[history]
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Rathergate -- the gift that just keeps on giving
by JohnHuang2
Surfing the Internet in my pajamas recently, I noticed a new rumor making the rounds. Something about this biggie anchor getting duped by fake documents. Now, if the documents are not what we were led to believe, I'd like to break that story. I'd like to break the story that an iceberg sank the Titanic, but, like the sinking Dantanic, some pajama guy scooped me on that one too.
Taking water in deep water out of sight of land, the crew of the CBS Dantanic, unable to plug a massive hole in their story, sent a massive distress signal Monday, claiming they were victims of accurate documents which were fake but still stood by the thrust of the story revealed in the fake documents as very solid. (New CBS motto: 'Trust us, we get it half right'. Or, 'Sixty half-truths in 60 Minutes'. 'We won't totally mislead you'. 'If we get tripped up, we let you know in 12 or 13 days, or when Bloggers smoke us out'. 'Even our questionable documents are accurate'.) CBS says an Unimpeachable Source misled them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The admission comes exactly 10 Ice Ages after the initial "60 Minutes" airing of documents purportedly generated on a Vietnam-era typewriter with awesome computing power by Bush's computer geek squadron commander who didn't type or keep personal files and was a big Bill Gates fan. The Unimpeachable Source, grassy-knoller Bill Burkett, says he once happened to see Bush's service record files in a trash can with 'FORTUNE SON BUSH HAS BEEN A-WALL!' scrawled on top and says he once happened to be passing by the office of a general yelling, 'COVER UP BUSH'S TERRIBLE SERVICE RECORD OR I'LL SHIP YOU TO PANAMA TO CONTRACT A DISABLING DISEASE!' and says he once happened to overhear a Bush aide order the Texas National Guard to shred all files stamped with 'BUSH IS A DESSERTER!!'.
Then, in '97, came the clincher, a terrible moment seared in his memory, says Burkett. An aide to then governor Bush walked up to him and told him: 'You must improperly alter Bush's service record and delete any embarrassing info -- THAT'S AN ORDER!' Burkett refused, so, as punishment, he was shipped to Panama to contract a disabling disease, says Burkett. Dan Rather says this proves Burkett had no ax to grind, although, in February, Burkett retracted his story, telling the Houston Chronicle that his allegation of Bush shipping him to Panama "was not accurate." This made Burkett an Unimpeachable Source. Rather now admits he and Burkett, who has a history of being an unimpeachable nut, have known each other for 30 years but Rather says he had no idea Burkett was a nut. In an August commentary for Online Journal, Burkett crowed that he had "reassembled" Bush's service record. To do this, Burkett used a special technique called Reconstructing Repressed Document Memory for documents plagued with Repressed Memory Syndrome.
Burkett now denies having forgery relations with those accurate documents and claimed the source was fellow ex-Guardsman George Conn. Then Burkett admitted that was a lie and that the source of the accurate documents or forgeries was Lucy Ramirez whom no one has been able to locate. Burkett insists the documents are real but has no way of proving it. Then he admitted that was a lie and that he burned the originals. So when Unimpeachable Burkett says, 'I didn't forge anything', Dan says you can take it to the bank.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The CBS network, retracting the fake memos but not the story strongly backed up by the fake memos, insists questions raised in the fake documents have not been answered. CBS says that, though the documents can not be authenticated, the story has been authenticated because of the documents. The Docu- ments Malfunctioned but not the story. Interviewed on a local CBS Affiliate in New York on Monday, Rather said the core of the story is genuine and that the only thing which remains questionable is the evidence. The memos, the heart of CBS's case that Bush is unfit for command, explosively reveal that Bush is a son of wealth (Bush could've picked less wealthy parents to be born to) and so he got special treatment by a colonel who wasn't even at the Guard at the time who pressured Bush's commander to 'sugar-coat' Bush skipping a flight physical he didn't need to take because he'd already been transferred to Alabama to work on a political campaign. (The question, 'Did Bush or didn't Bush attend that unnecessary flight physical 32 years ago?' is one that has the nation deeply shaken, I'm sure.)
Rather said mistakes were made. "It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition without fear or favoritism." It was in good faith that Rather forgot to nail down the source of the memos, forgot to nail down the chain of custody, forgot to check for forgeries, forgot to check for antique Microsoft typewriters, forgot to listen to document experts, and forgot that Bill Burkett is a rabid Democrat with a long history of attacking Bush, which means Burkett must be working for . . . Karl Rove! (See Tom Shales @ Washington Post and Maureen Dowd.) In fairness, Dowdy says she gives little credence to 'Rove did it!' conspiracy theories so she devotes 90% of column space to 'Rove did it!' conspiracy theories.
Network president Andrew Heyward ordered an "independent review of the process by which the report was prepared and broadcast to determine what actions need to be taken." (The report should be ready the day after the elections.)
Rather says if anybody lied to the public, it was Burkett, not he, and if anybody screwed up royally it was producer Mary Mapes, not Rather, who only runs the place. Now, in the spirit of trying to carry on the CBS tradition of not playing favorites, we learn that Mapes contacted Kerry's chief campaign spokesman Joe Lockhart to get him to call Burkett who wouldn't give Mapes the accurate documents unless Lockhart gave Burkett a call so Burkett could give him the heads-up on what's going down with the documents. Lockhart admits he called because he couldn't wait to get campaign advice from some nobody from Texas, so the whole thing was all so very innocent. Burkett was so enthralled telling Lockhart how to run the Kerry campaign that he forgot to mention the memos, so the subject never came up. So here we have Cleland, Burkett, Lockhart, Cahill, Mapes -- nope, no collaboration here at all.
My gut says this is only the beginning. Each day hereon will bring a new revelation, more damaging than the one before. One thing's for sure: With the Clinton A-Team of Carville, Begala, Lockhart, McCurry aboard, the Kerrytanic is taking water and sinking fast. By Election Day, the ship will have sunk. Hillary! will then say, Mission Accomplished. Get set -- the manure is about to hit the fan.
Anyway, that's...
My two cents

