Consumer Team Report
Mystic Tan (WWLP; June 4, 2002) Is it possible to get a perfect tan in seconds, without the harmful effects of the sun? This Consumer team report tells us of the results of the 22News Consumer Team test of the "Mystic Tan" technique.
Makers of 'Mystic Tan' say it applies a sunless tan safely, quickly, evenly... and in only 28 seconds. But we wanted to see for ourselves. Is it possible to get a UV free tan in seconds? With the push of a button, a fine mist of Aloe Vera, an instant bronzer, and a chemical called DHA are sprayed from nozzles onto your skin.
We wanted to know, is this stuff safe? Springfield dermatologist Dr. Stanley Glazer says, yes. He says the active chemical... DHA or Di-Hydroxy Acetone is what's found in most over-the- counter self-tanners. When it's applied to the skin it causes it to darken, like a stain. Dr. Glazer: They darken the most superficial layer of the skin called the Stratum-Corneum. They're quite effective. They're very safe. There's a rare instance of people being sensitive or allergic to them, but it's quite uncommon.
So what's the difference between 'Mystic Tan' and the kind you find in a bottle? Liz Piponidis: It does go on streak-free so I like it a lot better than self-tanners.
Owner of East Longmeadow's Island Tanning, Todd Witwer explained that users should wear nylon foot coverings, a hair cap and barrier cream on their hands. Todd Witwer: It will mist you for 14 seconds on the front, turn around it'll mist you for 14 seconds on the back, then you get out, towel dry and about 6 hours later you're totally tan.
But we wanted to check it out for ourselves... all at the expense of a potentially great tan. I gave mystic tan a run for its money... and ended up with a noticeable tan. And speaking of money, one of these sessions costs about $25... but Witwer says, compare that to a tanning bed, or the natural sun... both unhealthy and potentially dangerous to your skin. Todd Witwer: It usually takes about 5 to 7 sessions to get a tan. With this it takes 1 session, the next day you've got a tan. We're trying to discourage tanning, but if people want the color, this is certainly a reasonable alternative I think.
It has been 6 days since my Mystic Tan session and the color started to fade about a day ago. So Mystic Tan lives up to its claims. One Consumer Team observation; wearing the nylon footwear can cause a tan line there. So users may want to use barrier cream on the soles of their feet and toenails. And on a sidenote, Mystic Tan should not be used to create a base-tan before going in the sun. It will not protect you from sunburn.
Where, of course CGEB = classygreen.....
Oh, okay I get it =correction. I am learning, just not fast enough. Have mercy. Anyway, my husband can vouch I do have green eyes, I am classy and well now I have darker hair streaked with blonde and GOD bless me I am a conservative. I have lurked here since Drudge pushed the enter button on Lewinsky and made history. I have found my photo but don't know how to get it posted. Thanks for xplaining things to me. I can reassure dennisw, thats not me.
I also love that ivory look. Too busy to get toasted and bad for you anyway.
Well done. Welcome to FreeRepublic....hope you enjoy FR as much as lots of us have over the years. ;o)
You need to first find someone to host your picture, though, you can't link it to your hard drive. It must first be on the web somewhere like villagephotos.com.
Were you being catty? Or are you just having fun picking on a greenhorn?
I haven't purposely tanned in more than 19 years. I use a moisturizer that has SPF15, and when I know I'm going to be outside and in the direct sunlight for any period of time (like when I used to cover football and baseball), I skip the moisturizer and just wear a sunscreen with SPF30.
Embrace and enjoy your fair skin! :)
Yes, and ping me too... :-)
Oh no, actually neither. I just didn't want to seem like someone breathing heavily on their screen awaiting FR Swimsuit Edition. :) And if you already know how to post pics, my apologies for going overboard...
Huh???
I went to Villagephotos and did the sign in but the photo would not download, it was too large. I tried the maximum decompression, didn't work. I have lots to learn.
Well for two days since I am a newbie I guess people are curious about me, getting comments like have to post a photo and come to initiations and what not. I said let me just get my personal stuff posted and then I can get going with freeping. Have lurked for years finally got tired of seeing everyone else have all the fun.
No, none of this is required, although definitely not discouraged.
I think LisaMalia was confused and thinking you addressed her in your post when you said, "Lisa..."
Ohhhhh, you are so sweet for clearing that up and staying with this for so long. I appreciate it. This is lots of fun. I just love conversing with like-minded people. So many people are ignorant about things that seem so important to me. It's frustrating and having others to talk to about those things is cathartic.
Wow, Kerry was in Vietnam. Look, He has Agent Orange....Face. Ha Ha Ha!!!!
Lets hope this crap on his face lasts till thursday. better still if they try to cover it with something.
What a complete friggin dork!!!!
Too, too funny. That explains it. I didn't even know Kerry was in Vietnam until yesterday. Awwwwww mannnnnnn.
Looks like this thread is becoming a boring chat room. G'nite
If he only had a brain....
