Bush Guard papers 'forged'

By Hugh Aynesworth
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published September 12, 2004

DALLAS -- New information casts additional doubts about the authenticity of the memos purportedly written concerning President Bush by a former superior officer in the Texas Air National Guard in the 1970s, as Dan Rather and CBS News doggedly stuck to their guns defending the documents.
"They're forged as hell," said Earl W. Lively, 76, who during the era in question was director of Texas Air National Guard operations in Austin.
Mr. Lively said he had proof that Col. Walter "Buck" Staudt -- who supposedly forced an underling to favorably alter reports on Mr. Bush's activities as a member of the Guard in the early 1970s -- had been honorably discharged nearly 18 months before the date of the memos, purportedly written by Lt. Col. Jerry Killian.
After Mr. Lively's revelation, the Dallas Morning News discovered records amid the newspaper's archives, from when the paper investigated Mr. Bush's Guard career in 1999, that show Mr. Staudt had left the Guard on March 1, 1972.
One of the memos concerning Mr. Staudt's supposed pressure to ensure that Mr. Bush's record was to be "sugar coated" was dated Aug. 18, 1973.
Mr. Killian at the time was Mr. Bush's squadron leader.
"And there's no way that Jerry Killian would have written what they've come up with," added Mr. Lively, now one of the most successful real estate agents in Dallas.

This post, which was FAXED to CBS and Viacom today, along with the formal copy being sent to the National Guard should be giving them a bit of heartburn :)

"What next?"

Oust him from the network. Toss him on the street. He has staked his reputation (which was shoddy to begin with) on this story.

Also expose how high up in the DNC/Kerry Campaign this forgery scheme goes.

Prosecute the letter writer for forging a signature of a Federal official.

There are other news agencies complicit as well. No rest until they are GONE.

Retired colonel Earl W Lively, the operations officer for the Texas air National Guard at the time, says Bush would have had an easy ride there. "Alabama didn't care. He wasn't contributing anything to that unit. He just had to show up there, so that's that. He performed what his commander required of him, and his commander gave him, in effect, a leave from his duty to go do his civilian occupation elsewhere."

Sounds like he had a (Zell) "Miller Moment"!

I just keep wondering how they could be so stupid. I ask if there is something they could gain from it and can't find any good answers. Maybe they fell for Michael Moore's view of Americans but I just don't know how they could be this stupid. Did they get the Clinton's arrogance disease?

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe called the documents "further evidence, really, that George W. Bush failed this country when it was his time to serve and he hid out."

He suggested that White House political adviser Karl Rove might have been the one who supplied CBS News with the documents.

McAuliffe is losing his mind here. He's simultaneously suggesting the documents are damning proof about the president and that they are fake.

This seems like a blatant attempt to throw mud, even contradictory mud, in sound-bite sized snippets and hope that something sticks.

CBS said yesterday it was "adamantly defending the authenticity of the memos," and claimed "experts who examined the memos concluded they were authentic documents," "This report was not based solely on recovered documents, but rather on a preponderance of evidence, including documents that were provided by unimpeachable sources, interviews with former Texas National Guard officials and individuals who worked closely back in the early 1970s with Colonel Jerry Killian and were well acquainted with his procedures, his character and his thinking," the network said.

OK, Rather. Name those unimpeachable sources. Who gave them to you? The DNC? The Kerry Campaign? Hillary? Fidel Castro? Obviously it was someone you trusted implicitly. Obviously it was someone who provided you with information before that you trusted. Who was it?

What do you know, and when did you know it?

BTW, where the heck is the FBI?

To show how dumb D. Rather is, he is from Texas, still he disregarded that old axiom everyone knows: "Don't mess with Texas."

That is the DirtyUnderwear defense, they are absolutely genuine unless Karl Rove faked them. They came from within the DNC; no other source would be trusted. Kerry was taking too much flak from the Swift Vets.

The Democrats have repeatedly tried to dredge up this "Bush was AWOL" story. Michael Moore is trumpeting it again on his website (and has not discussed the controversy).

Purely a Democrat story. Bush/Rove/The RNC/Swift Vets/VRWC have not shown any interest in trying to keep that story in the press and have adequately disproven it. The liberal elites have seriously underestimated the new media.

The left tried to smear FR when the gag photo of John Kerry with Jane Fonda was ever so briefly posted here. They also used the news of the "fake" photo to discredit the existence of the genuine shot. Leftist Snopes was quick to put that online on their site (in violation of Corbis' licensing arrangement) yet they have not touched this story as of yet.

NNNaaaaa, they saw that Michael Moore could do it and get away with it, so why not? Also, what most don't know is that BOTH Dan Rather AND 60 Minutes actually have a LONG DOCUMENTED HISTORY OF THIS which I will be putting out in a few days.

They have also falsified documents before. AND BEEN CAUGHT!! Only last time, they "settled out of court" and made it go away.

This time, I'm pushing the lawsuit, and I AIN'T GOIN' AWAY! I am blessed, and it is worth more than millions to me to have the DNC exposed in this directly. Ala, Watergate to Rathergate!!!

See the first legal documents that have been sent to CBS via Fax today (as a courtesy of course :)
