Update

AMSTERDAM — The bomb threat made against a Chicago-bound flight that departed from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on Tuesday was a hoax and the plane will not make an emergency landing, Dutch military police said.

A Dutch local broadcaster RTL Holland said on Tuesday it had received an email warning that a bomb was on board the United Airlines/Scandinavian Airlines flight that departed from Amsterdam soon after 11am.

United Airlines and Dutch authorities initially took the threat very seriously, but, military police later decided to allow the plane to fly uninterrupted to its destination.

The decision was based on a risk analysis conducted after the bomb threat was made. The analysis examined passenger details, the baggage onboard and the check-in procedure, newspaper

De Telegraaf reported.

Military police informed authorities in the Netherlands and internationally about the threat, such as those in the US and the countries that the plane will pass overhead.

The email — suspected to have been sent from Germany — said in English: "Bomb to America". It then said in Dutch: "Flight SK3909 from Amsterdam to Chicago has a bomb for Iraq. America will see. Message for you".

RTV Noord Holland immediately alerted police after receiving the message at about midday. Flight SK 3909 flew above Ireland at 12.45pm.

I don't see how they can be so confident it is a hoax. Since the message only arrived after the plane took off they can't have searched it. Only time will tell with this one.

Thanks for the updated.

Here is an article from Oct 6th in which a person used similar language in their threat against another plane.

Hoax Bomb Threats Pose Dilemma For Airlines

LONDON -- In these days of jittery travel, sometimes just a phone call can ground an airplane. Over the past week and a half, false bomb threats have forced at least half a dozen flights to make emergency landings in Europe, frightening passengers, tangling schedules and costing airlines big money.

...A number of the calls were received in Germany, which could indicate they are from the same person, he said. Threats have been received by German police, a Munich television station and a Lufthansa office, authorities and those called have said.

The first Olympic diversion was prompted by a call to an Athens newspaper. "Flight 411 Olympic for America has a bomb for Iraq," a caller to the Ethnos daily said, according to a tape the newspaper made public. In a second call, a voice that sounded like a different person said, "Are you listening? Flight 411 Olympic for America, bomb. America will see. Six o'clock message for you." http://www.thedenverchannel.com/travelgetaways/3787269/detail.html

"The bomb threat made against a Chicago-bound flight that departed from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam..."

I am 6 miles due east of O'Hare. I am waiting for this flight to check in with Chicago ATC. I am monitoring Chicago Fire as well to see if they will be waiting for the arrival.
