It was Carter Vs. Ford, so where were you during the course of that election and when Carter claimed his victory(unfortunately). It was a pretty close race.

I choose not to think about the 70s.

I was nine and remember watching it with my father on TV.

Don't know why you asked a question about an election that took place back when ice covered the Earth. But during that election, I was General Counsel to Gene McCarthy, who was running as an independent. If we had gotten Gene on just a few more state ballots, most importantly New York, we could have drawn enough votes to cost Carter a few states and get Jerry Ford elected.
How's that for arcane behavior in 19 and 76?

I was in The Honor Guard in DC when Carter won. Lord help me I hated that man.

Junior in High School before summer, senior by the time of the election.
I campaigned for Ford, debated in mock elections against Carter. I didn't like Ford but I knew Carter was going to be a disaster.
I also campaigned for J. P. Hammerschmidt against Bill Clinton in a US Congressional race. Clinton lost big time.

Freshman in college. I would laugh as SNL made fun of both sides.
I was exploring my politicism -- I think I took a fly at Socialsim about then. It took me a little while to figure out just how stupid a political philosophy that is, and understanding it well, develop a lifetime emnity towards it.

Stationed at Ft Riley Kansas, 1st infantry division, and busy doing what I could to help Mr Ford. We knew Carter was going to be really bad for the military. AND HE WAS!!

If you were a husband, you were carefully watching your wife, lest the President-Elect set his eyes on her. That's just my guess. I'm only 20.
Ah, well, he only committed adultery in his heart.
As for me, I was probably potty-training and tormenting my baby sister.

I was a newlywed at the age of 19. Gee was I stupid.

Working in Manhattan near the WTC. Out of the service by a year and a half. I got sucked into the zero based budget plan by Carter, and the fact he served on nuclear submarines (which he never did) and the SNL skits about Ford being a pathetic athlete. Turns our Gerald Ford is considered the most athletic president in history, based on his college football career.
So yeah, I have some responsibilty for the peanut farmer. Ford earned some of it with his WIN (wip inflation now) buttons. He was way over his head.

I was 17, not old enough to vote. I wish I had saved my "WIN" button. :-)

I had just entered Kindergarten in September. White milk was 10 cents, chocolate milk was 15 cents. That's pretty much what mattered at the moment.

I was in the 2nd grade I believe. I remember one of my classmates was running around the school telling everybody that if Ford was elected he was going to make us kids go to school 365 days a year - no summer break! She got a lot of other kids saying the same thing. Damn, the Democrats sure do start their kids young on the fear mongering!
