. Many priests and pastors would not marry the couple because she was so pregnant. My friend was frantic. Let's not judge her please; the father and she wanted to get married to make right a sinful situation.
The Salvation Army were the only ones to step up to the plate and marry the couple before their beautiful daughter was born.
The Salvation Army had mercy on my friend in her time of crisis.
God bless the Salvation Army.

Why on earth did they book HER in the first place?

Do these whelps EVER do anything positive?
To: thegreatbeast
Something is not right here. I give the SA a few bucks a year for helping the down and out and they want to pay $15,000 to a certified nut to spew some diatribe...

I don't think anyone who frequents FR wants one penny of their donations to go to someone like Patty Davis. But don't lose sight of the fact that they withdrew their invitation for her to speak. SA does much good so let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater. However, I do want to see what they have to say about hiring speakers. There may be more to this story than meets the eye.

Didn't Ronald Reagan have another son named Michael?
For the problems with Patti and Ron Jr., I would look to their domineering mommy. The press loves Nancy, but she is one spooky broad in my book.

Yes, but Michael is adopted and his adoptive mother was the actress--what's her name--Ronald Reagan's first wife--I'm just blank. Anyway, Michael is great. Also, Ronald's other daughter, Maureen, whom he had with the actress was a great gal too.
You may get in trouble around here for badmouthing Nancy, but, frankly, she's never been my favorite person. I think she loved her husband so much there was nothing left for her children. They were sent away to schools so she could give her full attention to her life with Ronald Reagan.
