Presidential Candidate section of the Michigan Absentee ballot (UPDATE: No hoax, small exposure

I'm posting this because I feel it should be seen, and because I know many people here are going to vote absentee for this upcoming election.

Here is a picture of Presidential Candidate section of the Michigan Absentee ballot, and if you take a look, you might notice something VERY wrong.

>

Now, if you look at that, notice how the arrows on the presidential candidates are not aligned....an arrow is left over at the end (pointing to the "Congressional" header), and Bush's name has no arrow. It would appear that the arrows are misaligned by having been moved too far downward.

Provided that you vote for the first arrow (next to Kerry), could this potentially mean that, because the arrows seem to be moved downward, that the arrow next to Kerry's name would actually be a vote for Bush? That someone who doesn't notice this and votes for Kerry would have their vote counted for Bush/Cheney?

To anyone else who has gotten an absentee ballot, is yours the same? Because if it is, this is very serious, and needs to be reported to the County Clerk's/whatever office. Just though I'd share.

I can only imaging the national scandal this would cause, that is if it was sKerry/Edwards with no arrows.

Since these things are electronically scanned and the arrows are for the benefit of (morons) the user...does it really matter?

DAILYKOS.COM is a sKerry-kissing, Soros-loving, anti-Bush screed site.

PLEASE don't take anything from there at face value!

no, florida had a butterfly ballot from what I can recall... if this was from florida than it is more damaging because it proves that in 2000 the dems left bush off.

but like i said, theirs was a butterfly ballot

Optical mark systems almost always use printed markings on the paper as a positional reference; the arrows almost certainly serve not only as a marker for the user, but for the scanner as well. I would expect that a ballot with a "Kerry" mark would scan for Bush, one for Cobb would scan for Kerry, etc. A ballot marked for Bush would get kicked out as invalid.

Incredible mess.

That's not a bug, it's a feature.

so are you saying the democrats wanted to help kerry by taking bush off but may have wound up helping bush? because more people would vote for kerry than the third guy.

I have a question for the Michigan people: What happens to the bad ballots? Will they all be thrown out? What about those that were already sent in as "completed"? Will those people's ballots be voided and required to be re-cast? What kind of idiots do these states employ, that would allow such mistakes be made, without proof-reading?

I didn't catch this on my ballot. However, if you vote straight ticket, there is not problem. There is an arrow next to the party that you may want to choose...

my question is....what if, on Election Day, the ballots are the same.

How will people vote/react in the booth?

IF that happens, no matter the state, city or county, we should go DIRECTLY to the news and web with it. It's the tangible proof that they want to avoid, but can't.

I fear it'll happen with our military ballots and our troops won't be able to do a thing about it.

When I started reading this thread, I thought it was going to be statewide. So it's really just 69 ballots in the Alma area? My son who goes to school in Marquette is supposed to receive an absentee ballot. It better not look like this! (Sigh)
