My husband is a doggy person. We've lost two dogs in the last 11 years. One a year ago in July. We had to make the decision to put them to sleep. Very hard.
I have a mixed lab/shepherd that is very good at understanding many of my sentences. Like...."let's go in the house."
Koontz and his wife don't have children, so I guess they decided on a dog. I think he started putting more dog stories in his books after he got his dog, Trixie.

Wonderful song of His Faithfulness...how very profound, and true. Thanks for sharing that with us.
I'm in, finally.
A Marine stands in the hallway of a newly refurbished school as he patrols in Najaf, Iraq, on Tuesday.
The Marine's new Occupational Specialty which has been designated School Hall Monitor is not yet fully slotted by the Corps.
A Marine sits at a desk in a newly refurbished school in Najaf, Iraq, on Tuesday.
Detention Class in the Marines is supposed to be taken seriously but those jarheads at times simply do not seem to take important things the right way.
Iraqi prisoners receive cigarettes and a copy of the new Iraqi constitution on Wednesday after arriving in Baghdad from Abu Ghraib prison. Hundreds of prisoners were released from the jail on Wedneday. Call me a cynic but giving these people a constitution and matches at the same time could be a poor policy at this juncture. |
Lt. Col. Sean Blochberger takes pictures of his family from the cockpit of his Harrier aircraft after he and five other Marine pilots returned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., on Tuesday. The pilots, members of Marine Attack Squadron 542, had been deployed to Afghanistan with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit for the past seven months. Say hello to the new kid back on the block. |

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld takes a question from a soldier at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Tuesday. Rumsfeld was at the base to thank the troops for their service in Iraq. You over there, yes you the one in the Fatigues, what is your question?

Army National Guard members react to President Bush's speech at the General Conference of the National Guard Association in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Some National Guard cheerleaders have a bit of work to do on their synchronized routines.

President Bush is applauded by Maj. Gen. Gus Hargett, center, Col. Al Faber, second from left, and Brig. Gen. Robert Taylor, left, as he speaks at the General Conference of the National Guard Association in Las Vegas on Tuesday. I'll take my first question from the Press from Dan Rather. |
F-15 fighter jets from the 1st, 2nd and 95th Fighter Squadrons, based at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., line up on the taxi line at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., on Monday, after being evacuated ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Ivan. The taxi lines are long because many cabbies are simply reluctant to have to drive one of those jets around in the back of their vehicles. |
This is a picture of the recently opened new state of the art tunnel in Boston which cost American tax payers in excess of 15 billion dollars. It has a leak.
This is my one of my favorite Ernie Tubb songs. Very poignant. I'd like to dedicate it to all of Vets and those now serving.
Written by Redd Stewart and Ernest Tubb
Soldiers Last Letter
When the postman delivered the letter
Well, it filled her old heart full of joy
But she din't know 'til she read the inside
It was the last one from her darling boy
"Dear Mom," was the way that it started
"I miss you so much," it went on
"And, Mom, I didn't know that I loved you so
But I'll prove it when this war is won"
"I'm writing this down in a trench, Mom
So don't scold if it isn't so neat
For you know as you did, when I was a kid
And would come home with mud on my feet"
"Well, the captain just gave us our orders
And mom we will carry them through
I'll finish this letter the first chance I get
But for now I'll just say I love you"
Then the mother's old hands began to tremble
As she fought against tears in her eyes
For they came unashamed, there was no name
And she knew that her darlin' had died
That night as she knelt down by her bedside
She prayed, "Lord above, hear my plea
Protect all the sons who are fighting tonight
And dear God keep America free"
Naaaah...not old...anything but old!
Redd Stuart was a great song writer. He was a good singer two. He replaced Eddie Arnonld as the singer in Pee Wee Kings band. Eddie left Pee Wee to go on his own. Eddies first manager was Colonel Tom Parker.. the same Colonel Tom parker that later managed Elvis.
Eddie Arnold signed Parker's 50 percent contract. Parker would not manage for the 15 percent managers normally got. It was a 50 percent cut for Tom parker and 50 percent cut for Eddie. Eddie later sued to get out of the contract and won. Parker then managed Hank Snow until he found Elvis. Elvis paid Parker 50 percent of the gross too. That stayed in effect until after Elvis died. The probate judge in Memphis canceled Parkers contract with Elvis after Elvis passed.
Redd Stuart wrote some of the first cross over hits. "You belong to me" was one of the first big ones.
Redds later songs became a lot more complex in chord structure and melodic content. He was a great writer. I have always admired his work.
Forever young, Jinxy that's what we are!!
Oh Tomkow, thank you! Love this song!
I love that song. I have it (sung by Glen Campbell) in my files.
Another one I love that Glen sang (though is very sad, imo) is Yesterday When I Was Young.
