Suspicious, Innaccurate News - CHECK YOUR FACTS (Vanity)

At this time of year, especially in a presidential election cycle, we are all a little bit jumpy, and perhaps trigger happy to uncover *anything* that could look like a huge scandal regarding the other side. Call me paranoid, but I get the feeling that some of the sourced articles coming through may contain subtle inaccuracies and intentional deceptive facts/ideas/concepts/etc. designed with the sole purpose to get us FReepers in a tizzy. I have been doing a great deal of recon over at that site that makes you scratch your head and say "DUh?" and they are taking great pleasure in watching us go nuts over a lot of the things that fire us. They are sourcing our thread URLs and posting things like "Look what the Freepers are going off about now!" and then they all post in an almost conspirational way about how silly we look. I almost feel like it is intentional.

It has been 4 years since the battle became seriously "raw" and I am sure there are sleepers on here that have been biding their time as 'real FReepers' just waiting for this time to make us look like fools with phony news.

While reading a thread earlier, something seemed 'off' in the body of the post so I clicked on the source URL - turned out the URL info wasn't even close to the body and the body was quite inaccurate. Later, I discovered this was a thread that linked over at the DUh place.

SO, my fellow FReepers, I just wanted to throw this out there that we need to watch we are not being set up by that other side with posts and threads started simply for their entertainment value. Before you post, before you respond, double check the source. At this time, we should probably triple check.

And yes, this post was inspired by too much coffee!

" Before you post, before you respond, double check the source."

Wise words. Don't click on a connection unless you know the poster.

Any thoughts?

Not really. I got bored after about 5 sentences, so I'm gonna go find something else to do. Maybe eat some paint chips or something...

Oh, and allow me to bump this to the top for ya ;0)

That makes sense. I know I'm seeing a lot of things that I think are below the quality I am accustomed to here.

I don't care what they think, John Kerry thinks he's a war hero, and he's a looser

I am beyond caring what the other side thinks. Especially because they have proven that they don't.

Oh, come on. I'm not buying that. I know you care what they are thinking. Admit it. ;0)

I agree - but if the "news" leads to a Freep where we blast a (non)offending party with e-mails/letters/calls because of something we read on here which was false, WE look like the fools. Or if we bombard Drudge, Sean, Rush, etc. with "news" that isn't news, we look like idiots.

And I DO care about that.

No, it is not just one - it is just the last one that I read that I acknowledged in the body of my post. There are others. (But donning of a hazmat suit is required to muck 'em out!)
