DNC TO LAUNCH FRESH ATTACK ON BUSH GUARD DUTY:  WILL RAISE QUESTIONS ABOUT 1978 CAMPAIGN LIT

**Exclusive**

Faster than a CBS eye can blink, dogged Dems are set to take to the airwaves anew hoping to keep questions about President Bush's National Guard duty in play, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Candidate Kerry apparently has rejected former President Clinton's advice not to get further locked in a 2004 Vietnam quagmire.

"George W. Bush's campaign literature claimed that he 'served in the U.S. Air Force.' The only problem? He didn't,"  slams a new DNC press release set for distribution.

Dems will attempt to increase the heat on Bush ahead of his planned Tuesday address before The National Guard Association gathering in Las Vegas.

In 2000, Bush opened his National Guard Association speech: "General, I am reporting for duty."

MORE

Kerry plans to speak to the group on Thursday, but he personally hold back questioning Bush's service, sources explain.

The coordinated nationwide effort this week by the DNC has been code-named "Project Fortunate Son."

"George Bush has a clear pattern of lying about his military service," DNC Communications Director Jano Cabrera blasts in the new release. "From 1978 to the present day, George Bush has refused to tell voters the truth about his service. It's time for the President to come clean."

"Flyers distributed to Texas voters during Bush's failed Congressional race say 'he served in the U.S. Air Force and the Texas Air National Guard.' But according to Air Force officials, Air National Guardsmen are not counted as members of the active-duty Air Force."

They do not have a choice, they are running a campaign without a candidate, and they feel that their best assets are McAuliff and Harkin taking center stage calling Bush a liar. The forgeries put them on the bench for the weekend, so they will trot out a new script. As far as the Democrats are concerned the election is not about electing Kerry but taking down the President which they obsessively hate. Let's face it, no one likes Kerry, the Democrats are totally driven by their hate of Bush and their loathing of all that is America which includes its place as sole superpower, and the economic ideal as the land of opportunity. If it up to the Democrats, we will take a subservient position as one among equals to the members of the EU.

Never fear Bush is in the process of letting them self destruct one more time.

They should have engineered Kerry's departure months ago and put Edwards at the top.

Still, it might be working. You notice the "Time" interviewer didn't bother to ask Kerry the Cambodia question?

Dems are trying too hard to find a moral equivalent to Kerry's military record.

Their desperation is stifling.

The Air National Guard

The Air National Guard also has total responsibility for air defense of the entire United States. In addition, it serves as a reserve component of the U.S. regular Air Force.

...code-named "Project Fortunate Son."

hmmmmm. That's interesting...

Hatfield, J.H. Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President. New York: Soft Skull Press, 2000. 375 pages.

When this book was published by St.Martin's Press in October 1999, mistakes were made by both St.Martin's and the author. The afterword of this book includes circumstantial evidence, confirmed to the author by three unnamed sources, about Bush's arrest for cocaine possession in 1972, and how daddy got the record expunged after Junior performed community service. St.Martin's chose to sensationalize this tiny portion of an otherwise solid book, and found itself under tremendous pressure as one interview after another was cancelled. Then the author falsely denied to a Dallas reporter that he was the same as one James H. Hatfield, a convicted felon. With Hatfield's continued refusal to name his sources for the Bush cocaine story, this false denial was just the excuse that St.Martin's needed. They promptly took their cue from the other rats in our major media, and abandoned ship. All copies were recalled and burned.

The book itself, however, is responsible, thoroughly-researched, and well-documented, and nothing about the author can change this simple fact. The pressure that St.Martin's felt was entirely political, not legal; their own lawyer, plus an outside firm, had already scrutinized everything. So a "punk" alternative publisher, Soft Skull Press, reprinted it in full with additional material. Sometimes it helps to be too small to crush. ISBN 1-887128-50-6

But, even DUmmies know this is a loser:

From ET Awful at 1:23:

since he was on active duty for a year while training on the F-102, he was Air Force during that time. There are other materials however that state "he returned to his National Guard unit where he continued flying for several more years" (or words to that effect), the problem is he only flew through the beginning of 1972 which was more like a year and a half, not "several" years.

Obviously, the intent was to mislead, but the above is the defense he'd use.

That's not really at issue.

I'd focus more on his fraudulent enlistment (since he didn't reveal all arrests, detainments, etc.), and his AWOL status later on.

Great post. Square on. And the absolutely ludicrous thing about it is that the Dims attacking Bush on the basis of what he did or didn't do when he was in the military doesn't even energize their base because military service/ lack there of was proven irrelevant when bubba got elected.

I think Hatfield committed suicide. Which doesn't bode well for a campaign named after his book!

If Kerry attacks Bush'es Guard service, I don't think Bush should dignify this POS with a single debate.

Libertarian, eh?
And you equate SBVT with slander and libel by a government-licensed media entity?
Care to expound on that? I'd be interested in reading how you will defend yourself.
Otherwise, you may find yourself ZOTTED.
