My source familiar with discussions within CBS says that the discussions of "Dan falling on his sword" have been "muttered all over the place, but there is nothing solid - so far just "rumor and speculation." However, many staffers has been told to gather around 11 a.m. for an announcement of some sort.

He is sick enough that he probably did, while he was "handling" them.

Next to Kerry, Hillary is who they are most worried about protecting.
Every one else in the world, perhaps even everyone in a city targeted by Islamic terrorists, can be sacrificed to secure her election.

The ultimate ironic resolution would be thus:
CBS gets rid of Rather and Heyward. In a last-ditch attempt to save the news division from complete and total irrelevancy, Britt Hume's agent gets a phone call.
Britt becomes the highest paid news director in television history.
CBS "outs" Cleland and the Kerry Campaign like Solozzo and McCloskey at the Italian diner ("It's strictly business, Sonny.")
Peter Jennings takes the gas pipe.
Nah.

There was a story last week about a CBS affiliate in Texas that dumped the CBS Evening News from its program schedule and replaced it with Fox News. That's right -- a CBS affiliate that now runs Fox as its evening news.
This alone is such a scathing indictment of CBS that something dramatic has to be done whether they like it or not. No corporate owner is going to stand for that kind of crap for very long.

The source of the documents and the source of the storey are one and the same. They have to be. Burkett is the only person who has ever come forward with the "document cleansing" story. No one else could possibly have had the documents.
So if the documents fall, Burkett falls, and the whole shabby edifice falls, just as Ann Richards tried to tell them years ago.

I wonder if it's too late for Rather to jump on the Kerry campaign bandwagon.

Maybe they'll announce Dan's on drugs and he's checking in to the Betty Ford clinic.
To: Izzy Dunne
CBS News is issuing pajamas to all staff...LOL. And FR is now a mandatory "favorite" for news scouters to visit if they want to enter into the modern era of news bloggerism.
