While flying a 'Wild Weasel' mission over Vietnam, and running dangerously low on fuel, Maj. Leo Thorsness and back-seater Capt. Harold Johnson confront a Mig-17 while circling above Thorsness' downed wing-man. This action earned Thorsness the Medal of Honor, and Johnson received the Air Force Cross. |
Many of the folks watching MNF will be union/Reagan Democrat types. They need to be reached, and even the ones in the blue states can help us out by holding onto their money and time instead of giving it to Kerry's campaign.
Let's be optimistic and say all three. After all, $14 is a big buy, even for something like MNF.
If that's the case, these ads will not only be seen by folks all over the nation, but also a large number of viewers in Florida, Missouri, Colorado, Ohio, and then Florida again--All battlegrounds. Many of the Jets fans watcjhing the third game will be in Jersey, which is also, improbably, a battleground state.
And ladies and gents, Reagan Democrats watch football in the same kind of nuers conservatives do. this could be very effective.
The problem is, what do they prepare as a response? "Those war heroes are lying about our war hero! Bud Day is a doodyhead! Neener-neener-neener!" Or maybe, "I'm rubber and you're glue..."
They had months to prepare for the first round of Swiftee ads and they failed. They had weeks to prepare for Stolen Honor geting traction and they're screwing that up too. I bet they don't have any answer for this, either.
See my post 145
Day is wearing his MOH. The guy I think is Thorsness isn't wearing his, but I might be wrong.
We shall see. Frankly, I think veterans will come out and vote in droves, and smack Kerry down to defeat.
Next 3 MNF games (if they are going for all 3):
Tampa Bay at St Louis (Florida & Missouri)
Denver at Cincy (Colorado & Ohio)
Miami at the Jets (Florida again & New York)
These are some real nice possible state audiences. We need to boost them up so they can run on all 3 coming up if possible.
I thank you and your husband for serving our nation.
No, oyu only said that the ads were pointless on MNF because the audience would containa "prepondernace of Bush voters."
Not quite the same thing, but just as preposterous.
As anecdotal evidence, one of the folks who frequently gives me the one-fingered salute when we hold local troop-support rallies drives a car with about 6 Packer decals and a license plate that says "PCKR BCKR."
Heh-heh. I think Jersey will eventually go for Kerry, but not before Dubya foces them tospend money and time there that they would rather spend in the Midwest.
Dunya has a solid lead in Florida, and is slightly ahead in Ohio, and can get his lead there back, IMHO. If he wins them both, Kerry' dead. If Bush wins Florida and most of the other battlegrounds, Kerry is dead.
To win, kerry must hold everything Gore won and get a state or two that Gore lost. And he's already lost Wisconsin for sure, so he has to make up that ground.
Two, actually. Bud Day and Leo Thorsness. See post 140 for their Medal of Honor Citations, and 142 for a painting of Thorsness earning his MOH.
