He's starting to sound like Black Adder's Baldrick, "I have a cunning plan. So cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel."
This debate ought to be called "Slaughter at Case Western".
Jim Geraghty of Kerry spot says this was the most "devastating drubbing" since Bentsen smacked down Quayle.
chris is interviewing Joe Lockhart right now and he is pissed that his man lost...but he won't admit it of course!
Kerry/Edwards program calls for the education people to tap into the National Budget....
That would be a huge mistake!!!!
Come on bud, didn't you see the dozens of requests to NOT post pics? We can't even view posts now, and I have a cable modem.
"Cheney looked arrogant, looked tired, stumbled, looked upset..." Both Bush and Cheney looked liked angry young men...I was aghast and shocked!"
McAuliffe sounds like a man crying to keep his job. LoL!
Thanks for the compliment! :)
I did not see all of it, but I think that Cheney carried it. I thought that Edwards looks a little bit like a court jester (that grin! yikes!)- he was too informal and although Mort Kondrake is now saying that Cheney sounded "old", I think it has to do with intelligence and seriousness. This is not a laughing matter and I think that Edwards laughing and looking like a goof when he made the mistakes about mentioning John Kerry's name in that one question did not put him in a good light. I don't want a goofball a "heartbeat away."
Cheney might be dry, but he's extremely smart and I think that came across tonight- Edwards looked like a smarmy trial lawyer, talking around the questions.
We are post 9/11. Pretty boys are no longer going to be able to enamor soccer moms that have turned into security moms. Who is going to hunt down the terrorists and kick their A? Not goofball boy.
And I'd still like to know how Edwards pulled out a Cleveland statistic out of nowhere.
I wish George Bush could debate like him!
CHENEY THROWS DOWN THE GAUNTLET: "With respect with the cost -- it wasn't $200 billion. You probably weren't there to vote for that... You're not credible on Iraq because of the enormous inconsistencies of John Kerry and you have had on Iraq."
# EDWARDS REBUTTAL: "The American people saw John Kerry on Thursday night. The American people don't need them to have the President or Vice President tell them what John Kerry is."
# CHENEY RESPONSE: "Your rhetoric would be more credible if there was something to back it up."
# MORE CHENEY: "If they couldn't stand up to pressures that Howard Dean raises, how can we expect them to face al Qaeda?"
# EDWARDS HITS BACK: "A long resume does not equal good judgment. We've seen over and over and over the misjudgments of this Administration"
FIRST HALLIBURTON REFERENCE: 9:25...
# EDWARDS COMPARES HALLIBURTON TO ENRON
# CHENEY REBUTTAL: "The reason they want to attack Halliburton because they want to obscure their record. And frankly Senator your Senate record is not that distinguished... Your hometown newspaper has taken to call you 'Senator Gone.' I'm the President of the Senate... the first time I've ever met you is on this stage tonight."
GWEN IFILL THROWS DOWN THE GAUNTLET:
# CHENEY: "My response will take more than 30 seconds."
# GWEN IFILL: "Well that's all you've got."
# IFILL ON EDWARDS: "I asked him about Israel even though he didn't talk about it much."
FACT CHECK: CHENEY WRONG ABOUT CLAIM HE HAS NOT LINKED SADDAM HUSSEIN AND 9/11
# CHENEY ON 9/11 PILOT MOHAMMED ATTA ON 12/6/01: "...It's been pretty well confirmed that he did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April..."
# 9/11 COMMISSION says that the available evidence does not support the original Czech report of such a meeting. (9/11 Commission report)
FACT CHECK: EDWARDS WRONG ABOUT $200 BILLION COST OF IRAQ
# EDWARDS DURING DEBATE: "The first Gulf War cost America $5 billion, we are at $200 billion and counting."
# GAO ANALYSIS reports Iraq war has cost $120 - $130 billion... Congress has appropriated an extra $25 billion, but only few billion of that has been spent...
