This sad comfort we seem to take when we talk about Europe becoming Muslim is really out-of-touch. NO European country, other than France, has more than 10% of a non-native population and most much less than 5%. Compare that to the US where probably one-quarter of the population is non-native.

And the Europeans people WILL take to the streets, where we won't. They will not permit the sort of demographic changes we see. In fact, so-called Nationalist parties are scoring huge victories in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. And these sorts of victories are a calling card to the main parties that immigration will not be tolerated. No for nothing does the world refer to Europe as "Fortress Europe." Can you imagine such a thing happening here?

Finally, the developed European countries, and their business leaders, cannot support the sort of cheap labor policies our politicians and business leaders support because the trade unions won't permit it. Ultimately, the developed European countries can turn to the under-employed of East Europe for that purpose.

When Bush started spending like a liberal on education - increased the budget by 30-40% - the liberals still had to be against him and so came up with the "underfunding" line, used again by Edwards last night. So even as Bush increases funding by unprecedented amounts, he's accused of "underfunding" NCLB by 28 billion dollars, a number just pulled out of the air. This is an average of $560,000,000 per STATE - so called underfunding - yet NO ONE in the media challenged where that figure came from, what it meant, or whther it was even reasonable.

Extremely good point, the GOP doesn't groom up coming candidates in a lot of states across the nation. Look at Illinois, where the young GOP is defunct. What's worse is they abandon entire swaths of population centers, thereby not offering any alternative to the voters. Indiana is right behind Illinoi, except for Mitch Daniels, there are no other up and coming GOP candidates.

I've listened to the Rush Limbaugh Show. Maybe you missed when he spoke of it, or perhaps don't remember, but he's spoken before of how difficult it will be for a Republican to win in future based on the rising population of minorities, that the border situation was not helpful, and the Republicans should take note.

Though he's also referenced material that abortion is slowly killing off the Liberal population, and has affected the trend towards Conservatism as a result.

BTW, I am giving no opinion of what I think on this at this time. I've put it all aside until after the election, just stating Rush has spoken of this before.

The single greatest effect on this year's election will be Democratic voter fraud.

If you can videotape people entering election booths on election day...do it.

Democrat lawyers will be on hand in battleground states to persecute you.

Duh. I lost alot respect for Rush when Bush floated his amnesty plan last year. Rush called it a "principled" stand. What a load!

Help me out here, I'm not reading between the lines well.

Just who, pray tell, does this country REALLY belong to?

Too bad Bush has done absolutely nothing about illegal immigration. Americans will be a minority in this country in 15 years. that is a fact and nobody in the Republican or democratic Parties will do anything about because they want their votes and cheap labor.

With electronic voting, there will be no record of how anyone voted. Michael Fat was handing out Potato chips and french fries to anyone who would promise to vote for French Kerry and Andy Griffith.

That's the irony isn't it? The Republicans are providing the rope with which to hang themselves. Come on in third world poverty stricken potential Democrat voters. Not to mention forget the rule of law.

I'm of the opinion that there wouldn't be a Democrat party if Republicans weren't so greedy, and, indeed, out to protect the rich (at any cost). There is a kernel of truth to that stereotype protrayed by the Democrats. Of course the 'rats are all socialist/communist gun grabbers, so what can you do. This two party system is turning out to be a real loser, whereby we're enacting the worst ideas of both parties, instead of the best.

Thought you would be interested in this article.

Can we find any other reasons why thousands of new housing construction units are gobbling up the farmland?

Another so called "conservative" just like O'Reilly.

Who on this board has done more for conservatism than Rush?

It took us decades to purge the party of the KKK types but we still haven't fully recovered the trust of the black community.

Ridding the party of Buchanan was just a first step.

Buchanan is a KKK type? LOL what color was his running mate in 2004?

demographics are going to make it increasingly more difficult for Republicans to win in the future

Massive illegal immigration was bound to cause this. It is not only the republican party that is doomed, but also America itself. America will eventually balkanized and collapse much like eastern Europe or the old soviet union (and like the Roman Empire).

What most people don't realize is that the Roman Empire faced exactly the same thing the we face. Rome had its own Mexican Border-the Danube river. When thousands of uncultured, uneducated barbarians massed just on the other side of it, begging to be admitted and wanting asylum, Rome went liebral and let them in. Rome then eventually ceased to have a unified language, culture, and identity. Rome then collapsed and a thousand years of intellectual darkness followed. America has chosen to do the same as Rome, which has sealed her fate-balkanization and destruction.

America's future is bleak. Either democracy collapses and we get a dictator or we balkanize and all become third world. Many have been predicting this, sad that only now-when it is too late-that people are waking up to see the inevitable.

this is a good thread, when some freepers post that Bush may well be the last Republican who is evenly moderately conservative who can be elected president - we get trashed.

Forget about looking too far down the road - for starters, we've got to stop Hillary in 2008. And this trend, along with some others, is going to mean that a "real" conservative can't beat her.

I say again: Rudy/Rice 2008.

"Who on this board has done more for conservatism than Rush?"

Looks like Rush is selling out.

Trying to swing the election toward Kerry.

