How to tell who really won the Debate: The Democratic Spinmeisters
The Mainstream Media take on who won the debate has been that it was more or less a tie, with alternate reports that one or the other of the two candidates scored needed points. But I noticed something last night as I was watching the post-debate Spinmeisters attempt to frame the results in a manner that suited their own candidate. The Republican spin largely focused on what went on in the debate itself and how it relates to some particular issue to which the commentator of the moment wished to draw attention. What I found strikingly different among those Kerry supporters trying the spin the results in his favor is that they frequently returned to the first debate, as if wanting to draw the audience's attention away from what happened in St. Louis, where I contend President Bush scored a strategic victory, not necessarily in winning this or that point of argument but in reestablishing a direct relationship with voters beyond that of John Kerry.
One of the best examples I saw of this was Mike McCurry, who I watched - and I think it was on MSNBC, though I cannot say for sure - make a comment to the effect that he believed "the President seemed to be trying to backtrack to the first debate to make up ground he lost there." And as he continued McCurry must have mentioned the first debate at least three more times. Hillary Clinton did something very similar when interviewed and commenting on President Bush's Iraq policy saying that "what you saw tonight was more of the same thing you saw from President Bush in the first debate." And as she continued she made additional references to the first encounter in Florida. I saw other Kerry supporters do the same thing. I've tried to find some web content to link to on this, but most of it seems to be in video format, and I believe it might violate our code of decency to ask you to sit and watch Kerry supporters speaking on anything.
Am I the only one wondering why the Democratic spin on this debate continually tries to frame it within the context of the first debate?
So I submit to all of you that, in spite of what their publicly-stated viewpoint is on the debate, the Kerry spinmeisters know that Bush outperformed their man and, for that reason, they are trying to distract public attention away from what happened last night in St. Louis and to remind everyone instead of the Miami debate. For those of you who will watch the Sunday morning news discussion programs tomorrow, pay attention to the point I raise here, that the Democratic spin will attempt to refocus attention on the first debate. I personally regard that tactic as proof positive that President Bush won last night's encounter in St. Louis.
The reaction I'm getting from people is that they are pretty tired of the spinmeisters, analysts, pundits, pollsters and blathering heads interpreting for us what we just saw with our own eyes.
We aren't stupid.
It is as pointless as trying to talk to them.
Oh do I second that "emotion". Can't listen and/or argue with a liberal. Period.
What a perfect metaphor for the Stone-age press distorting the truth for all the world to see. Just like last weeks debate where the moderator wanted to become the story and asking anti-Bush question after question. Starting Yaaawn with, would you be a better President? Whats he going to say no? Then Mr. Hate your guts President, explain your failed War! Here in a Town hall debate Charlie Glibson helps Yaawn clarify one question and then tries to corner President Bush with Charlies follow-up he had been laying in wait for.
The proud Republican looked at the Ratherforged Danosaur holding the Gate with all of his weight, trying to pin Capitalism in its box. spewing its vile flames. The young strapping cowboy sized up the situation and decided if your are going to keep that Gate closed, I will turn my steed out the Internets Gate and talk to the American People directly. He has those rare instincts of a normal person to say, if your not going to let me get my message out; then I will go talk to my people my way. What a perfect metaphor for the dying mediaCrats of the Old NY Times and ABDNCBS and Ws way of leading.
And what a message he gave! Not only did he defeat the media, he fileted Yaawn with the skill of a Champion Bass Fisherman. He turned to the people with arm extended and said, Tell Tony Blair, your going it alone, tell Berlusconi, your going it alone, tell the President of Poland Kwasniewski, your going it alone..You Cant Lead a coalition that way! Game, set.....
That was a rhetorical moment for all times.
This debate will go down as one of the Great Debates of this country. President Bush not only defeated and exposed Yaaawn Tax & Carry for the Liberal he is but exposed the press to the American People. He was masterful in his delivery and his answers were complete and from the heart. This President has one of the most complex minds that has occupied that office since Lincoln. I would say Ronald Reagan, but Yaaawn seems to mention RR at least 10 times per debate trying to sound Conservative even though he hated Reagan.
From that moment on you could see that Kerry was done. Searching for ideas and numerous times unable to come up with words. His answers were disjointed syntax and not on topic add to that his turning from the audience to lecture and dress down The President of The United States on his failed policies was way over the top.
His worst answer of all, was his answer on abortion. The beautiful young lady with the angelic face asked a question from her heart about the need to end Partial Birth Abortion? Yaawn attempts to answer it by saying he was in Vietna....no that he was a Catholic and an Alter Boy? What does being an alter boy have to do with abortion?? He fished for Dingbats work with Planned Abortionhood and then after W answered it so clearly and compassionately, Yaawn has to have a follow-up?? Why would anyone need to have a follow-up on abortion?? Abortion is not an issue that you debate with your mind. Either you believe it is a baby and death or you dont.
What a night and what an answer to Prayers. GW showed the country and the world why we Bushbots love him like only one other President, his mentor; who must have that twinkling little eye and that rosy smile, President Ronald Wilson Reagan.
Pray for W and Our Troops
He said the Cheney-Edwards debate was like a howitzer against a water pistol.
And he said Bush won decisively last night.
That makes me believe some day Matthews might go the way of Pat Caddel.
"It's been a horrible week for the Bush campaign."
And painful to listen to their lies and deceit, and incessant attacks with false talking points.
I watched the debate this morning. Kerry scored some points but Bush was great, relaxed, happy, forceful. In other words, himself. Laura was the same. Tereza was her usual scary self to the extent the camera let us see her. I saw her shaking the hand of an African American man and her face looked like she would rather be anywhere else, doing anything else.
It depends on the meaning of the word "we." The 50 million voters that support President Bush are able to see through the liberal spinmeisters. The approximately equal number of Kerry supporters are, in fact, stupid. How else can we explain it?
I agree. I also think that, as with Debate 1, Kerry provided the GOP with even more ammo. His responses on abortion will win him little new support (the social libs already back him) and will lose him even more of the Catholic vote, including Hispanics. His tax comments make clear that he will pursue old-line Dem tax policy, which is anathema to small businesses. It was all confirmation that every time Kerry opens his mouth for any serious length of time, he actually loses votes.
We aren't stupid.
Yes, but liberals are. There was another thread on FR
--which I can't find, of course--from earlier today.
It said that Bush won the debates according to people
on the street--and then quoted Kerry supporters!
If you find the article, some of the Kerry Kool-Aiders
are pretty funny.
As far as the electoral college goes, it seems that Bush has it in the bag, so I think the media is intentionally trying to make it seem very close in order to create an atmosphere of intrigue and improve viewership.

You are exactly right. Just like talking to a brick...
