BRITAIN'S biggest moggy has been put on a purr-manent diet after tipping the scales at an amazing 36lbs.
Monster puss Sam, who weighs as much as a two-year-old child, ballooned thanks to being fed crisps, sweets and cakes by his doting owner.
The supersized seven-year-old is five to six times the weight of a normal cat and so bulky he looks more like a dog or a badger.
Sam was handed over to the RSPCA Ark in Gosport, Hants, after his owner moved.
When it became clear he was too big for them to cope with they gave Sam to animal rescuers at Cats Protection in Stubbington - where he lives outside in an adapted pen.
Co-ordinator Debbie Marshall said: "A baker said Sam is heavy as a sack of flour - it is amazing. I think his owner loved him a bit too much.
"I imagine Sam had no access to the outside and no chance to exercise. His main activity would have been eating everything his owner did.
"Sam is quite shy with a lovely laid-back temperament and scared of cats a quarter his size."
Vets have ordered him to go on a strict low-fat regime of fish, chicken and vegetables.
When he has lost a bit more weight Debbie will fit him with a dog harness and take him for walks.
Britain's biggest recorded moggy was 28lb Thomas from Banbury. The fattest known cat, from Minnesota, US, was a colossal 41lbs.
There is NO WAY I could take my cat for a walk. It would never go along with that. Perhaps if she had skates on her feet it would work though.
That's no a cat - that's a pillow. he he
I stand by my earlier comment.
Lol, I had to go Google "hassock" to figure out what in the blazes you were talking about.
My cat, Buford, a resident of Minneapolis, comes in at 15 pounds.
He has a little bulk (fat) on him but he is basically one large and strong cat.
That's a sad story. Poor kitty.
Like the homepage says, these articles are posted for the purpose of education and discussion.
That is one fat cat. Wowsers.
Fat cat ping!
That's a giant puss if I ever seen one.
(Now watch it with your dirty minds, whoever's thinking I was saying something dirty.)
*sigh* Yes ma'am...
Fat cat alert
My cat enjoys walking around the yard on her little leash. She watched the dog getting leashed up for walks, hated to be left home alone, and practically begged to go out too. On one particularly harmonious day, they walked side by side quite politely through the woods on their leashes. Wish I'd had a camera along. Usually I have to walk one at a time.
