INSTANT DEBATE REACTION
1) Bob Schieffer is a terrible moderator: The questions are so much worse and so much more pompous than those from audience members last week. That lame-o "poverty" question is a classic: It's fair enough to talk about poverty, but the assumption that the way to lessen poverty is to increase the minimum wage is reflexive leftie laziness.
2) "Do you believe homosexuality is a choice?" Do you believe choosing dumb questions is a choice or socially conditioned by 73 years in the CBS newsroom?
3) I'm beginning to reckon this weird obsession by Kerry-Edwards on bringing up Dick Cheney's gay daughter every time can't be anything other than a covert pitch for the bigot vote. You can almost feel their frustration that it's a cute looking lesbian and not some queeny guy. Leave other people's kids out of it. Bush doesn't bring up Kerry's daughter wearing a see-through dress to the Cannes Film Festival and oilily profess how much he admires they way they still love her even though she showed her breasts to the entire world.
4) I'm kinda debated out. Has either side got anything it really wants to debate with the other? On most issues, we've nothing to say. On others - illegal immigration - both sides are full of it. If we're going to have stilted fake contests, the third round should have been WWF.
5) Kerry: "That's how you gain legitimacy with your own country people." Country people? Friends, Romans, country people, lend me your tin ears.
6) Bob Schieffer: "The three of us are all married to strong women." Maybe next time yours could moderate the debate.
7) Memo to Kerry: When you're asked about your wife, don't talk about your mother. And isn't there something weird about your mother on her deathbed feeling the need to remind you about integrity?
VERDICT: BUSH: If he'd been like this in the first debate, we'd be in 42-state blowout territory.
Well, his wife likes to talk about her former husband in public, so tit for tat.
But seriesly, I suspect that a lot of women picked up on his words and attitude and don't like either one bit.
Not that I have a clue about what wimmin think. I've been working on Mrs. Homer for 23 years and still get tripped up.
I have no doubt that Christopher Reeve will walk again...just enough to get out of the grave and vote Democrat.
"Integrity Integrity Intergity". His mother's last words were seared -- seared in John Kerry's mind (like Christmas in Cambodia).
I think if Pres. did better in the first debate it would still be a draw. And the fixed polls would still be close. They need them close to have news.
Why do I have this feeling that her real last words to him were, "Marry money"?
I will tell you in a sentence what both guys tried to do earlier this evening: they wanted to get the women's vote. It was all about pitching to the gals and moms out there. If you were a guy, you probably lost interest after the first five minutes.
Yup, this is the paydirt. Kerry's mother brought him up to ENVY his rich relatives - to lie to increase his self-esteem.
His acknoledgement of Teresa was that he married 'up' - not that he loved her.. just droaned on about his mother.
W filled up when he spoke about his wife and children.
thanks
A few moments after the debate ended, I saw a shot of Laura and the girls, then it switched to TehRAYza. She did NOT look happy. I wonder whether it was her boy getting taken to the woodshed or his comments, or lack thereof, about her that pissed on her parade. Could be both.
Did you read the article in which sKerry referrd to himself as an outdoorsperson? That, my friend, is how far off the deep end he is. (And then he takes it even further by elucidating and showing how little he knows about hunting.)
I could tell that there were certain messages that were aimed at women. My uninformed (non-female) opinion is that Kerry fumbled his messages often, and Bush's straight, genuine answers made Kerry's akwardness stand out like a sore thumb.
Her last words were really " Out Cheney's daughter".
I thought I was the only one wincing at that. (Bad case of proofreader's ear.)
Same here. Had an adverse reaction to some meds and wound up in the ER. They gave me a phone and I called my son. What I thought might be my last words before they took the phone way, were not some bull like, "Integrity, Integrity, Integrity" but where I was, how much I loved him, and a reminder where the important papers were.
Kerry is a lying a$$hole.
Actually, he probably sent in his absentee ballot or it will be going in.
I commented on another thread that I thought that was Kerry's Kitty Dukakis moment.
Was he implying he married Teresa for her dough or does he still have Mother issues to deal with?
