The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Muslim group takes responsibility for 9-11: 'We are so sorry'

This September 11 marks the third unforgettable anniversary of the worst mass murder in American history.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9-11 terrorist acts and that we have an enormous problem with extremism and support for terrorism. Many Muslims, including religious leaders, and "intellectuals" blamed 9-11 on a Jewish conspiracy and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on 9-11. Yet others blamed 9-11 on an American right wing conspiracy or the U.S. Government which allegedly wanted an excuse to invade Iraq and "steal" Iraqi oil.

Thanks for the list AD. As the election nears, it's best to be prepared for anything. For the TM record, the fruit vendor was not there today.

Yes, he's been at his usual spot outside Penn Station. The only exception was during the convention.

You might want to check the vacuum sealed tuna fish. This is marketed as the single lunch portions & requires no refrigeration. It usually lasts for around 5 years and is high in protein. Living in the Midwest w/ snow storms, it does not hurt to keep some around.

This flight is still in the air. Don't know if this has already been posted, but my radar is a little sensitive, today being 10/12 and all...

"Bomb Threat to Chicago Bound Plane
Source: Associated Press | 9:32:21 AM EST

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- A Dutch broadcaster said Tuesday it received an e-mail claiming a bomb was on a plane from Amsterdam to Chicago, but authorities determined no emergency landing was necessary and police were investigating the threat.

Flight SK3909, a Scandinavian Airlines flight operated by United Airlines, with 117 passengers and a crew of 11 aboard, was expected to land in Chicago at 1:22 p.m. CDT (2:22 p.m. EDT), United spokeswoman Robin Urbanski said.

"It's being dealt with by authorities and we are cooperating fully," Urbanski said.

United received the report of the e-mail threat about one hour and 45 minutes into the flight, she said, adding that the airline was in contact with the plane's crew.

Authorities decided after "an initial analysis" not to ask the pilots to make an emergency landing or change their schedule, Dutch national police spokesman Bart Coppens said.

The broadcaster, RTV Noord-Holland, said the e-mail appeared to have been sent from an address in Germany, and it had notified police.

In September and October, false bomb threats have forced at least half a dozen flights to make emergency landings in Europe.

The Sept. 26 diversion of an Athens-to-New York Olympic Airlines flight to London under military jets' escort was the first of a flurry of threat-related emergency landings around Europe.

Others have included two more Olympic Airlines flights, a Frankfurt, Germany-to-New York Singapore Airlines plane, a Lufthansa flight to Tel Aviv, and a Berlin-to-London British Airways jet. The Lufthansa and British Airways planes landed with military escorts.

Also, a Frankfurt-to-Chicago United Airlines flight that landed in London because of mechanical problems was later unable to take off because of a security threat.

In none of the cases was a bomb found on board.

Besides alarming passengers and tangling schedules, the threats are costly to airlines, which in some cases must dump fuel, put up passengers at hotels, and pay fees to airports for landing and servicing related to a diversion."

I know what you mean.

Thanks for this report. Just heard it on local news. Plane is scheduled to land about 1:00pm central.

Isn't it wonderful to know that since "threats are costly to airlines", emergency landings to check out a bomb threat are a thing of the past.

Why would this story be reported before it lands?

How close is the airport in Chicago to the city? I was wondering whether they may divert it anyway to a less populated area.

I wondered about the same thing. Imagine if you had a friend or relative on that flight! I thought ususally these things were only reported after landing.

Demonstrating the nuisance factor? LOL, I don't know, really.

I wonder if the passengers know what is going on. If they don't, they may get calls from loved ones on the ground causing great anxiety to the passengers.

Local news only mentioned the story once so far, guess it's not a big deal. /sarcasm

O'Hare airport is about 15 to 20 miles north and slighly west of the heart of the city.

Maybe they are trying to get the media's attention? It concerned me a little that the email to the journalist came from Germany, a hotbed of terrorist activity and staging post for many major al-qaeda attacks.

On dialysis, if I remember correctly, the weight you gain is water weight. If Bin Laden's gained weight, I'd guess he'd look a little puffy ... especially around the cheeks.

The good news is ... I don't think gaining water weight when you're on dialysis is an especially good sign.

The other news is ... maybe he managed to get a kidney transplant, since he probably has access to the best medical treatment in Iran? Pakistan? Wherever ....

Update

AMSTERDAM — The bomb threat made against a Chicago-bound flight that departed from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Tuesday was a hoax and the plane will not make an emergency landing, Dutch military police said.

A Dutch local broadcaster RTL Holland said on Tuesday it had received an email warning that a bomb was on board the United Airlines/Scandinavian Airlines flight that departed from Amsterdam soon after 11am.

United Airlines and Dutch authorities initially took the threat very seriously, but, military police later decided to allow the plane to fly uninterrupted to its destination.

The decision was based on a risk analysis conducted after the bomb threat was made. The analysis examined passenger details, the baggage onboard and the check-in procedure, newspaper

De Telegraaf reported.

Military police informed authorities in the Netherlands and internationally about the threat, such as those in the US and the countries that the plane will pass overhead.

The email — suspected to have been sent from Germany — said in English: "Bomb to America". It then said in Dutch: "Flight SK3909 from Amsterdam to Chicago has a bomb for Iraq. America will see. Message for you".

RTV Noord Holland immediately alerted police after receiving the message at about midday. Flight SK 3909 flew above Ireland at 12.45pm.

I don't see how they can be so confident it is a hoax. Since the message only arrived after the plane took off they can't have searched it. Only time will tell with this one.

Thanks for the updated.
