The right-wing echo chamber Free Republic, where private citizens spit pseudonymous venom, is also a rich treasure trove of nastiness. In late 2003 when the Massachusetts Supreme Court voted to allow marriage rights for same-sex couples, the Freepers went off:
"This is great that Massachusett's gay judges did this. Let all the fudgepackers move there and be clients of the Dickem and Dunkem (Ted Kennedy) law firm," wrote a poster named "Therapist."
"Can I marry my mule?" asked another.
Another responded: "Sorry. Next step is to give them your boys. They want the age of consent lowered to around 10 years old. Your mule will have to wait in line."
"There is nothing 'normal' about homos," another added. "Even the wild animals know better (Except male goats. They're really filthy)."

actually, they do have core beliefs...just the wrong ones.
they believe in secular humanism, hedonism, etc.
their beliefs are built on the assumption that God does not exist, or if he does exist then he is irrelevent, and downright offensive.
11 cents, IF you can find a buyer.
Yup. And Judges that "allow" er, make up rights that don't exist, marriage "rights" for homosexuals, abortion "rights" for mothers that wish to murder their children, etc.
In GOVERNMENT we trust.
Damn right. If somebody posts something that looks like it was copied from DU with only the names and slurs changed, expect that an outsider reading it will form the same opinion of us as we have of DU.
Another responded: "Sorry. Next step is to give them your boys. They want the age of consent lowered to around 10 years old. Your mule will have to wait in line."
"There is nothing 'normal' about homos," another added. "Even the wild animals know better (Except male goats. They're really filthy)."
What's the problem? These are great quotes! The liberals pucker up at these examples, but how many readers crack up and think, "I've gotta check out Free Republic".
This trollman er Follman is a real maroon.
Great post. It reminds me of the book that Barney Frank and Governor McGreevy co-authored. They both love birds apparently, because their book was titled, "I Never Touched A Parakeet, But I Kissed A Cockatoo".
Hmph. They call those smears? They call those cruel? HA! Wait'll they get a load of me.
Mark Follman aka the F*ckup Fairy crawled out of his hole to spread pixie dust ! How sweet.....
Speak trash (no matter who you are or where you are) and it will come back to haunt you and trash the site you were posting on.
Why is it so "cool" to speak utter gutter language everytime a gay is mentioned?
I hit the abuse button over gutter sexually-explicit metaphors no matter what sexual orientation as I feel it cheapens the site.
Do the respected bloggers have such language on their sites? Surely we are able to discuss without explicit metaphors depicting sexual practices - or maybe we just need to put "XXX" in the title or post a "language" warning.
Do we really want to invite our relatives and friends to FR when instead of being impressed they will think we have gone to the dark side? I remember years ago the first time I mentioned at work something about FR and the comment was "Oh, you better be careful - there are a bunch of weird-o's there". Sort of like we say about DU.
FR is such a great site - why does it need to be disrespected over gutter language?
The Truth hurts, it isn't venom, it is a gathering of people who care about this country.
Salon probably just pissed we get more hits.
i agree with you.
one thing is that its the same on both sides - rather than discuss politics, many end up generalising and insulting the other side. just like theres DU threads attacking righties, theres freep threads attacking lefties with no real purpose than to demonise those who have come to different conclusions. each side thinks the other is worse at this, but from what ive seen theres pots and kettles on both sides of the political divide.
the obsession with the other side generally starts with a lack of understanding. i supported both wars, but i have anti-war freinds and ytou know they arent unreasonable people. you can shake your head and write off their opinions as blind ideology but thats ignorance on our part. i can see why they come to these conclusions, but i disagree with them. simple. then we have a beer.
why cant we disagree with people without calling them names? why cant they do the same? at least some of us seem to be able to do this.
Why didn't you just say you agreed with Salon.com and leave it at that?
There's not a bigoted bone in my body. But, if you want to make nice with the vitriolic left, have at it, but don't call me a bigot just because I happen to speak the truth, but if the truth offends you, I'm sorry.
It's telling that they had to go all the way back to 2003 for the "shocking" quotes about the Massachusetts Supremes' crime against logic and the nuclear family. What they fail to realize is that all of us "pseudonymous venom" spitters is that we make up the majority. If the truth was told about that court decision, everyone would know that the advocates of same-sex marriage in the legislature broke their own law in order to thwart an anti-gay marriage referendum that should have been on a statewide ballot before that decision.
Salon's associate editor Mark Follman is bagging on the RNC bloggers. Yeah, that Mark Follman --the one you never heard of from the "on-line magazine" nobody reads. Somebody tell me when Tommy Franks gives him an interview, or Karl Rove, or Terry McAuliffe. He should read Glenn Reynolds in today's Wall Street Journal:
"With accredited bloggers at both conventions, this can fairly be called the first presidential election to be blogged. And that just might matter -- though if it does, it will be as much because of big-media vices as it is of bloggers' virtues....

Might have if I had known what they said. I'm not going to register there to read their junk but I get a little irritated everytime I see stupid trash talk come back to reflect on all of us and the site.
I would think people would realize that their choice of language reflects on the site as a whole, on the owner and all his work to create the site. Aren't we more than just a "chat room"? Do we have to be like Yahoo and continually wade through trash to even play a game?
The left will be in for a rude awakening when the same 90% that was against the 9th Circuit's ruling on the removal of God in the Pledge Of Allegiance will also ban same sex marriages by shooting it down in the years to come in the electoral process.
(Sniffle) Gosh, Foolman is so "tolerant and compassionate" (sob).
