CLINTONS SHUTTING UP, QUIETLY UNDERMINING KERRY

Clintons Shutting Up, Quietly Undermining Kerry Written by Chris Long Tuesday, September 28, 2004 http://www.chronwatch.com/content/contentDisplay.asp?aid=10015

The problem with a Kerry presidency for the Clintons is the possibility that Kerry may preside over a strengthening economy not of his making and spark international chaos by giving terrorist groups a breather by waffling in what is, in reality, World War III.

Either way, the Clintons lose. A good economy coupled with a Kerry presidency gets him re-elected; chumming with the French and Germans and undermining the War on Terror gets Kerry un-elected, replaced by Republican Colin Powell who now has foreign policy experience and a distinguished military portfolio. General Powell would be the ideal Republican candidate for a public wanting leadership in the wake of a rudderless Kerry tenure. That leaves the Clintons out yet again.

Hillary's pathology to become president far, far outstrips Kerry's; in a war of wits with Hillary, Kerry is unarmed and vying for victim status. And the Clintons are smiling to Kerry's face while planting the political knife firmly in his back.

Why the unvarnished obsession of the Clintons to regain power? It comes down to one issue: discredited Arkansas bumpkins trying to crash the aristocratic cotillion. Nothing angers the Clintons more than the legacy of scandals that marked their White House years. What comes in the future is a pathological obsession to redeem their failed presidency because, like the suitor who has been rejected by the damsel and has taken to stalking, there is, somehow, always another chance for the deluded.

Never mind that chance may be no more likely than (Rather-ism here) a tick draining a cow's blood to the point of anemia. The obsessed stalker is always willing to take that chance, seeing himself riding off into the sunset with the object of his affection that has finally realized life would be insufferable without him.

What the Clintons know that drives them up the wall and keeps their ''marriage'' together is that, privately, even liberals sneer at their philandering, money-grubbing ways and consider them upstarts from Arkansas who have damaged the Democratic Party immeasurably. Those same liberals are also privately alarmed at incidents like the last-minute sale of pardons, Chinese political contributions (which were illegal), the sale of U.S. missile technology to potential enemies, and the utter lack of Bill Clinton's self-control that drove him to seek sexual and emotional gratification with an emotionally unstable White House intern.

While Democrats will deny such things to the death, liberals are as appalled over the behavior of the Clintons as any other American. Like the ignorant, uneducated peasant who delights in being placed in charge of the asylum and exults in new-found power, the Clintons, in their thinking, are convinced that the inmates will somehow come to see them as a legitimate source of power and may even impart a modicum of respect to the ''power couple.'' These are Arkansas rapscallions and humbugs who will stop at nothing to have crowds of us little people to boss around and run our lives.

In the face of that lust for raw, naked power, Kerry never had a chance the moment the Clintonistas rode into the his campaign, not as saviors and avenging cavalry as the Kerry-ites hoped, but as Huns and Mongols looking to slash and burn and pillage at the behest of their masters.

The thought that they may never have the White House again, induces utter panic in the Clintons, not unlike that rejected suitor who suddenly espies his true love with another man, happily doing the town, and enjoying the courtship ritual. That is what the Clintons lose the most sleep over: the reprehensible, frightening thought the American people may find a new suitor and forget about them and their neo-liberal utopian vision of a country run by themselves, having repealed the presidential term-limits and figuring out a way to somehow stay in power.

Kerry is almost as interesting but nowhere near as willing as the Clintons to do anything to gain power. Kerry wants the presidency for the sake of having the presidency, successfully converting his pathology and dysfunctional self into a public spectacle, whence he will set about wrecking the military establishment he despises and undermining the credibility abroad of the country he secretly loathes. In Kerry's thinking, that will be the ultimate vindication and validation of the nagging guilt he has over his actions in and after the Vietnam War. With a guilt complex as large as (Rather-ism here) a fatted hog waiting for the BBQ pit on a Texas Fourth of July, Kerry's lifelong obsession has been to assuage that guilt, first by becoming a member of the government he despises, then by twice marrying money as an opiate and enabler for his hedonistic high living, and lastly, by running for the office of President of The United States--the ultimate vindication.

There has never been any peace of mind for Kerry. With the United States Senate as a base of operations for his celebrity lifestyle and attempt at cultivating adoring masses, that venture has largely failed. Kerry never focused on serving the country or the American people, and just chased poll numbers by flip-flopping on every conceivable issue. The U.S. Senate tenure has failed.

