The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all FReepers and lurkers in good standing to join us this Saturday outside Arlington National Cemetery as we stand up for America and our troops against the anti-American left.
With one month to go before the election, the left is digging out the John Kerry Vietnam protest playbook by debasing the sacred ground that honors Americans who sacrificed everything to keep this country free while liberating millions of people around the world from tyranny.
They will be holding a rally starting at noon in front of the Women's Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. At 1 p.m., they will march down Memorial Avenue carrying 104 "coffins" and take them to the White House.
We will be standing along Memorial Avenue to peacefully counter their ghoulish protest.
BillF picked up a post from a leftist site that describes their plans. I'm re-posting it here so you'll know what to expect:
Below from DC IndyMedia with some portions removed.
Although planning for the event has been underway for 6 months, the offer of $9,000 from an anonymous donor for flag draped coffins has somewhat shifted to focus of the procession and its planning.
The offer was made with the expectation that the coffins would be draped with US flags and placed on the Ellipse. Organizers for the Memorial Procession were opposed to the idea of displaying 1,000 coffins draped with American flags because the image would fail to convey the staggering loss of Iraqi lives which outnumber American casualties by more than ten to one. We struck a compromise amenable to our donor and everyone involved. We agreed to a mix of 1,100 coffins for the Procession, 1,000 draped in black shrouds and 100 covered with US flags. To satisfy our donor, a second event is being organized, The Iraq War Memorial on the grounds of the Lincoln Memorial, set for Saturday October 23. The Iraq War Memorial, planned for the week before the election, will display more than 1,000 U.S. flag draped coffins, one for each American soldier killed. The event is orchestrated solely as a photo opportunity. There will be no program associated with the Iraq War Memorial.
The Memorial Procession on October 2 will actually feature a total of 1,104 coffins. One child's coffin and three regular size coffins will lead the procession from the Womens Memorial at Arlington Cemetery, followed by 100 black-covered coffins. The three coffins will be draped with an Iraqi flag, a US flag and a world flag. The somber event at Arlington will commence at noon and feature brief messages by various religious leaders and family members of those slain. The procession will proceed across the Memorial Bridge with pallbearers carrying the 104 coffins. The permitted route proceeds around the Lincoln Memorial, along Constitution Ave. to the Ellipse.
Activists with the group One Thousand Coffins are manufacturing the coffins. These are the same folks who were responsible for the powerful procession of flag draped coffins in New York on August 29. The coffins are made of corrugated cardboard and measure 56 by 2 by 16 when fully constructed. 1,000 flattened cardboard sheets will arrive at the Ellipse at 8 am on Saturday morning, October 2, requiring the labor of approximately 60 volunteers to construct and place.
[snip]
The program at the Ellipse will feature Arun Gandhi, Celeste Zappala, Anas Shallal, Ann Wright, Michael Berg, Lila Lipscomb, family members of the war dead and final remarks by Rev. Graylan Hagler.
Our plans to counter the left:
What: Support America, our troops and their mission in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere fighting the war on terrorists.
When: Saturday, October 2, 2004, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (at the latest)
Where: The sidewalk along Memorial Avenue, just outside Arlington Cemetery.
Metro: Take the Blue Line on the Metro to the Arlington Cemetery station. The exit puts you right where we'll be set up.
Parking: A pay parking lot is available just off Memorial Avenue. Access from the George Washington Parkway North or South, Rte. 110 North from Crystal City, or Memorial Bridge from D.C.
Purpose: To peacefully counter-demonstrate against the anti-American leftists who are using our fallen warriors to demoralize the American people and our soldiers while giving aid and comfort to our enemies.
Bring: American, Gadsden and service flags (Large and small). Signs bearing messages of support for our troops and their mission in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere fighting the war on terrorists, as well as signs criticizing the left for their ghoulish use of Arlington and our fallen warriors.
This is a permitted demonstration.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for protesting will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no racism, no profanity, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
EAGLES UP !!!
GREAT JOB, Kristinn! Loved the thread and photos of your cBS protest!!!! You guys are the BEST!
D.C. Chapter mega ping!
Awwwwwwww! What a darn shame. I can't attend.
Thanks, buffy. No pajamas at this one, though.
Who knew that one dead son could get you all this valuable publicity?
Michael Berg, marketing genius.
Michael Berg's a communist who has despicably used his son's murder as his moment in the sun to help the 'revolution.'
Count me in!! There were some great sign ideas on the other thread I might be stealing!
That's exactly what this is. Thank you for trying to peacefully stand against this.
"The three coffins will be draped with an Iraqi flag, a US flag and a world flag."
What's a 'world flag'?
Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make it, as I have some stuff planned that day involving local efforts to re-elect the President. Good luck though! Keep the pings coming, I'm sure one of these days I'll be able to make one of these things. hehe
bttt
Any flag with a hammer and sickle on it?
See you there!
I understand. Alot of people are already committed to helping campaigns on the weekends with the elections so close.
major bump~
See ya Saturday!
Loved the FReep of the coffin protest in N.Y. during the RNC. Something to the effect of: 'So glad to see you were protesting OBL and the terrorist attacks on the WTC......Oh, I forgot, YOU NEVER PROTESTED BIN LADEN!'
(Or something to that effect. Awesome.)
Now they'll place a 'world flag' on one of the coffins? What's the point of that? It seems to me that the jihadi's are the enemy of the world--
Please be careful at Arlington National Cemetary this Saturday. We know these 'peace protesters' are quite unstable and can be violent.
Oh, and we'll expect a full FReep report with pictures.
Thanks again for all your efforts.
