Married Up; Kerrys Blundering Reagan Rip-off

“Married Up” – Kerry’s Blundering Reagan Rip-off

As we all know, President Reagan passed away this summer. In the multitude of heartfelt remembrances and eulogies, Brian Mulroney, former Primer Minister of Canada, related this story:

President Reagan had spoken to Parliament, handled complex files with skill and good humor -- strongly impressing his Canadian hosts -- and here we were, waiting for our wives.

When their car drove in a moment later, out stepped Nancy and Mila -- looking like a million bucks. As they headed towards us, President Reagan beamed, threw his arm around my shoulder and said with a grin: "You know, Brian, for two Irishmen we sure married up."

In that visit -- in that moment -- one saw the quintessential Ronald Reagan -- the leader we respected, the neighbor we admired and the friend we loved -- a president of the United States of America whose truly remarkable life we celebrate in this magnificent cathedral today.

In yesterday’s debate John Kerry rather shamelessly appropriated Reagan’s line about marrying up. Here’s what Kerry said:

Well, I guess the president and you and I are three examples of lucky people who married up.

And some would say maybe me moreso than others.

But I can take it.

Reagan’s joke was self deprecating and good natured and even played in to the American dream of the underdog being the winner. The class and beauty of their wives formed the basis of the gag. Class and beauty is what they “married up” to.

Kerry, on the other hand, transformed “marrying up” in to marrying wealth. His crass “me moreso than others” took the class and beauty out of it and made him come off as the smarmy gigolo he is.

He tried to rip-off Reagan but couldn’t even do that right because Kerry just doesn’t get it.

I watched that on replay last night. An excruciatingly bad moment for Kerry.

I loved it when President Bush said that Kerry makes Teddy Kennedy look conservative.

Indeed. I thought it was, perhaps, the most transparent moment Kerry has had in all three debates. He looked pathetic, and despite his smile, knew he was comparing himself to men FAR graeter than he. I only wish Nancy was there to walk up on stage and thump him for even using Reagan's good name in the same sentence as his.

KERRY CONTINUES TO PROVE HE IS AN IDIOT. And his "USEFUL IDIOTS" support this buffoon.

You mean Ronald Reagan didn't marry Nancy just because she had lots of multi-million dollar houses and could buy him a $6,000 bicycle for each one?

A matter of Kerry watching in debate prep... Let me see what do I think good Conservatives want to hear.. hmmm if I can just score with them I will royally screw them as president.... I will make Roe V Wade virtually impossible to overturn... hell I will even allow women only if they really choose to of course but Abortion should be a mothers choice even up to 3 weeks after birth that seems like when life really starts you know... when those baby things open their eyes and stuff..

Kerry is a MONSTER... Make no Mistake about it.....

If Kerry had married a syphilitic crack whore, he still would have married up.

Yeah, but Bush didn't dump a first wife so he could marry a stinkin' rich widow. Can you say gigolo? I knew you could...:)

> An excruciatingly bad moment for Kerry.

Which most of his extemporaneous moments seem to be.

When Kerry goes off-script, he creates quotes for
political commentators, if not RNC commercials.

Your right for someone touted as just briliant, Kerry is dumb as dirt. He did not even get the real meaning of Regan's line or see the "inclusiveness" in it. and by trying to tout his wife as elevated or better than Nancy Regan or Laura Bush, at BEST Kerry come across as an arrogant braggard (which of course he is). I just doubt he wanted to show his real self to that extent. So kerry is either Dumb or-- dumb and arrogant. Those are the choices, it seems. Kerry would have been very wise to have steered totally clear of any Marriage comparisons.

teresa soon to be released tax returns couple with an SUV and luxury boat, and mansion (including foreign houses) tally
will let everyone know just exactly what kerry meant.

To say that he married up "moreso than others" makes the statement explicitly about money, because that is the one thing that Teresa has more of than just about anybody.

So instead of a moment of sharing good fortune in a friendly gesture and incidentally complimenting the other fellow's wife, John F'n turned it into a contest over who grabbed the most money.

A small thing, but a very revealing moment, IMHO.

This is LOL ironic- Kerry stealing a quote from Reagan, who genuinely loved his wife and adored the ground she walked on. Of course RR intended his comment as a tribute to Nancy's grace and style.

But what was the serial gigolo Kerry inferring about his relationship with TerAYza (and Julia Thorne?)?

That THEY married down!

The bigger problem with his response was that he was asked to talk about Teresa, and he instead talked about his MOTHER for most of the segment. Teresa is going to rip him a new one over this. I wonder if the Secret Service is supposed to protect him from her.

And some would say maybe me moreso than others.

And it also popped instantly in my mind that this was his second marriage which increased his net worth by $500 million.

but... according to the online polls, Kerry won the debate!

And all of the Democrat spokesmen this morning were saying that Kerry looked presidential... how could that happen if he was so crass and unseemly?

I don't get it. Its like maybe they saw a different debate than we did... and the online polls, how do they all favor Kerry if he did so bad?

What Kerry should have said was "I traded up!", from one rich heiress to an even richer one!

The most ironic statement Kerry made last night, in my opinion, was when he talked about the private schools he attended, and in the same sentence, on the same topic, talked about the "have's" and the "have nots"!

here is an excerpt:

I was taught -- I went to a church school and I was taught that the two greatest commandments are: Love the Lord, your God, with all your mind, your body and your soul, and love your neighbor as yourself. And frankly, I think we have a lot more loving of our neighbor to do in this country and on this planet.

We have a separate and unequal school system in the United States of America. There's one for the people who have, and there's one for the people who don't have. And we're struggling with that today.

How ironic! He indicated he was "people who have". To imply he was one who did not have, or that he could empathize with those who don't have, is laughable.
