Demographic Obstacle for GOP
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 10/4/04 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 10/06/2004 11:59:50 AM PDT by MarlboroRed

But the thing to me, folks, is this election shouldn't even be close right now. The reason that it is close, they're reasons that have to do with things that, you know, Karl Rove and George W. Bush really don't have all that much to say about or control over. I mean demographics -- if we can be honest here for a second -- demographics are going to make it increasingly more difficult for Republicans to win in the future if things don't change as they are now. Many people who are voting have no context. I've got story after story today of voter fraud, registration fraud in Franklin County, Ohio. There are more registered voters than the Census Bureau says are eligible. We got a story out of Tampa today in the St. Petersburg Times about how a group that was formed in the 1970s, you may have heard of them, ACORN, is out trying to register voters two and three times and they've been caught in the act. You've got the Kerry campaign demanding 6,000 lawyers at these polling places but they will not allow Republican lawyers to be sitting side by side. But one of our problems here is that some of the people voting have no context today. They're just being registered and sent out there with marching orders essentially; World War II generation is dying off. We have people here because of the open border policy. We have people who have not assimilated into our culture. The liberal propaganda resonates with many of them, at least, a large number of them, maybe a growing number of them, because of the "we'll do everything for you" propaganda that liberals are known for.

I'm not trying to be defeatist. I don't want anybody to misunderstand. I just want you to know what the obstacles are here. Before everybody starts dumping on Bush and Rove and everybody else totally, there are some things that you have to understand. We still have history taught by the left in academia. The media has been teaching history for a long time and, you know, some inroads are being made there, tremendous inroads are being made. Progress is taking place but I want to be realistic about some of the obstacles that we still face. You can't have all this history taught by the left, including the media and expect to make huge, huge inroads. This is an election, maybe the first of its kind, with such dramatic demographic changes. And these demographic changes, as long as we don't do something about immigration, are going to continue.

Bush, I hate to say this -- but I mean you know this has been one of my bugaboos since 2000 -- on the domestic side Bush has spent like a liberal. He has spent and spent and spent and spent and spent. But, his problem is he dares to defend his country. So the fact that he dares to defend his country cancels out all the so-called "good," he's doing by spending like a liberal. And I think as I look back at the debate, one little comment about it, as you look back at Bush in that first debate, the last half of that debate, first half I'm telling you was a different story than the last half. There was a big momentum shift, but you look back at the second half of that debate, I think what you saw is the new tone. Maybe even a little bit prevent defense. Don't be mean. Let's not attack, let's not make people dislike us. Let's not get people angry at us and so forth. Of course just the opposite was called for, and just the opposite was what was necessary.

So, you know, I mean one of the examples of this demographic shift I can give you, just so you'll know, I'll give you an illustration. Orange County, California. Orange County always was relied on to offset the Democrat liberal dominance of Los Angeles. But now over 50% of Orange County is minority and immigrant and most of them vote Democrat, most of the new arrivals. The point is that the Republicans, I'm looking long-term here just to give you something to think about, not just this election and not primarily this election, but long-term. The Republicans just cannot expect to keep winning if every election we have to write off California. If every election we have to write off New York, Illinois, and maybe soon Florida, if those states become states that we have to write off simply because of demographic shifts, then you can't expect to win. One of those states, some of those states, are eventually going to have to be mined and cultivated if consistent national victories are to take place.

Something inside me feels that the Hildabeast will see her democraphics & know she must come up with a big winning issue & she will go after the illegals thus a good chance of winning in 2008. She will outdo the pubbies on defense. Remember those fruitcake lib women would vote for her no matter what she says as long as their baby killings continue.

yup. see my last line of post 78. If we toss out some no star power unknown like Bill Owens as the candidate in 2008, and Hillary runs with Bill Richardson - she wins handily.

This has been a subject he has touched on very rarely. I'm glad he's beginning to bring some attention to this.

we can balkanize and not go third world. the US southwest can break away, the liberal northeast & west coast can go their own way, and the south, midwest and rocky mountain states can stick together.

We have people who have not assimilated into our culture.

They may not have, but their children are assimilating. I can offer two examples from my lunch hour yesterday. (Yes, two from a 60 minute period!)

I went to two businesses in a predominately Hispanic neighborhood during lunch. The first was to get a hair cut. My barber was watching her two nieces. The TV was on and tuned to a Spanish station. She was talking to her nieces in Spanish, except when she was teasing them about something and wanted me to be able to follow along. The children, however, were using English with one another. They were also using English with their aunt more often than Spanish. And at one point, one of the girls was being quite adamant about something she was saying. Rather than "reverting to Spanish" as one might expect if she was really more comfortable in that language, she used English.

