Yes, but it's more interesting because it's an implicit admission that Kerry's NOT gonna win..

But Democrats won't gain control of the Senate. Democrats are going to lose to Republicans in Georgia and South Carolina for sure (+2 R) and possibly North Carolina and South Dakota, too.

The Senate would elect the vice president by majority vote, choosing Cheney or EdwardsSays who?

All the more reason to make sure that the GOP retains control of the Senate.

Dems are getting desperate if they're already playing this game of "what if?". BTW, the GOP will gain NC, SC, GA, FL, LA, and SD in the senate. They will only lose IL, giving the GOP a net gain of 5 seats. Cheney will continue to be the president of the Senate for another 4 years.
To: NewMediaFan
This is hilarious. The libs are so desperate that they have come up with this crazy string of scenarios that will only work if all the stars are lined up and Jupiter is aligned with Mars. We, my freeper friends, have witnessed the libs last great hope for this election.

I can plausibly envision an election fiasco like in 2000 but not this outcome. Number one reason being that the Senate will remain Republican.
But if the election is anywhere near the tie scenario, there will be several court challenges, the primary one being with the Colorado fiasco.
To: NewMediaFan
Remember the 60's & JFK. Everyone joked about LBwho? If such an insane scenario came to pass, GW would have to keep edwards busy and away from Washington to minimize the damage he could do. How about, opening shopping centers in Idaho? Then he'd have to move Dick Cheney into National Security.

GtG

Even if this scenario played out - which is preposterous - it wouldn't matter.
The President would simply ignore Edwards and Edwards would call some whiny press conferences to complain about being ignored.

But the vote would be taken in the current Senate. The new senate, however it turns out won't be in session till 1/20/05.
True??

Could.
Won't.
Don't these reporter/writers have one functioning braincell? The Republicans have a solid majority in the House. Does this reporter/writer, Matthew Eisley, really think most would vote Edwards?
Eisley, you need a long vacation or a new profession. A prognosticator, you aren't.

I highly doubt that there aren't at least a couple Dems in the Senate who would see the historical wisdom of ensuring that the VP was from the same party as the Pres, simply to reduce assassination incentives.
