To the disgust of Florida's left-wing newspapers, Gov. Jeb Bush has tried to save Terri Schiavo from a gruesome, painful death by dehydration and starvation.
Now the usual suspects in the pro-death crowd are rejoicing at the latest ruling by the Democrat-run Florida Supreme Court.
But the governor said, "I'm disappointed for the moral reasons of the taking of innocent life without having, I don't think, a full hearing on the facts of what her intent was."
He observed that courts can delay death sentences for decades. Will the innocent Mrs. Schiavo be accorded the same privileges granted to vicious murderers? Bush said he might appeal the ruling. He has 10 days to ask for a rehearing.
Her brother, Robert Schindler Jr., told reporters the family found the court's ruling "disappointing and troubling." He said, "We're motivated by our love for Terri, and we're going to try to stay strong and find some way to save my sister."
Diane Coleman, head of the disabled rights group Not Dead Yet, told the Associated Press, "If this can happen, it means really that people with cognitive disabilities are in terrible danger in our health care system."

This is a horrible travesty. There is no common sense, there is no virtue, integrity or morality in what those who seek her death are perpetrating against this woman.
Bump. Why the race to kill an innocent woman? Why not turn her over to her parents?
There is also the insurance money.
For the lawyers, judges and certain advocay groups...it just shows how steeped certain aspects of our society are in the culture of death.
I agree. why on earth is her former husband so bent on killing her. He has moved on. What's it to him.
I have always believed that the husband has been trying to finish off the murder of his wife via the courts. Someone needs to go back to the beginning of this story and find out how Terri was beaten and crippled. If she were given over to her parents, Mr. Schiavo could very well end up on death row. Or not. Please see Claus von Bulow case to confirm.
One thing this case has done over the years they have fighting in the courts is to encourage people to make out living wills.
I carry one in the car,in my wallet and on our refrigerator.
I don't want the government determining what is best for me while I am alive, half dead or dead.
I think it is a shame that a killer gets more humane treatment when it comes to killing them. Think of the outrage if states decided to use starvation as a means of execution!
Someone go care for her.
And someone protect the caregiver.
I don't understand why anyone is waiting for permission to care for the sick.
This is incredibly cynical. The court correctly ruled that Terri's law violated the separation of powers. Lawmakers knew it when they passed the law and Bush knew it when he signed it. A law similar to this could allow the legislature to overturn death penalties imposed by juries which is absurd.
The entire situation should have been handled differently than passing a law that was unquestionably unconstitutional. Now Terri's been painted into a corner that there may be no way out from.
If Terri were an ax murderer there would be many on the left side of the fence who would be trying to save her life.
its about time we sent in a swat team. if the feds can do it to steal elian gonzales they can do it to rescue this poor woman.
What's in it for him? He has declined to comment on whether there is an outstanding life insurance policy on his wife.
But a miracle could happen, which doesn't seem to be what he wants. In fact, he's making sure it never happens.
Looks like dear little hubby is running scared. Any chance of Terri getting care or living means she can tell the truth about what he did to her. He doesn't want that.
If MS moves to murder this woman who has fought so hard, in circumstances that would have most likelly KILLED the healthy, to live all of this time in a virtual prison of ZERO stimulation (imagine that pain), hidden from everyone, not allowed to be wheeled outside to feel the sunshine or even to be wheeled out of her PRISON room in the home to see other faces, to hear sounds of life, then......I will go to Florida to join those 500 men you speak of, even if I am a woman.
This case has moved me like nothing else. And I now understand exactly how justice can be perverted and hidden from view.
I will go to Florida, and I will stand up for Terri if it comes to that...
There is whatever is left of the malpractice settlement stemming from Terri's injury, which he would inherit upon her death... Is it possible for Florida to charge Michael Schiavo with perjury or fraud, and then remove Terri from his custody on that basis? I have heard that he testified that the money from the settlement was to be used to treat Terri, but he instead used it in his legal quest to kill her.
I know that if I was the defendant, I would be looking to get my money back. Out of his hide, if necessary.
I wish they couls. He still refuses to divulge whether or not he has an outstaning life insurance policy on her.
Life insurance policies usually contain exclusions for deliberate acts to protect the insurer from fraudulent claims. If there is a policy, the insurer may be able to refuse to pay the claim in this case, considering the circumstances.
The problem is that her death would be attributed to "natural causes". Almost ironclad.