Even more telling was something that happened later at a grocery store. As I was checking out, the cashier and the bagger were talking in Spanish about a little address book that the cashier had. (Printed in English, by the way.) She showed the bagger some stickers that were inside. The bagger mentioned something about her children liking stickers like the ones in the book. She also said that her little girl likes giving them to her. When she imitated her daughter giving her a sticker, that imitation was in English; "Here mommy, these are for you!" When she thinks of her own child, she thinks of her as speaking English.

Recent immigrants may not be assimilating, but there is more than enough hope for their kids. I've also noticed Hispanic parents in their 20s and 30s giving their kids English names rather than their Spanish equivalents.

(Me)"I don't buy the notion that the Republic party is doomed to not win a national election."

(You)I don't either. All we have to do is become more like the Democrat party, which we're doing. I can't say that I like it, though.

That's what the Republican party has been doing for over 50 years. It's nothing new.

"How does the conservative majority fight the ACLU??? They are the biggest threat to this country, because even if we try to pass laws for securing our borders, they roadblock them."

I would say by removing the incentives for illegal immigration, but realistically that is not going to happen. Our politicians have so throughly trashed the constitution over time that going back is impossible now.

Once you accept that government has a duty to provide medical care, food, shelter, etc. then the argument has already been lost. The ACLU thrives in this kind of environment.

I've had this feeling ever since the 2000 election...even if Bush wins this year, God willing, its just a matter of time before we (conservative Patriots) lose the country because of the rampant immigration, and the increasing black vote....I was shocked to hear Rush finally acknowledge this ...

The GOP has boxed themnselves in....if they adopt strict anti-immigration laws to slow the flow , then there'd be a huge shift/backlash in the Hispanic vote, along the lines of the black vote, where 90% of Hispanics would vote for the Rats....

If we do nothing, however, we'll still lose the country , albeit a little more slowly, as we are slowly but surely outnumbered at the ballot box.

No doubt it will happen. I just wonder what will be the catalyst. I read a book once that predicted war with China. With China taking the West Coast. Mexico the SW. And I forget the rest..I tihnk he predicted the only thing remaining would be the NE.

We should all understand this: together, Blacks and Hispanics comprised only 18% of the total vote in 2000. Whites were 80%, with Asians and other the remainder.

A position by the Republicans to stand tough on immigration would increase their White Vote dramatically, far offsetting any increase in Dem numbers from Blacks and Hispanics.

The political will is missing. The popular will is there.

I'm glad to see Rush leave his rah-rah, party line stance, if only temporarily, and speak the truth on immigration. Bush's unwillingness to enforce the immigration laws while this country is being swamped by an invasion of poorly educated, largely unskilled workers will one day earn Bush a place among the Presidents of least repute.

Rush misses the boat here. California will not become more important in national elections but less. It will NOT continue to grow as it has.

In addition it ignores the trend of Republican victories over the last decade.

The ONLY reason this election is close is because of the RATmedia lies spewed forth 24/7 without respite. If there was a conservative media telling the truth the RATS would be dead.

And he does not seem to be aware that the "greatest generation" is the biggest source of RAT support there is. In NO way is it conservative.

Here's another non-PC truth: The Catholic Church loves all these immigrants. The Catholic bishops are big supporters of open immigration. I heard "conservative Catholics" on a "conservative" Catholic radio station recently gloating over the news that Protestants are soon, if not now, a minority in America. Well, that's because of open immigration. It may make for a bigger Catholic church, but it's bad for the country. It risks turning America into something like the countries of central and South America, where socialism and political corruption rule. (And where the Catholic church may be strong, but freedom is weak). Sorry to be politically incorrect, but there you have it.

"Also, Bush is not a good in debates because he doesn't step on the opponent when he should.
Whether that is intentional or not, the results still usually are that nice guys finish last."

I tend to agree with you except for one thing. Bush finished first last election. Apparently nice guys do finish first sometimes.

I think Bush will probably win simply because Kerry is so unlikeable compared to Bush. I hope he wins. If he doesn't, it will be because of the war, not his likability.

Brilliant point. The Catholic Church (direct from Rome) has no choice to pander to Hispanics. Its numbers among Italians, Irish, Spanish, etc., are falling and aging. Latin and South American is the only place it's growing.
