"They Better Hope We Don't Win" - Kerry Campaign Threat to Sinclair Broadcasting
Dayside - FNC

Posted on 10/12/2004 10:19:45 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Linda Vester is currentlly interviewing Chad Clanton, described as a 'senior Kerry campaign advisor.'

Discussing the plans of the Sinclair broadcasting group to air "Stolen Honor," the documentary about Kerry's Vietnam war service, Clanton stated:

"They [Sinclair] better hope that we're not elected."

Vester immediately asked if that was intended as a threat to Sinclair that a Kerry administration would not renew their broadcast licenses. Clanton tried to back off, but the threat was unmistakable.

These people are thugs.

This is a dynamite example of how terrified Team Kerry is of this video. More importantly, it's a first hand demonstration of how Kerry would negotiate with other nations in disagreement with a Kerry administration. Threats and intimidation. That's Kerry's secret plan.

A caller just asked Rush if Kerry is going after Sinclaire is Rush next. It was a classic. The caller said he wanted to see Kerry try to take on Rush and lose.

Perhaps if Commissioner Michael J. Copps had done his job properly, all the new election laws would have been clarified. However, not responding to the Bush lawsuit against the 527s puts us where we are now...in FCC limbo.

Perhaps Commissioner Michael J. Copps needs to be replaced.

Talk Radio needs to be all over this.

Because if they are willing to shut down Sinclair, what do you think they will do about Rush and Savage?

they are terrified of this movie. rightly so. Kerry has absolutely no answer for it.

and I am thrilled that it is getting so much publicity. people who don't get a Sinclair station (like me) are going to demand access to the movie if this keeps up!

What movie? Oh, yeah, the one Sinclair is airing on their TV stations! That's not all that informative...

This will be above the fold.....hitting the wires heavy right now...

The Frontrunner October 12, 2004 Tuesday

Democrats Challenging Sinclair's Plan To Run Anti-Kerry Documentary

CBS Evening News (10/11, story 2, Axelrod) reported, "Today, another front opened up in the battleground. The Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which owns or runs 62 television stations, including three CBS affiliates, plans to preempt prime-time schedules to show an anti-Kerry documentary in the final weeks. Democrats will challenge. As many as 12 of those stations that could show the documentary are in the three states that will probably decide it all."

The Washington Post (10/12, Kurtz, Ahrens) reports in a front page story, "Few Americans have heard of David D. Smith, a low-key Baltimore businessman with a million-dollar salary. Or, for that matter, of his three brothers, Frederick, Robert and J. Duncan." But the four, "while shunning the media spotlight, have assembled the nation's largest collection of television stations, a family-run operation that reflects their conservative views and time and again has sided with President Bush." Now Sinclair's "decision to order its 62 stations to carry a movie attacking Kerry's Vietnam record is drawing political fire -- not least from the Democratic National Committee, which plans to file a federal complaint today accusing the company of election-law violations." In the "four days since the Los Angeles Times disclosed that Sinclair has told its stations to preempt regular programming and air 'Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal,' by former Washington Times reporter and Vietnam veteran Carlton Sherwood, industry executives have said they cannot think of a precedent involving a major television chain." Federal Communications Commissioner Michael J. Copps, a Democrat, said in a statement, "This is an abuse of the public trust. And it is proof positive of media consolidation run amok when one owner can use the public airwaves to blanket the country with its political ideology -- whether liberal or conservative."

Howard Kurtz said on CNN's Inside Politics (10/11), "There are two sides to the John Kerry Vietnam story. Supporters highlight the combat heroism that won him a slew of medals. Detractors question the circumstances of some of those declarations and focus on Kerry's rhetoric as an anti-war activist when he returned home. ... In the days before the election, Sinclair Broadcasting will be showing only one side. The company has ordered its 62 stations, from Baltimore to Sacramento, to air the anti-Kerry film 'Stolen Honor.' It's made by former Washington Times reporter and decorated Vietnam veteran Carlton Sherwood. And it argues with his anti-war testimony in 1971, Kerry was branding all American soldiers as baby killers, war criminals, and deranged, drug-addicted psychopaths." Kurtz added, "Sinclair doesn't hide its conservative bent. Ninety-seven percent of the money the company executives have contributed in this campaign have gone to Republicans." Kurtz also noted, "Kerry spokesman David Wade calls Sinclair's decision to trumpet 'Stolen Honor' a smear and a form of yellow journalism. A Sinclair vice president told The Washington Post that the film tells a 'powerful story,' and that the broadcasters 'are acting like Holocaust deniers about Kerry's past.'"

I've never seen him demonstrate a liberal or conservative bias. He's mostly just funny.

The political party that audited all of their perceived political enemies in the 1990s. The political party that obtained the raw FBI files of the opposing party's members in congress.

At least they are consistent.

Good. Also use this on anyone who intends to vote for Kerry. Only ardent Bush haters will be unaffected by this.

I heard that statement from the little weasel Clanton and I was absolutely speechless that he would say that on the air.

Just shows how desperate the RATS are at this point.

Rush is about to replay the Chad Clinton comment on his radio program. Apparently, Chad also incorrectly states that the FCC has issued a statement, when, in fact, it is just one member of the FCC, posted elsewhere on FR.
