N Korea says it blew up mountain
North Korea has given an explanation for the huge blast last Thursday which prompted speculation that it was a part of a nuclear test.
The country's foreign minister, Paek Nam Sun, said the blast was the deliberate demolition of a mountain as part of a hydro-electric project.
His remarks were in response to a call for information by the visiting UK Foreign Office minister, Bill Rammell.
North Korea had said absolutely nothing about the incident until now.
Just occurred to me...
must be the dreaded "Lewinsky weapon" ...
aka
what a Bl*w Job! </g>
(in other words, even Monica wouldn't swallow this claim...)
Any word on radioactive by-products detected in Japan,
Australia, or whereever prevailing winds at the time
would take the residue ??
My hubby just said that when I read the article to him.
I guess that is possible.
And apparently China nor anyone else knew of any work in the area.
Now Kim's got to spend money on a worthless project just so some people will buy his lie.
Shhhh! ;-)
This blast and the April blast on the train in North Korea both happened *very* close to the border with China.
There's a HINT in there for us...
The AWB Has Expired - Gun Owners Have Won Again For All Americans!
I wonder how many North Koreans bought the collective farm in the explosion?
Thanks for the reply.
Any technical info on:
different Richter readings for blasts within water
vs. within ground
different Richter readings for small air-burst nuke
tests vs. in-ground tests of similar size
[Note: no tin-foil hat, just a desire to MAKE SURE]
[Note: other FReeper thread fed data into public-domain
code from Lawrence Livermore, HOTSPOT, to gauge
size of detonations from mushroom cloud, came up
with answer in low kilotons (tactical nuke or
nuclear trigger)... ]
The smallest nuke tests were the 5 done by Pakistan in response to India's 1998 blast. CNN claims that those tests measured 4.6 on the Richter Scale, while globalsecurity.org claims that they measured up to 5.0 at peak.
The Kursk conventional explosions measured 3.5 and 1.5. The North Korean blast this week measured 2.6.
The latest North Korean blast happened very near known ammo dumps and a volatile missile plant.

Don't worry, they'll never believe it anyway. (Until The Hammer comes down on them.)
dittos
Perhaps they were trying to build a bridge between the two peeks of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
I heard 4 brothers, two sets of twins were attempting that but had been lost. Next year's expedition will look for last year's expedition.
Don't worry about that (covers eye), we'll get him up there.
Bad Feng.
I guess Baghdad Bob found himself a new job...
Again, grateful for the information-- begins to
look more like conventional --
but in interests of fairness, this did not address
the issue of Richter measurements of air blast nukes. . .
Sorry to appear to beat a dead horse, but the implications
if it WERE a nuke, are very interesting for hours of
frenzied posting </g>
No response required. My wife is threatening to make
me sleep on the soft (TM) if I don't come right to bed </g>
Sounds like an N.K. Long Dong went critical Mass if you ask me.
"sleep on the soft" --> "sleep on the sofa"
(search many of my previous posts. My typing
skills -- not necessarily my IQ -- drops
exponentially after my bedtime </g>)
Inchon Bob sez: "Kim Jong Il trying new recipe for Chinese General Tso's Chicken put in too much rice in wok and go kaboom
Wok was secret plot of Mossad aided by American Imperialists.
Next question?"
Then the exploding mountain started a forest fire which caused a mushroom cloud. Makes perfect sense.
