RedState Scoop: The Swift Boat Vets Final Ads [two ads, with announcers words, first to be on MNF]
redstate.org ^ | Oct 13, 2004 | Mike Krempasky

Posted on 10/13/2004 12:56:30 PM PDT by Mike Fieschko

We promised it, so here it is. And surprise - it's not one ad but two! These ads will debut tonight on FoxNews (Special Report w/ Brit Hume), but we have the transcripts.

This is going to be a MASSIVE ad puchase, and as was hinted earlier, they will be aired during Monday Night Football

The first ad is a 60-second spot featuring 90 swift boat veterans, in a a three-deep line, with the camera panning across the crowd - close-up and slowly. No vets speak, but the announcer delivers the following lines:

Announcer: They served their country with courage and distinction. They’re the men who served with John Kerry in Vietnam.

Announcer: They’re his entire chain of command, most of the officers in Kerry’s unit. Even the gunner from his own boat.

Announcer: And they’re the men who spent years in North Vietnamese prison camps.

Announcer: Tortured for refusing to confess what John Kerry accused them of. . . of being war criminals.

Announcer: They were also decorated. Many very highly. But they kept their medals.

Announcer: Today they are teachers, farmers, businessman, ministers, and community leaders. And of course, fathers and grandfathers.

Announcer: With nothing to gain for themselves, except the satisfaction that comes with telling the truth, they have come forward to talk about the John Kerry they know.

Announcer: Because to them honesty and character still matters. . . especially in a time of war.

Announcer: Swift Vets and POW’s for Truth are responsible for the content of this advertisement.

It's a powerful, moving, picture - these men coming forward, without aliases or surrogates. As another RedState editor wrote, there is no guile in these men. Read on for the second, and much more damaging ad:

The second spot, also a 60-second ad, showing several groups (about 10) of swift boat veterans, one after another - with each group of vets featuring one single man posing a question to John Kerry. And the most important of all the vets involved delivers what I believe is a serious, serious, body blow.

John Edwards: If you have an questions about what John Kerry’s made of (echo on “made of”)...

Van Odell: Why do so many of us have serious questions?

Dr. Louis Letson: How did you get your purple heart when your commanding officer didn’t approve it?

Steve Gardner: Why have you repeatedly claimed you were illegally sent into Cambodia. . .

Bob Elder: . . . when it has been proven that you were not?

Jim Werner: How could you accuse us of being war criminals. . .

Ken Cordier: . . . and secretly meet with the enemy in Paris. . .

Mike Solhaug: . . . and promote the enemy’s position back home. . .

Paul Galanti: . . . when I was a POW, and Americans were being killed in combat.

Bud Day: How can you expect our sons and daughters to follow you, when you condemned their fathers and grandfathers?

Joe Ponder: Why is this relevant?

Tom Hanton: Because character and honesty matter. Especially in a time of war.

Rear Admiral Roy Hoffman: John Kerry cannot be trusted.

Announcer: Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is responsible for the content of this advertisement.

I wouldn't advise the Swift Vets to hold their collective breath for answers to these questions, but they damn well deserve them.

It would be far more effective to just DO this (air them), and NOT telegraph it in advance, so that the Kerry Kamp can prepare counters.

Beats me. All sides do that.

What a joke. Other than the initial furor in August over the original ad and "Unfit For Command", JF'n has done little but thumb his nose at the Swifties and say "so what, no one really cares what you think". And nobody with a real voice holds him accountable for this atrocious attitude. In fact, his media cheerleaders have all piled on, tripping over themselves to try and discredit an honorable group of American veterans. Of course, that's all the sport these days for the despicable liberal crowd.

And most disgustingly, nothing has really come from this, other than maybe assuaging some long-overdue feelings of betrayal within the Swifties; that at last they did the best they could and got their grievances aired. Too bad that in our instant-gratification culture nobody could really be bothered with a thiry-year-old grudge. Besides, the MSM said they were liars and our "LA Law" primed society seized immediately on this as "reasonable doubt". Nothing to see here folks, move along.

Let's face it, mainstream America doesn't give a damn about the military or our veterans. As a qualification, it buys you nothing in the race for the WH. It is only useful when it can be turned against your opponent (as in "I was there, where were you, slacker?") An openly-admitted pot-smoking draft-dodger was elected TWICE as the POTUS, both times against highly-decorated veterans who just happened to spend most of their lives dedicated to public service.

The handwriting is on the wall. Ours is a culture of "what have you done for me today". Lightweight feel-good messages, slick production numbers, and $500 haircuts are the order of the day.

Like Billy Crystal used to say, "It is better to look mah-velous than to be mah-velous". And you, John F'n Kerry, just "look mah-velous".

I HOPE THEY MENTIONED THAT COL. BUD DAY RECEIVED THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR!

If I were a gambling man -- and I am -- I'd bet that he's wearing is Congressional Medal of Honor in the spots.

"I am so glad that I contributed to them twice this month instead of to the GOP. These guys are making a difference. They are just ordinary people that Kerry is once again stomping on. They have lots of courage."

Same here, those guys are friggin heroes.

It just occurred to me:

These ads will run after the final debate, which is tonight.

So ... if Bush does poorly, this tries to cut any Kerry bounce off at the knees.

If Bush does well, these ads are a second and third stage, boosting him into ordbit.

Heh heh heh < /celebrity voice impersonation>

It's a shame we don't see the chyron; it probably adds a lot to the impact of these ads.

Next buy should be the Oprah show.

Not that I want any of our money going to that traitor to America, but it will hit her women fan base -- many of them soccer/security moms.

well said liberty! People like my husband are risking their lives right now to keep this country safe! The media *claims* to support our troops blah blah blah! THEY KNOW better. I know this for a FACT they do not want to serve under Kerry!! Many I know have their retirement papers ready incase Kerry's wins, they will retire so they do NOT have this traitor's name on their retirement papers.

The killer line (in my opinion) in the first ad:

They were also decorated. Many very highly. But they kept their medals.

= = = =

BUT THEY KEPT THEIR MEDALS!