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

One of my two regrets is that I didn't start posting here long ago. I've read the FR site for years because of the terrific conservative links. Hi, Carling - glad you've officially become a Freeper now instead of a lurker - FR's home to some really great people! Thanks for stopping in at the Finest this morning, and hope to see you here again. :)

Oregon is looking a little saner these days. Must be more Carlings out there. Oh, I hope so! Wouldn't it be great if the voters woke up on the *right* side of the bed November 2nd - and did the right thing!

Clever, on-the-mark analysis as usual, Dear John!
You evoke a stunning picture of the Kerrytanic Kruise Ship floating on the Sea of Despair, for certain facing this impediment :
Furthermore, the Good Ship is not heeding the warnings
they have already passed:
The accompanying signs clearly cautioned

(hehehe - they lurk here, there and everywhere!)
Positively convulsed, I did, over your " and says he once happened to overhear a Bush aide order the Texas National Guard to shred all files stamped with 'BUSH IS A DESSERTER!!'. "
Oh my, oh my!
Next we'll see Kerry et al with new signs, proclaiming Bush's old foe paw (I refuse to use the proper french frase..:))

BLINTZKRIEG IN IRAQ !!

Nowhere we'd 'rather' be than here on Thrsdays, JH, with you keeping us happily informed!

Another great piece John..the only things you left out was screaming howie's phone call from burkett and brother cameron's past 'watergate' breakin for his brother hanoi john
connect the dots..Cleland, Lockhart, Dean, Cahill and Ted Kennedy, Burkett and Ben Barnes..all Dems connected to either the Kerry camp directly or to Texas Dem party. This smells of Watergate coverups.
Strange too is no mention of Cameron Kerry's 'watergate' breakin of his brother's rival during John Kerry's first run for Congress. Eagletribune But there was another, seldom-mentioned element of his 1972 run for 5th District congressman: the wild and wooly nature of the primary election that featured a Watergate-type break-in involving Kerry's campaign staff.
Kerry's younger brother, Cameron, and his campaign field director, Thomas Vallely, were arrested one day before the primary for breaking into a Lowell basement where telephone lines were kept for both the Kerry and DiFruscia campaigns. Their offices were on the same block.
I've seen two referenced to this phone call CNSNEWS Burkett's history with the Kerry campaign and Democratic National Committee also includes phone conversations with former Georgia U.S. senator Max Cleland and former Vermont governor Howard Dean, both of whom are campaigning on Kerry's behalf.
NY POST Burkett said he wanted to advise the Democrats on how to respond to the questions being raised about Kerry's own military record. To that end, he also was able to get former Sen. Max Cleland, a Kerry confidante, and ex-presidential candidate Howard Dean on the phone over the last 45 days.

Good read! After watching Kerry on TV this morning I can't understand why any American would vote for him. Seems he should be publicly scorned instead.

Ummmm...the iceberg of Truth. It's out there! lol
Enjoyed your Dear John Letter once again.
To: GailA
Those are some good finds Gail! More thuggery. Only the left can squirm out of that kind of trouble after being caught, guess they've had alot of practice.
That Burkett guy has been one busy dim.
To: Billie
Billie that is so
Cute!You're one of the few people here that could do that, I wouldn't even attempt it with my poor skills in Photo Explosion.
That's going on my Profile page. Thanks!

Good read! After watching Kerry on TV this morning I can't understand why any American would vote for him. Seems he should be publicly scorned instead. That would be his "President Bush isn't taking my advice I've been giving to him" speech after Allawi's (sp??) address to Congress. Kerry was just awful. Rush Limbaugh is on a tear about that today. He said that Kerry has hit a new low today. Rush has been playing parts of Allawi's speech.

His new pc is in, and he's getting the old files transferred and set up. He said he probably won't be around until tomorrow - it's been a couple of weeks since his old machine has been stable enough to stay around for very long.

To: Billie
Oh that's great. I know he's going to enjoy his new pc, he'll be surprised in the difference between the new and the old one.

I dont hang out on this thread a lot, but I have a request;
Ny favorite neice's husband is currently serving in Iraq (They are both USMC). He is with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Here is their website: 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit
I know they are getting a little bummed about the way the press is covering events there. How about a quick E-mail of support to show them that some of us here still care!
Thanks!