Why else would he bring this up,
less than 30 days BEFORE the election.

He's got a "know it all" attitude just like O'Reilly.

I gave them both up long ago.

I get my news here, and make up my own mind.

I don't need "spin" from anybody.

Thinking About Fernando

Reflections on the Hispanic Arrival (Fred Reed)
www.fredoneverything.net

Regarding the enormous influx of Hispanics into the United States through Mexico, a few disordered and chaotic thoughts:

To begin with, why does it get so little attention? The flow across the border is huge, 1066 by inadvertence, resembling the movement of the Germanic people into the Roman Empire in the fourth and fifth centuries. We no longer control our borders. As more Mexicans arrive, their growing political influence will ensure that we will be unable to reassert control.

When the migration has finished, the United States will be a very different place. Whether the change will be good or bad can be debated. That it is a watershed in our history cannot. Why so little discussion?

Answer: Political correctness. Unfavorable commentary on immigration is almost unpublishable.

Next, who are these new folk? What are they like?

I can give you my own anecdotal answer. I've lived in Mexico, and watch the Spanish channels on cable to keep my Spanish up. These provide a window on the Hispanic world. To my eye, Hispanics are remarkably like mainstream white Americans. They feel European, not surprising since they are Spanish in origin. Their talk shows and game shows are exactly like ours, the same soft porn and relationships. Their attitudes toward most things are similar to ours. I see no obvious reason why they should have any greater difficulty melding than did the Italians.

Unlike blacks, Hispanics are not angry at the United States. They very much want to be here. You couldn't drag them back across the border with a backhoe and a team of mules. They constantly talk about having come here to find "una vida mejor," a better life. When you've lived under the Guatemalan police, you have no doubts about the superiority of San Diego.

They want to be not just in the US, but a part of it. A standard topic for news features is that some Hispanic has made it in America, and boy are we proud. When a Hispanic singer "crosses over" (i.e. manages to become popular with Anglo audiences) the Spanish channels are no end pleased. Every Spanish-speaking actor who gets a part in a movie in Hollywood is chronicled: Hey, we're getting there. Sammy Sosa was to them evidence that they are becoming part of America.

They clearly think that they have a right to be in this country, regardless of what Anglos want, and vigorously support immigration. It isn't a rational view, and infuriates a lot of Anglos, but they hold it tightly. This is the Promised Land, where the poor and oppressed can have a better life. They have a right to come if they choose.

Don't waste your time arguing with them. You won't win.

Hispanics think politically, know they are gaining political power, and plan to use it-not against Anglos, against whom they have little, but for Hispanics. The election of Hispanic officials is very much noted. There is a political vitality to these people that one does not find in, say, blacks, with whom they see themselves as being in competition. (They don't quite say this. Over and over, though, they point out that in a few years they will be the largest ethnic minority in the nation.)

The Hispanic-black competition may heat up. Already around Washington blacks are angry that Hispanics are taking what blacks regard as their jobs. The Hispanics are going to win this one. People who hire uneducated labor routinely tell me that they prefer Hispanics because they show up on time, don't call in sick or simply not appear, don't have bad attitudes, and work like dogs. Guess who they hire?

Hispanics do not want to be linguistically isolated, do not want to turn the United States into a nation divided by language. The Spanish channels groan under the weight of commercials for instruction in English. In the typical ad, Jose gets turned down for a job or a date with an Anglo lovely because he can't speak English. After going to the school being advertised, he has a job in a bank. They are not enthusiastic about bilingual education. The activists are, but people interviewed in the street invariably say they want their kids to learn English, right now if not sooner.

Spanish, not English, is the endangered language. On talk shows in Spanish, such as "Christina" out of Miami, younger guests often have to ask how to say something in Spanish. A joke in English gets a laugh from the audience. When they drop in English words, which they often do, the accent is usually perfect: English is their primary language, or at least equal to Spanish. Believe it or not, several times I've heard Hispanics arguing for bilingual education so that their kids will learn Spanish, which many are forgetting.

As a police reporter, one of my other guises, I see a lot of Hispanics. Here the picture differs a bit from the view on television. The elder Hispanics are friendly, courteous to the police, and do not engage in serious crime. You can find exceptions, but the foregoing is the rule. They tend to drink hard, however, and account for a high proportion of drunk drivers-and I mean drunk sometimes to the point of bouncing from curb to curb. Friends at detox centers talk of seeing blood-alcohol concentrations that would pickle most people.

More ominous, the kids do not seem to be academically ambitious or inclined to work hard. They drop out of school, don't show much interest while they are still in, and, at least around Washington, join suburban gangs. These are not hardcore gangs like the Latin Kings in Chicago, but they aren't good either. If Hispanics are not going to become at least partly stuck in the lower rungs of society, they had better get over the lack of interest in school. No promises there.

The overall prognosis? For what it's worth, my take is that they'll make it. The road may be rocky at times, but they'll get there. I think. The odd cultural barrier that exists between blacks and whites does not exist between Anglos and Hispanics. They'll move up, fit in, mix. (Leave the latter to young Anglo guys.)

I'd better be right, because they're not leaving.
