DNC TO LAUNCH FRESH ATTACK ON BUSH GUARD DUTY: WILL RAISE QUESTIONS ABOUT 1978 CAMPAIGN LIT
**Exclusive**
Faster than a CBS eye can blink, dogged Dems are set to take to the airwaves anew hoping to keep questions about President Bush's National Guard duty in play, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Candidate Kerry apparently has rejected former President Clinton's advice not to get further locked in a 2004 Vietnam quagmire.
"George W. Bush's campaign literature claimed that he 'served in the U.S. Air Force.' The only problem? He didn't," slams a new DNC press release set for distribution.
Dems will attempt to increase the heat on Bush ahead of his planned Tuesday address before The National Guard Association gathering in Las Vegas.
In 2000, Bush opened his National Guard Association speech: "General, I am reporting for duty."
MORE
Kerry plans to speak to the group on Thursday, but he personally hold back questioning Bush's service, sources explain.
The coordinated nationwide effort this week by the DNC has been code-named "Project Fortunate Son."
"George Bush has a clear pattern of lying about his military service," DNC Communications Director Jano Cabrera blasts in the new release. "From 1978 to the present day, George Bush has refused to tell voters the truth about his service. It's time for the President to come clean."
"Flyers distributed to Texas voters during Bush's failed Congressional race say 'he served in the U.S. Air Force and the Texas Air National Guard.' But according to Air Force officials, Air National Guardsmen are not counted as members of the active-duty Air Force."

God Bless you and your service. I have wondered many, many times how anyone who served in the Guard felt when Kerry implied somehow Bush did not have a "real" military background. The message (nuanced, of course) was cowards went to the Guard because they were afraid to go to Viet Nam. "Second class warriors"
I'm sure your outrage is shared by the majority of your fellow Guardsmen. But thank you for expressing it------I needed to hear that.
I served as a Helicopter Crew Chief in the Illinois Army National Guard for 6 years. Our unit (33rd Aviation Battalion) was going to go to Vietnam but didn't because we didn't have the helicopters they wanted. ( We had the old OH-1's like you see on the opening of the M.A.S.H. TV show).
Many of our brave men and women serving this very minute in Iraq are Guardsman. To have the DNC or the Kerry campaign besmirch these brave men and women makes my blood boil!

The Air Force says that Air National Guard members are considered "guardsmen on active duty" while receiving pilot training. They are not, however, counted as members of the overall active-duty Air Force. Right. He was a Guardsman on active duty with the Air Force. It works the same way in the Army, at least it did when I was in. When on active duty for training, Army reservists (or NG) are indistinguishable from Army regulars. But technically, they remain reservists (or Guard), even when sent off to fight a war. Not everyone serving on active duty is part of the Regular Army. The only time the distinction is noticed is for promotions, when the regulars may get preferential treatment. And when the services are downsized, the regulars are usually holding secure slots. Otherwise, active duty is active duty. All service people know this.

This is clear evidence of the DNC purposely torpedoing Kerry's campaign on behalf of Hillary Clinton.I have to admit, taking Clintoon's crew on board is like the Trojan horse gift.

Your post proves the GLOBE article wrong.
Look at the assignment for 2Oct.73 - 21NOV74
It shows that Bush has assignment in Denver. Which is what a General said on CNN last week.
If Bush owed extra drills....they were done during this period

Welcome to FR. We all have our disagreements with W and co., but by and large we've set them aside until the 2nd week of Nov. because some liberal idiots are trying to get us killed.

Thanks!
I can't believe this is the hill they want to die on. It's just too easy to verify; why are they going here? It just doesn't make sense.

Somebody said to me this is one of a possible forgery because of the superscripting on it. Either way why would the forger make a forgery that contradicts something they are trying to do?

I can't believe they will actually pull the trigger on this charge, which is hardly a technicality in its worst light.

Kerry is not only a fortunate son, he's a fortunate kept man, and one who wants to be the second black president, as long as he can still wear his ascot when he goes for a leisurely boat ride with Lovey.

Perhaps it's just plain old desparation. Maybe their internal polls are even worse than the published ones. Plus they are angry lot, beyond reason. They want revenge for the Swifties.
To: Crazieman
I can hear Carvile now...convincing Kerry that THIS is the break they need. Wink, Wink....hello Hillary '08.

Look at this news report from MSNBC regarding a misstatement in Kerry's campaign literature THIS year!!!!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5748066/
All the President's campaign needs to do is state that sometimes errors happen and point to this little news tidbit.

Seriously. I think the GOP ought to point out how he and the Breck Girl evade taxes and live like playboys. They are no populists. An ad with him windsurfing like a gigolo douche bag would be good too.
To: Crazieman
Psssst....If they go forward with this 1978 campaign effort, should we tell them that Karl Rove has set them up again? Terry Mc...to John Kerry.....D'oh!

not quite; he was HONORABLY discharged 1 Oct. 1973 and transferred to the inactive (non-drilling) reserve. he was attending Harvard.

The difference is the Swifty's are very credible with eyewitness evidence and in articulating their story. The Dems are grasping at straws. They are just throwing chit at the wall and hoping something sticks. Also they are overdoing it so even their own people see they are just acts of desperation.

This is just goofy now, except for the real story....the media is making up for the limits of the CFR laws.
Thety've chosen sides and it's sick.
To: hugh59
This isnt even a error or misstatement. Bush served in the USAF and ANG, end of story.

That would have been something to be concerned about. :-)
