Please Pray for a Fading Soldier

My step-dad, Wendall, is dying in the hospital tonight. He has lived a good long life, has suffered much over the last two years and is ready to move on. He's had the opportunity to tell each of us in the family good-bye, knows Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and is as well prepared to pass on as any man I've ever met.
Wendall was a Sergeant in the 296th Combat Engineer Battalion, VII US Corps during WWII. He landed at Normandy on D+2 and wound up at Bad Berka, Germany at the end of the war. He had never spoken of his service until one day about three years ago. While watching a football game together, he suddenly began to talk, and three hours later, had recounted his World War II experience. I got an atlas out and took notes.
He saw combat and built bridges. Carentan, Sedan, Bouillon, Florenville, Verviers, Monschau, Bad Berka, Buchenwald, Berlin. He was stationed close to Malmedy and remembered the dread he felt when he learned about the massacre during the Battle of the Bulge. He entered the Buchenwald concentration camp the day after it was liberated. His unit helped to take the residents of Bad Berka to Buchenwald. Under orders, they turned this area over to the Russians and moved on to Berlin, where I've heard that they entered the city three days before any other American unit.
Tonight, I ask for your prayers for this good man, who served his country with honor, his family with steadfastness and love, and God with a humble and generous spirit.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You tearful thanks for the life of a Dad who now rejoices in Your presence. How remarkable the simplicity of a life well-lived ... that a beloved son can convey the heart of his Dad with "he was a wonderful man." Surround Fracas and his family with the comfort of Your presence, O God, for a light has gone from their household, yet just beyond the shadows, this much-loved American Hero is bathed in eternal sunshine. May Your Name be praised forever, Amen ...

God Speed,
I have been there with you. I lost my father another WWII vet 4 years ago. It is so painful to lose them but you know there is going to be many a joyous reunion on the other side. I know my dad rejoined my mother who had passed in 1982 after a 40+ year marriage.
May he be embraced with a resounding "Welcome home faithful servant" when his time comes.
My prayers for you and your family at this time. Hold in your heart , this is not our true home.

Psalm 91
"Soldier's Prayer" He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
Surely He will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked
If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the Lord, who is my refuge then
no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
you will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
"Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him,
for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."
God Bless
