KERRY DEBATE ACTIONS BEING SEVERELY MISIDENTIFIED, EVEN AT FOX; ACTION NEEDED
Various | October 4, 2004 | MississippiMan

The issue of what Kerry brought with him to the podium is not a petty one. A candidate who had simply a list of talking points on paper would be at a huge advantage vs. the other participant who played by the rules.

Based on the most recent reports here, it sounds as if even Fox News is about to forget and drop the issue, since they've declared that they're 99% certain the object in question is a pen.

It's hard to fathom what's going on here, unless they're viewing an incomplete clip of what took place. For even the low-resolution copies of the event that are posted online make it blatantly clear that, yes, he had a PEN (OBJECT 1) in his RIGHT hand, but he also removed a LIGHT-COLORED RECTANGULAR OBJECT (OBJECT 2) from inside his jacket with his LEFT hand. He then handles the object in a fashion that suggests UNFOLDING, and places it on the deck of the podium.

As mentioned already, I am a digital forensics examiner. I have a state-of-the-art forensic video system. I have briefly examined the low-resolution clips of the event, and at first impression, OBJECT 2 appears to be a folded sheet or sheets of light-colored paper. It is DEFINITELY rectangular. It is DEFINITELY light-colored. And it is DEFINITELY distinct and separate from OBJECT 1.

I would very much like to examine a high-resolution version of the clip; ideally this will be an uncompressed digital video file digitized from a digital broadcast master. If anyone has any connections or access to one of the networks or C-SPAN or whatever, and can obtain said file, it would be immensely helpful.

This is about playing by the rules, folks. I for one am sick and tired of sitting back and watching the rules broken without consequence. It is high time to hold people accountable. That applies to the candidates and the media, whether the media member in question is CBS or Fox News Channel. If it's wrong, it's wrong. And if they're reporting that Kerry brought nothing but a pen to the podium, THEY'RE WRONG.

Nope! They only need to know that he brought SOMETHING, ANYTHING with him. The rules clearly stipulated that the only things to be used were those that had been provided and were on the podium awaiting them. They even could provide the "favorite pen" or whatever. But the committee had to place it/them on the podium for the debaters.

just called the commission on presidential deabates.

You do know that the commission is a joint corporation owned by the DNC and RNC? Do you really think they are going to do anything? The RNC doesn't seem to care and obviously the DNC isn't going to do anything.

I also agree with you! I taped the debate and was watching the Fox News coverage of the debate. I watched the beginning again, and it is clear that Kerry removed a piece of paper and unfolded it as he placed it on the podium. I also believe that President Bush saw Kerry do it!
I have emailed everyone I watch on Fox News, and voiced my concern with them "letting this go" as "just a black pen" when it was white paper...NOT a black pen!

My Letter to Fox & Friends:

4-OCTOBER-2004

Dear Fox & Friends,

We love your show, but we were really disappointed this morning (4-OCT-2004) when E.D. Hill brushed off the "Cheating Kerry" story as "Nothing" with no further thought. She said it was Kerry merely pulling a Black Pen from His pocket, without noting that that also would have been cheating.

My wife and I, along with many other viewers and Bloggers have repeatedly viewed the tape which is currently available at Drudge. There is no doubt in my mind about Kerry Cheating on the National Presidential Election TV Debate #1. John F. Kerry is visibly removing a paper with his left hand from his inside coat pocket, unfolding it, and smoothing it on the podium. He then begins to immediately write or act like he is writing on the paper, even before the first question is asked or the first statement is made.

This action by Kerry is a clear indicator of his Character or lack thereof. It clearly put President Bush at a disadvantage as Kerry rattled off details that he was reading. A cadet at the Air Force Academy would rightly be expelled and, in fact, has been expelled for cheating on an exam. A candidate for College entrance would get booted for cheating on the ACT or the SAT tests. Likewise, a Cheater on the Presidential Election Debates must be held accountable for his deeds.

Sincerely yours,

RamingtonStall

Go to LittleGreenFootballs. I think he has some high rez.

It doesn't appear to be very high resolution, unless this is an _extreme_ enlargement. I'd like to see some 4+ Megapixel frames of this.

Even to admit Kerry pulled something out of his coat pocket to place on the podium is an admission he broke the rules of the debate!

I think Kerry is a dishonest creep but we should drop this it's a non-starter. We should use our energy toward more productive areas. Call a friend or relative that is on the fence and get him out to vote for W! That is better than persuing this windmill.

And, you're welcome to do just that, instead of wasting time in this thread.

He then handles the object in a fashion that suggests UNFOLDING, and places it on the deck of the podium.

He absolutely did not handle it in a way that suggests unfolding. He handled it in a way that suggests getting the edges of a pack or deck of cards aligned horizontally with a final tap by the index finger of his right hand on the top to get things aligned vertically just before setting it down on the desk.

I haven't been following the "what did Kerry take out of his pocket" threads so I'm a little behind and trying to catch up. A couple of questions:

Does anyone have access to a clean standard NTSC tape of the debate or are we all looking at a compressed Real Audio piece of junk?

By any chance did one of the networks broadcast in High Definition? If so the resolution would be much better and you might be able to blow it up and actually see what is going on.

Just my $.02.

It's still only SD 480i, but it is not compressed.

For those of us not "in-the-know", what is "SD 480i"? I'm a still-camera kind of guy - I deal in megapixels. I know that if I took a still image of lurch when he was pulling the paper/card from his pocket, it would be obvious.

If FOX plays the good video....like that on little green footballs......we should then pressure the other networks to follow suit. It is only fair that the general public be made aware of what he did.

If Fox does not play the good video......we need to pressure them to do so.

From your #140 post regarding 99% sure that its a "black pen", does not fit with the photos, I have seen that have been enlarged.

So if what Fox has shows a "black pen", then somebody has been playing with the photos to show an item in JFKerry's left hand that is in no way, shape, fashion, or form is a "black pen".

I would call FOX rather than e-mailing them and offer to purchase all available video evidence of the debate. Ask their price and come back. I'm sure we can get the money together.

You pinged me on another thread, but I'll answer you here.

What I see is Kerry's left hand removing from his right inside jacket pocket a white object with a hard flat edge. It could be a square or a rectangle. He takes that object and lays it on the lectern and does things with it.

I think that he is taking index cards out and spreading them out so that he can see and use several at one time JUST LIKE YOU DO WHEN YOU DEBATE or do similar type of speaking.

I can sometimes see the hand, the cuff, and/or the jacket sleeve. There is no way that this object which is being hand by the hand and is at the fingertips could be a cuff. There is no way that he is moving his cuff around on the lectern.

Thanks for giving me the oppostunity to better describe what I see.
