Guard Secretary, Flight Instructor Chip Away at CBS Story
By Bobby Eberle and Jeff Gannon
Talon News
September 15, 2004
HOUSTON (Talon News) -- Despite repeated assertions by CBS news that documents used in a "60 Minutes II" story to question the National Guard service of President George W. Bush are authentic, more testimony continues to emerge which eat away at CBS's claims. Now, the secretary of former Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, the supposed author of the documents, says that Killian never typed memos.
"He didn't need to. He had me," Marion Carr Knox, Killian's former secretary at the Texas Air National Guard said to Internet reporter Matt Drudge.
Knox added, "I did not type these particular memos. I typed memos like these."
"I typed memos that had this information in them, but I did not type these memos," Knox explained. "There are terms in these memos that are not Guard terms but that are Army terms."

She says she typed memos with 'similar contents' but not these memos.

My gosh! Watching this now it seems to me that CBS is finished.
Using an elderly lady to back up their scam. Way to go, Dan. Your Mom would be proud, I'm sure.

She 'feels' GWB got into the NG by preferential treatment.
Feels, but no first-hand knowledge.
[What a hit piece. Wonder how much prompting she got on the plane ridge to NYC?]

Still waiting for them to point out that this lady is a partisan Democrat.

Sec: GWB didn't have to go by the rules. "It 'felt' that way to me," she said.
[This is all conjecture based on her impressions and feelings. Move over Kitty Kelly.]

I am so happy to live in Lubbock, Texas, our local CBS station is showing a movie instead of 60 minutes 2, and they are scrolling across the bottom that it will be aired at 12:35 a.m.

OK, now I'm VERY mad. No one has contested the "main thrust" of thier story? Thier experts still support them? I'm flippin cause this means that by CBS's POV, ABC is just another right-wing organization.
To: Howlin
The theme is:
The documents are fake (even the sec admitted they weren't real), but the contents are what is important.
[How gullible do they think we are? Contents in a fake document are irrelevant, Dan. The documents (thus their contents) are fake.]

Relax, folks, and back off on the 'addled old biddy' stuff. She's contradicted herself so many times, no one is going to take this seriously, particularly after the 'selected, not elected' remark she made a couple of days back. This isn't going to save See-BS's bacon.

People, can we POSSIBLY post all the facts on this thread????? We don't need a hundred threads with ONE THOUGHT on them. Thanks. OK, here goes, based on what I've read.
- The documents in question match MS-Word perfectly. If you type in MS Word, the character spacing, etc. is the same as it is in Word.
- Some typewriters in the early 1970s had special characters that did the "th", "nd", and "rd" as superscript. Some of these were special keys. Other times, you'd have to change the ball to an 8 point or 10 point ball.
- Some typewriters had proportional spacing.
- Nonetheless, no one to this day has been able to use an old typewriter and come up with a document that is substantially similar to the documents in question.
- What many people don't realize was difficult to do, but was indeed very difficult, was to center things properly on a typewriter. Especially with proportional fonts. If you had a courier font, then it was simply a matter of counting characters and dividing by 2 to see how many characters you needed to be from center. But with proportional fonts, this is indeed very difficult. You'd basically have to type the text on another piece of paper, and then measure it, and then divide by 2 and indent the proper distance from the center. Centering is a much bigger issue than the superscript in my opinion. Not because it wasn't theoretically possible, but because it required so much legwork that it would have not been worth the effort to get it this exact.
- One of the generals referred to in the letter, General Staudt, had retired 18 months or so before the memo. CBS claims he still exerted influence. Yeah, right. If he was dead, CBS would still defend their memos. Their defense is pure idiocy. Really.
- The PO Box was valid, but was not for that particular unit or division.
- CBS is in too deep now. They'll keep on defending it no matter what. It doesn't matter what turns up now. They've gone this deep, and they're beyond the point of no return. They're not going to retract now. It's like Michael Douglas in Falling Down.
I'd love a few more clarifications to the list...

I think Rather has jumped the shark and this is now doing serious damage to Kerry and the media. They are making it obvious to the public in general what we've known for a long time, that MSM are partisans and what Rather is doing is campaigning against the President; this has nothing to do with "news."
My prediction is that Bush's numbers will improve as a result of CBS deciding to openly campaign against him.
To: Howlin
To my knowledge, Rather did not interview her when he first went with the story. Her story keeps "improving" as time goes on. The first interview with her I read, she used the phrase "selected, not elected" to refer to Mr. Bush's presidency. This is a favorate mantra of the DNC, etc. So, how does it become the opening remarks of this woman?

Dan Rather aka CB.S.'s pious church lady. Church Lady Dan ranted ad nauseum about Bushes National Guard preferential treatment when Dan Rather has been given "preferential" treatment over the course of his ENTIRE career, on and off the job. How's that for a liberal elitist hypocrite! Dan Rather, you are a sanctimonious dilletante of the worst kind. You sit there like Judas with your smug smirk. I feel it in my bones, Rather will be smoked by the hand of God and not a moment too soon. Pity the fool for he mocks the lord in vain.

I just ran Marian Knox's name on the Houston voter registration database. She is an active partisan Democrat. She's voted in every Democrat primary except for one since 1994 (the oldest records I have) and that year she didn't vote.

Thanks Howlin. Here is my take on this pile of garbage tonight.. Dan Rather knows his days are numbered at CBS.. so he is going to slander President Bush as much as he can before he is forced out. He will have fulfilled his duties to the Dems and he will retire and run for congress.
Just my .02
