Staffers at the Kerry campaign may want to put the cork back in their champagne bottles after they examine the internal numbers in the latest Gallup poll.
Sure, most felt that the Massachusetts Democrat was the better debater by a whopping margin of 53 to 37 percent.
Kerry did even better when Gallup asked which candidate expressed himself clearly, beating Bush 60 to 32 percent.
But when asked which of the two was more believable, it was Bush over Kerry - 50 to 45 percent.
On which candidate did better on the issues, again it was Bush over Kerry, 49 to 46 percent.
Those surveyed by Gallup also apparently didn't buy the media's line that the president came off as irritated and petulant. Asked who was more likable, it was Bush over Kerry again, 48 to 41 percent.
But the worst news for team Kerry came when Gallup asked which candidate was tough enough to be president, a question that taps into concerns that Kerry may be weak on terror.
Gallup respondents gave the "tough enough" award to Bush - and by a landslide, 54 to 37 percent.

Works for me !! :^D
I agree, there is nothing that can take the starch out of one like a combination of heat and humidity. I think the President was exhausted.
D'OH!
That's a shame! Especially since there are no more debates on foreign policy and since there won't be any more opps for Kerry to tell more lies to America about Iraq and the war and on terrorism.
Looks like Purple Heart boy's gonna be a little blue after the election.
Thanks for the ping!
ok. I want Bush to win as much as anyone. But there is one thing that I see happening and it does disturb me. While Bush is still trying to correct the lies kerry told Thursday, Kerry is out already setting the stage for the next debate on the economy. Maybe Bush should forget about debate #1 and head into debate #2. What does everyone else think? It seems like kerry has Bush on the defensive allright while he heads into the sunset.
End of discussion!
I just got back on FR late tonight and this is one of only two replies I'm gonna do tonight.
"Kerry is a great debater - Bush is a great President" - BUMP.
~also~
John Kerry was debating to win an election. George Bush was debating to win a war. And herein lies the sum of differences between the two.

CAUTION: You might want to bring your shades...the light of truth may burn your eyes.
BUMP! :^D
Somebody posted something on the Yahoo site regarding having seen Kerry turn slightly as he entered the stage, take something out of his pocket, unfold it, and slip it onto the podium. It's on the CSPAN video, at the 2:07 frame. However, the Freeper (whose name I don't know, since the Yahoo groups names are different) wasn't sure about it.
The candidates were not supposed to bring anything; even their pens were supplied to them by the moderator. Bush apparently just walked in and sat down, but Kerry lingered, and the Freeper thought it looked as if he was slipping notes onto his podium. Has anybody else seen anything about this?
You make ther popcorn - extra butter for me - and I'll bring the cold ones!
BTTT!!!!!!!
BTTT!!!!!!!
In essence he's campaigning for Complainer in Chief (and he's pretty good at that!)
Livius has a question on Kerry's modus operandi at the debate lectern.
I have not heard anything. Sorry.