The rich heiresses are an infinitely fascinating aspect of Kerry's world and, perhaps, the most insidious. Have no doubts: these were rich trophy wives who both turned into a Pygmalion nightmare for the War Hero. But the money was good and still is good--for now. It must have seemed like the perfect deal for Kerry both times: lonely, rich women seeking access to power and obsessed with the perceived validation that marriage would bring, and Kerry, with an equally compelling need to have a marriage as a political front and money to fuel the hedonism that suppresses the consuming guilt. There's nothing like a lifelong spending spree to chase away those blues and nagging conscience, eh?

Kerry never had a plan beyond playing the War Hero, something he viewed as a ploy that worked for so many others. The problem with that logic was there were many in the U.S. Navy who bore witness to Kerry's self-aggrandizing behavior and were repulsed by his obsession with Purple Hearts for any scratch and the unseemly pressure Kerry placed on superiors to recommend decorations. There are guys like that in every military unit in every day and time, and they are universally held in contempt. But for his status as an officer, Kerry would have been beaten up behind the chow hall likely more than once by fellow sailors sick of his incessant self promotion and stated intent to parlay his combat service into a run for the presidency.

Kerry actually was deluded enough to consider himself a latter-day Lieutenant John F. Kennedy, fearlessly helming his river craft in harm's way, hair blowing in the breeze and bullets whizzing by, slaying the enemy on front of him not because that enemy threatened his comrades but because that enemy stood between Kerry and what he wanted. In that context, I pity any hapless Vietnamese that ever foolishly got in Kerry's way because death was the only possible result at the hands of a deluded man with a messianic and hero complex. Kerry must have felt like a righteous, avenging warrior. While pumping bullets into the wounded teen-ager, he risked the lives of his men, thinking something like ''This is definitely medal material--maybe a Medal of Honor.'' It must have seemed like a nightmare to the wounded Vietnamese kid lying and facing up at a panicked Kerry whose facial features were contorted in fear, determined to get at least one ''confirmed kill'' in front of witnesses.

That Kerry would place his emotional and political fate in the hands of sleazy Clinton operatives is fitting. Certainly the War Hero derives little intimate and emotional satisfaction with a woman whose money has been, for her, little more than bait for powerful men, a woman who had the gall to describe herself as African-American in what has become a squalid joke.

For Kerry, the admission of the Clinton Gang to his campaign is an acknowledgement of failure on many levels. First, it is a failure of his management skills and his inability to get a majority of the American people to subscribe to his ''vision,'' a vision that changes (Rather-ism here) as fast as the temperature rises on a Texas Fourth of July and is as flexible as silly putty: flexes like putty and is terribly silly.

Second, the arrival of the Clintonistas is an acknowledgement that Kerry's desperation to assuage his guilt and gnawing emotional needs is so consuming and such an obsession that the War Hero will jump into political bed with anybody to achieve what will be, in his view, vindication, adoration, and – finally – a modicum of self-esteem. Self-esteem has never been an issue for Kerry, though he would certainly enjoy it.

Finally, selling his soul to the Clintons affirms that Kerry is still determined to stop at nothing in his quest for salvation. And that quest will extend to sacrificing the people, the system, and the country if that becomes convenient for the War Hero. The Clintons are people who can never get enough power, money, prestige, adoration--you name it. How much do the Clintons want? More. For Kerry the goal is more specific: validation to put the nagging conscience at rest. And other goals are love--which he has never known as an adult--and control of the military that he loathes and despises. That someone with such deep, underlying emotional conflict and rabid obsession to somehow resolve that conflict would seek the presidency as a way to fulfill those needs is one of the great Freudian conundrums of all time.

How is that different from the entire Clinton Administration?

After the mess of the coming election, the average RAT voter is going to beg the Clintons to come back and take over the party. Do you guys agree?

Ms. Clinton grew up in Chicago and now represents NY. I don't think anybody at all thinks of her as being from Arkansas.

I think the Clintons want Kerry to lose just like Al Gore did: By just enough to keep the party energized, but with such bad public grace that he cannot be the standard bearer next time.

A Kerry rout is bad for the Party and Hillary's chances next time, but a Kerry victory would be worse. They need a marginal Kerry loss that makes the base indignant.

Chicago, where one of the most powerful corrupt political machines statewise has existed for my entire lifetime, if not longer. This was the example she followed.
