Caddell: Dan Rather May Have Cost Kerry the Election

Longtime Democratic strategist Pat Caddell said Friday that if documents aired by CBS newsman Dan Rather Wednesday night turn out to be forged, as alleged by experts, the presidential race "is over."

"It would be the end of the race," Caddell told Fox News Live. "It would be the end of the race," he repeated. "[Democratic officials are] so involved in this," the former Carter pollster worried. "They have gotten themselves so involved in this issue [in] the last 24 hours that somebody's going to, if they're not authentic, they're going to be blamed for it. It's incredible to me that they've gotten in this." Caddell said he wasn't trying to sensationalize the issue, explaining that instead "I'm trying to save my party, you know, by telling the truth."

He said that forfeiting the presidential race would be the least of his party's problems if Democrats are tied to any forgery scandal.

"The race is over – and we've got bigger problems than that," he warned.

Hmmm... just a couple of days after the 90 minute Clinton/Kerry chat. Didn't take long for the Clinton operatives to 'help' Kerry reeel good!

What makes it such a hoot is that Kerry called him!

Well the intelligent voters for Kerry are waiting for the next shifting of the polls. The polls are more of a representation of the media's viewpoint which is largely center-based, with fluctuations from time to time based upon current headlines. Most voters already have their minds made up, and I would guess the real difference between the candidates at any given time is probably more like 1-2%, something even FOX news seems to confirm.

I agree, Caddell is credible. Look for more RAT candidates to have 'pressing engagements' at the far side of their state when Kerry comes calling.

I saw part of it and was delighted to see republicans coming out of the woodwork at long last. We knew they were there all along, they just didn't want to be blacklisted. I forgot... RATs wouldn't do a thing like that.

Cadell is one of the shrewdedt Dems ever.
He seems to lack the ruthlessness and dishonest to be a top dem consultant these days.

"The Democrat Party is a Criminal Enterprise."

I think a fellow FREEPer has that in a marquee banner he/she posts once in a while.

How mad must the good, rational Democrats be that the liberals and socialist have taken over their party?

I cut bait on the Democratic party 15 years ago... I wonder how many others will finally wake up and smell the stench of a liberal death spiral..As wrong as they were back then- This isn't your Father's Democratic party.

Journalists won't reveal their sources (the rats), so the rats won't have to admit they stole the documents.

Not normally, but they will nark out a phoney source that plants things, if they think it's their only chance of survival.

I'm not falling for the old rope-a-dope. I plan on recruiting votes for President Bush till Nov. 2!

Good plan. be sure to urge every democrat you know to encourage all democrats to vote on their election day, Nov.11th.

My soul roars in delight...

and then, I remember: Hillary waits in the wings, to step in and "save" the party/"give the voters a real choice" a-la New Jersey 2002.

It would have been better if these forgeries were not exposed for at least another 24hrs giving 'rats a whole day of sound bites to hang themselves with.

Think Tom Harkin x100.

Edwards is calling for President Bush to address the charges contained therein. Question: What did Edwards know and when did he know it?

I saw this interview on TV and I just stood there in my living room watching this guy say those things.

If only more democrats could see this writing on the wall. If CBS goes down over this .. they're going to take a lot of democrats with them.

Democrats never look down the road to see what the consequences of their actions might be. They live for the "gotcha" TODAY and the hell with tomorrow!! This may be an example of where that attitude will bite them badly.

In 1992 when it got into the public consciousness that Clintoon was going to win THEN the polls started to really turn. Many of the People magazine reading sheeple just follow the crowd.

The most important thing we can do is to continue to hound CBS and its advertisers until the forgery is admitted by Rather and his sources revealed.

Edwards is just being the shameless shill that North Carolinans had the wisdom to become enamored by.

I don't expect the forgeries to be traced back to anybody of significance at the DNC. I don't think Kerry and Edwards had anything to do with it, either. They are just deflecting - as are much of the talking heads - to the point "well, it's the allegations in the documents that matter, not the document's legitimacy."

That's an absurd position, but the Dems are an absurd party. And Edwards is an absurd man. So there you go.

Under any standard of law, a lie does not get first amendment protection.

I'll bet you also feel that a President that lies under oath should be impeached.........

While I agree with you and feel that people and public figures need to act ethically, most of the Democrat I know don't see things that way. They are far more concerned with empathy than with ethics.

This is a culture war and we need to understand that the other side just doesn't care about truth, they only care about winning and gaining power.
