SANTA FE (AP) - Santa Fe police say an anti-war protest turned physical at a site where the state Department of Transportation is considering banning demonstrations.
The scuffle broke out Friday between an anti-war protester and the sole pro-Bush protester on a traffic island at a busy intersection.
Robert DiGiulio, who carried a sign comparing President Bush to a Nazi, says Richard Corrow hit him in the face and knocked him out of his wheelchair.
But Corrow, whose sign offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who can prove Bush lied about Iraq, says DiGuilio started it by screaming at him and ramming him with the wheelchair.
Peace Action New Mexico has been organizing protests at the corner for two years.
No arrests were made.
A traffic engineer has argued the protests could distract drivers.

There will be more opportunities for protesting, as John Edwards will be in Santa Fe on Monday morning.
Any Freepers planning on being there?
Wonder when shots will be fired?
You'll see more of this. The 'anti-bush' ( read: commies ) folks instigating violence. Then, when there is a response, either because of goading or self-defense, the violence will be blamed on the person who reacts rather than the instigator. Typical tactic from the left.
Uh-uh I'm in a wheelchair...you can't touch me (as I ram into you with my metal steed). LOL
"Your not for Peace?.....
I'll beat the living daylights out of you then!"
Yup. Be careful people. We saw alot of this at the Gore Protests outside of "Cheney's house". They come across the street and get in your face, hoping you'll react violently - as the LeftStream camera's are rolling.
In contrast, a leftie shoved an 8 year old girl to the pavement and the camera-crews didn't enough to capture it on tape.
//should be:
and the camera-crews didn't care enough to capture it on tape.
Somebody's ass needs voted off the island.
Not to mention the faux artsy fartsy crowd of those with questionable sexual proclivities who have completely "Californicated" the place.
...used to be a nice place.
We still like to get up to the top of the ski trails in the Sante Fe National Forest and hike during the off season. We simply drive by the mess.
I'd repy but I've been banned. :)
Isn't that sort of the point of a protest?
I love Santa Fe - I had a blast there earlier this year, and can't wait to go back...
(I wore a Bush/Cheney t-shirt there for a whole day wandering around town and didn't hae one comment directed at me, nor any incidents... )
It's bad form to knock a gimp out of his wheelchair.
Is it bad form to say gimp?
No
Outside of Sante Fe is nice --- some very beautiful mountains and forests but the town itself is weird. You can get lost --- all the houses look the same -- I guess they must obey someone in charge of the way everything must look.
Uh yeah, I am disabled and use a cane to walk. If I was to use the cane on a kerrite, would I be exempt from retaliation, I don't thiiiiiink so? No different, the WC was used as a weapon.
