I don't think it is necessary to understand the distinction between medals and ribbons. That is not the point. Kerry is shown using Clintonian parsing of words, i.e., It depends on what the meaning of "is" is. Caught in a lie, Kerry said clearly in 1971 that he threw away his medals (not ribbons), but in 2004 he says that medals and ribbons are interchangeable. Like Clinton, Kerry can change the meaning of words to fit his story.

The other piece of this ad is quoting him being proud for throwing away the medals/ribbons (whatever he wants to call them) and renouncing his service of his country. But at the DNC he said he was proud of his service in defense of his country.

I have NEVER before gotten such satisfaction from a political donation as I have from The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Money well spent.

Only when the polls show the Swift ads are no longer effective will they stop. In the meantime, the RNC and Bush campaign will take care of the other issues. It often takes an amount of time for the emotion to subside and the weight of the truth to be felt. This is an ongoing story that does not end with medals being thrown away. The impact of Kerry's possible election as Commander in Chief would be devastating to the morale of the military, and the Swifties are committed to doing all they can to prevent that from happening, so treasonous were his actions 30 years ago.

"And here are copies of my forged Silver Star, my fictious purple heart applications, and my dishonorable discharge. Also, here is a copy of my life membership in the Communist Party, my written Oath to overthrow the country and several other documents, as well."

Why is Dan Rather all over this. After all, it is the content of the message which is most important?

I think Paris will be coming up before long. I would also talk about the plot to kill Senators. Even though he voted against it, he never told the authorities of such a plot. Didn't Senator Stennis get shot after the plot. Was the shooting ever solved? I know he lived, but I think it is extraordinary that VVAW would want to shoot him, and then he gets shot. Too much of a coincidence for me.

"A good TV journalist would play the two tapes for him in an interview and have him make an accounting of his inconsistencies."

Senator Kerry's last interview was August 1. Everything since then has been speeches and canned responses.

An agitated old Kerry and a young, arrogant one... together on the same screen... contradicting each other. Not good for Kerry.

But the SBVfT really need to get back to the Swift Boat issues--specifically, they could make an ad out of the Silver Star report they just got that shows them to be telling the truth about that incident (and Kerry to be lying), written by Kerry himself, and proves that Kerry has not released all of his records. THAT is damning.

The issues dealing with silver star etc. are too difficult for many people to follow in soundbite journalism that MSM
practices. Also MSM has muddied these waters. The best way to sink Kerry's boat is to show the young arrogant hanoi john spouting his anti USA garbage IMHO.

I love the add, saved it to disk so I can watch it whenever I need a good laugh!

I did the same. Do you happen to know -- Are the previous ads available anywhere on line to save as well?

>"6 - 7, We threw away what our government gave us." He is a damn traitor!!! Send him back to VietNam. They love him there.<

And don't forget, he owes the Navy about 240 days in-country. He's all but admitted he snookered the military into awarding his first Purple Heart for a superficial self-inflicted wound.

These Swift Boat swabbies are setting me back. Had to send them more $$$$ today.

From the Swiftees Email newsletter today:
Swift Boat Vets Launch Next Round of TV Ad Campaign

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth released a second ad highlighting John Kerry as he denounced his veteran shipmates and his country by throwing away his commendations after his return from a brief, four-month tour of duty.

This new ad, which will air statewide in Nevada, New Mexico and on some national cable stations, represents a $500,000 media buy -- roughly 700 gross rating points per state over a six-day period. The ad features Kerry's comments during television news interviews in 1971 and 2004 regarding his decision to throw his medals away.

"When John Kerry threw his medals away, he betrayed his fellow veterans, he betrayed his country, and he betrayed every American our armed forces have fought to protect," said Admiral Roy Hoffmann, founder of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

The ad shows Kerry saying, "I gave back -- I can't remember – six, seven, eight, nine . . .and that was the medals themselves." Kerry also stated in 1971 that he and others like him "renounce the symbols" of his country.

But those statements were far different from the comments Kerry made in 2004, in which he tried to downplay and re-cast the event. In the 2004 version of his medal-tossing incident, Kerry attempted to say that he only threw away ribbons, not the medals themselves and that, "we threw away the symbols of what our country gave us."

The ad closes by asking viewers the question, "John Kerry -- can you trust anything he says?"

Yeah. Pretty crafty, those Swifties!
If i'm not mistaken, you can go to their website & get a look at the transcript (maybe, video too?) of the Merv Griffin interview re the medals. I know that a link to the transcript of Kerry's head-to-head with O'Neill is on there.
A little lengthy,but a good read.
