XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN OCT 03, 2004 14:05:38 ET XXXXX
DEBATE MYSTERY: DID KERRY HAVE CHEAT SHEET?
Section 5, pages 4-5 of the binding "Memorandum of Understanding" that was negotiated and agreed upon by both political campaigns states:
"No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate.... Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium..."
So what did Dem presidential contender John Kerry take out of his jacket as he approached the stage [with his back to the auditorium's audience]?
What did Kerry place on the podium?
Video replays of the Kerry maneuver played all weekend long on the internet.
[A tight zoom of the Boston.Com feed shows Kerry pulling a mysterious "card" from his jacket. 14 seconds into video, after commerical]
A top Kerry campaign source explained to the DRUDGE REPORT late Sunday how Bush supporters were once again trying to distract.
"Kerry did not cheat," said the Kerry insider. "This is more lies from Republicans, who are hoping for a quick change of subject away from the president's performance, and the new polls."
Developing...
The consensus around my home is it was 5 to ten minutes into the debate. I don't think you'll see the card as clearly as the action. So, I suggest scanning for the action of Kerry rotating a card from front to back.
The photo on Drudge is very funny and has been posted on here several times oer the last several days.
See #1142. I was going to say, "yeah, this is a pocket protector or pen case", but it seems that Kerry had a pen in his right hand before he ever reached and pulled anything out with his left hand. So Kerry's campaign is telling the truth, he did bring a pen to the platform. But that was not all he brought there. :o)
Kerry used a white pen.
do you have a link??
Me too.
NY POST: DEM FLASHED 'WRITE' STUFF AT DEBATE
But the mystery was solved when The Post reviewed a Fox News Channel feed from Thursday's debate: Kerry pulled out . . . a black pen.
THEN POST THE D@*% VIDEO SO WE CAN MAKE UP OUR OWN MINDS !!!
If it was a pen, he would have pulled it out vertically and there would be no horizontal white looking item..
Thanks! Interesting that NOW they admit having a "pen"....riiiiiiight!
First it will be that they had nothing, then a pen, then a hanky, then blank notecards....
you are probably right....and at each step of the way, the spin will be "What's the big deal, it was only a (insert mysteriously morphing object here)???"
I anxiously await their next denial. BWAAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAA!!
Priceless!!!
;@ a crock. It looked like he was carrying something, perhaps a pen, in his right hand when he was behind the lectern, at the same time he was reaching into his coat with his left hand. Whatever it was he took out was light in color and--after turning to the lecturn--required the use of both hands to pick it up, handle the sides as though getting a stack of cards together, and then tap the top of the stack with one index finger before setting it down. This is visible in the higher res full screen version available at little green footballs or whatever the site is called. And I think that people should look at the rolling footage, not frame by frame. You can't see actions in frame-by-frame and we're all familiar with what certain actions look like.
Near the end of the hi res video, Kerry can clearly be seen uncapping a pen, and putting the cap on the opposite end. However, he spent about 2 to 3 seconds manipulating whatever came out of his pocket(s) before you see him uncap the pen.
I just sent a nice letter to the NYPost-
cshaw@nypost.com
There is nothing is his hand at that point. That's just clasped hands.
BahBlahbah- you're in denial.
Look at the video that the stills posted all over this thread were made from. I tell you, BBB, if *Bush* cheated at the debate, I would not stick my head in the ground the way you are doing. I would demand he make it up in some substantial way to his opponent.
It was permissible to take notes *during* the debate. It was against the rules to bring notes.
