The following appeared as a full page advertisement in the Naples Daily News:
Dear Mr. Rather:
My grandfather served in the U. S. Army during World War I. My Father served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. I served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Now my son, a 2002 graduate (with distinction) of the U. S. Naval Academy in Annapolis is serving as a jet fighter pilot at a time when our nation is once again at war, against an enemy that is both ruthless and cowardly. An enemy like no other in the history of our country.
According to your published biography, Mr. Rather, you have never served in the armed forces. You went straight from college into journalism. However, you did cover the Vietnam War for a period of time. To that extent, I am totally amazed by your recent actions to discredit our nation's Commander-In-Chief during a time of war, using forged documents from a well-known discredited source!
Aside from trying to influence voters in the upcoming election in pursuing your own political ideology, what were you thinking? In Vietnam, did you ever even once discuss with our soldiers the impact news back at home has on the morale of our troops? We are at war, Mr. Rather, with sub-humans whose only purpose in life is to destroy our country. I believe your political bias has tainted your common sense, and destroyed your journalistic integrity.
Therefore I am calling for your resignation. Voluntary or involuntary. And since my only means of providing pressure on your network to make this happen is to withdraw my advertising from the local CBS affiliate, Channel 5, I have done so, effective immediately. I will use the money I save to pay for this newspaper ad.
I would not normally take such a strong stand, for fear of hurting my business, but the line has finally been crossed. I ask that all who agree with me, no matter what your political affiliation may be, to join with me in calling for Mr. Rather's resignation by calling, writing or e-mailing CBS and their local affiliate, WINK-TV.
Thank you for reading this, as I know Dan Rather won't (although I will send him a copy.) But please tell a friend.
Thank you.

Thanks for the ping.
I do appreciate them more than you know.
God Bless!
Nobody wants their sons and daughters in harm's way, but if all people thought like Beverly Cocco we'd all be speaking Gernman or Japanese.
Rather continues to show he hasn't the sense that God gave him.
He's become a joke.
BTTT
"That story was pathetic."
This whole draft thing is another massive phoney baloney lie created by the elites of the left to scare young voters and parents into voting for Kerry. It is a huge lie like the Plame/Wilson lie and the Phoney GW ANG documents.
"Nobody wants their sons and daughters in harm's way, but if all people thought like Beverly Cocco we'd all be speaking Gernman or Japanese."
Or Russian or ChiCom or Cuban or Farsi in the future.
"Rather continues to show he hasn't the sense that God gave him."
Blather like most of the talking heads on ABCNNBC BS are just tools of the Left Wing Propaganda Mediots.
Thank you for the ping!
If this guy worked in upstate NY I'd hire him to do by HVAC work.
But Burkett notes that Rather "never got through Marine recruit training because he couldnt do the physical activity.
Rather 'Unfit'
As Burkett explains in "Stolen Valor," Rather "was discharged less than four months later on May 11, 1954 for being medically unfit. As a boy, Rather had suffered from rheumatic fever.
I imagine there are 1,000s of letters like this being sent to cBS and/or their affialiates.
Danny boy is but a symptom of the problem. That problem is (IMO) the onesideed bias in the "mainstream media". Fortunatly technology is providing an answer.
Turn yourself in Dan...
This is great!!!!

Letter-writer Robert E. Dimond takes Dave Goodenough to task and calls the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth slimeballs. Mr. Dimond, these are 260 men who really served in Vietnam not four-month wonders. These men have no ax to grind other than to expose Kerry for the fraud that he is.
They were silent for 20 years while our hero languished in the Senate and found his fortune under a bottle of catsup. But when Kerry surfaced as a candidate for our highest office and made his four-month tour in Vietnam the centerpiece of his campaign, these real veterans had to speak.
Then Capt. Ronald Soulard informs Mr. Goodenough that calling our enemies "subhuman" equates with the "gooks" in the Vietnam era. Subhuman is too gentle a term for these savages who behead innocents. If we hunt down and destroy these vermin, and help to establish an Arab democracy in the Middle East, it could be the salvation of the Western world.
Capt. Soulard states that George Bush did not go to Vietnam. Capt. Soulard, if you are a rated pilot, you know that flying a military jet stateside could well be more hazardous to your health than four months in the Mekong Delta on a swift boat. Having logged over 2,000 hours pilot time during World War II, although never in a jet, I can speak from some experience.