FACT CHECK: EDWARDS WRONG ABOUT BODY ARMOR
EDWARDS DURING DEBATE: "They sent 40,000 American troops into Iraq without the body armor they need."
# GENERAL PETER PACE says 40,000 troops did have armor, just not Interceptor body armor -- new bullet-proof vests that stop bullets at close range...
CHENEY SAYS STATES SHOULD DECIDE SAME SEX MARRIAGE: "The fact is that the President felt that it was important to make it clear that that's the wrong way to go. He sets policy for the Administration and I support him."
# EDWARDS LAUDS CHENEY, REFERENCES MARY CHENEY: "&but we should not use the Constitution to divide this country."
EDWARDS HITS CHENEY OVER DOMESTIC POLICIES: "Mr. Vice President I don't think the American people can take 4 more years of that experience."
FIRST QUESTION REFERS TO PAUL BREMER STATEMENTS:
# CHENEY: "It's important to look at our in Iraq in the context of the global war on terror... [Saddam Hussein] had an established relationship with al Qaeda... What we did in Iraq is exactly the right course of action."
# EDWARDS REBUTTAL: "Mr. Vice President, you are still not being straight with the American people."
# CHENEY RESPONSE: "The notion of additional troops is talked about frequently... I'm confident that we'll get the job done."
# EDWARDS RESPONSE: "There are no connection between the attacks of Sept. 11 and Saddam Hussein."
QUESTION TO EDWARDS: WOULD SADDAM STILL BE IN POWER IF YOU AND KERRY WERE IN WHITE HOUSE?
# EDWARDS: "It needed to be done the right way. We didn't need to take our eye off the ball, which was on Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden..."
# OOPS: "They gave the responsibility of killing Saddam Hussein -- er, Osama bin Laden -- to Afghan warlords."
# CHENEY REBUTTAL: "I have not suggested there was a connection between Iraq and 9/11. But there is a direct connection between Iraq and terror..."
# CHENEY HITS KERRY, EDWARDS: "They are not prepared to deal with states responsible for terror... We heard Sen. Kerry say the other night that there ought to be a global test... A little tough talk... as part of a presidential debate does not make up for being on the wrong side of defense for 30 years..."
CHENEY AND EDWARDS DIFFER OVER AFGHANISTAN:
# EDWARDS: "Not only are they providing 75 percent of the world's opium, large-cut parts of the country are under the control of drug lords and warlords. Big parts of the country are still insecure."
# CHENEY: "The power of that concept is enormous. And it will apply in Afghanistan, and it will apply as well in Iraq."
MSNBC saying that Edwards won the debate? Were they even watching it? Cheney cleaned Edwards clock.
Do we have her email???
Yea just heard on msnbc that edwards had a grand slam? wonder which debate they were watching
Probably his Senate pin.
Good Lord, Man! You are pathetic! To wish this on your country for your own selfish and pathetic reasons is reprehensible!
You do not deserve to call yourself an American!
Cheney crushed Edwards. The DU is going to be having fits. Kerry's voting record is now on the table.
Gwen did a great job, and was fair. She did give Kerry 30 seconds she shouldn't have, but that was obviously a mistake. Lehrer was terrible as a Moderator, totally biased questionsed. Gwen's were balanced.
>>If Bush wins, the dems will have succeeded in cripling his next term. In a way, I hope Kerry wins because it will be open season on dimocrats. He will be on the defensive from day one, provided the RNC will have the cajones to give them a taste of their own medicine.<<
I sincerely hope you do not get your wish. If Kerry wins, look forward to a future of a "saddam" with all his buddies and "sons" etc. skimming off whatever is left of civilization while slaughtering, raping, etc. to the eventual destruction of the very thin veneer that constitutes what we understand to be "civilization".
Congrats to the VP!! Nice job to stick it to Shampoo boy and not fall for that disgraceful Halliburton baiting.
