TIME TO TRY THE CATKINS DIET..

BRITAIN'S biggest moggy has been put on a purr-manent diet after tipping the scales at an amazing 36lbs.

Monster puss Sam, who weighs as much as a two-year-old child, ballooned thanks to being fed crisps, sweets and cakes by his doting owner.

The supersized seven-year-old is five to six times the weight of a normal cat and so bulky he looks more like a dog or a badger.

Sam was handed over to the RSPCA Ark in Gosport, Hants, after his owner moved.

When it became clear he was too big for them to cope with they gave Sam to animal rescuers at Cats Protection in Stubbington - where he lives outside in an adapted pen.

Co-ordinator Debbie Marshall said: "A baker said Sam is heavy as a sack of flour - it is amazing. I think his owner loved him a bit too much.

"I imagine Sam had no access to the outside and no chance to exercise. His main activity would have been eating everything his owner did.

"Sam is quite shy with a lovely laid-back temperament and scared of cats a quarter his size."

Vets have ordered him to go on a strict low-fat regime of fish, chicken and vegetables.

When he has lost a bit more weight Debbie will fit him with a dog harness and take him for walks.

Britain's biggest recorded moggy was 28lb Thomas from Banbury. The fattest known cat, from Minnesota, US, was a colossal 41lbs.

Dang...

This photo of my cat Sasha was taken about a month after I adopted her 3 years ago at 26lbs. Since then, I've gotten her down to 20 but she's still got a ways to go.

My cat Idaho is the same as your Buford. He's just a large-size cat - vet has commented on his oversized skeletal structure. If I pick him up he likes to arch himself sideways across my shoulder and just hang. Never measured him from nose to rump but I'd say he's easily 24 inches, 30 if you want to include the tail.

Luckily he's got a very mellow disposition - except at feeding time!

Ooops. Meant to say 36 if you want to include the tail. He's not a Manx!

I think his owner loved him a bit too much.

Sam was handed over to the RSPCA Ark in Gosport, Hants, after his owner moved.

If this owner "loved" Sam so much, why did he abandon him when he moved. Or is this shabby reporting, and the owner moved somewhere that would not allow pets and took Sam to the shelter himself.

The story makes it sound like the owner just left the cat when he moved.

Do I dare show this to Miss Peach???? She is also approaching the "beached whale" position and unable to clean herself. It's just pure fat and she has been on diet cat food for most of her 7 years!

Something's not quite right. I'd ask the neighbors if they regularly lose small children.

Inside every fat cat is a thin cat yearning to get out. In that case, I'd say there's about five or six.

Tubber Cat licks his chops in anticipation of his next meal, currently trapped beneath his imposing back fat.
