UPDATE 12: In the August 18, 1973 memo "discovered" by 60 Minutes, Jerry Killian purportedly writes:
Staudt has obviously pressured Hodges more about Bush. I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job. But wait! Reader Amar Sarwal points out that General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt. Bush, retired in 1972.
The more I look at these "memos," the more obvious it appears that they are inept forgeries.

Let's see. We can't use the peacock for our symbol.
How about an Eagle!!! Yeah, a big mean Eagle beating up a donkey. Yeah, really kickin' A$$!
Just keep pulling on that string! :)
Thank you for answering it! :)

Ask just what "investigation" went into authenticating the memos and whether they will offer an on-air retraction.
Demand they apologize for this EXTREME lapse of journalistic practice and basic skills.
Also, contact the president of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:
Phone: (212) 975-4321
Fax: (212) 975-1893
Woo Hoo! The truth always rises to the top (or is it that the crap always sinks to the bottom?). Either way, good and welcome news.
So when can we expect 60 lyin' stinkin' minutes to air a substantial apology?
:^D
At a minimum, CBS must disclose the name of the document examiner (if there was one). That is a small profession and the good ones all know each other.
The funny thing is this was investigated by a "handwriting" analysis. Uhm..... weren't these documents typed???? ssssshhhhh
I think that refers to Killian's signatures. CBS is sticking by their story which includes PDFs of the actual memos.
Thanks for the ping. I love the smell of desperation in the morning...smells like - VICTORY.
How about an Eagle!!! Yeah, a big mean Eagle beating up a donkey. Yeah, really kickin' A$$!
LOL! I like it!
And the '73 one is the one that has Staudt pressuring Killian to "sugar coat" Bush's final OETR.
Also tell them that once these voters heard that the story was based on forged documents, they got extremely angry and told you they are sick of all the dirty tricks and are voting for Bush. Now, they won't talk to you at all.
Unbelievable. Thanks for the ping.
Now, isn't that more accurate?
"I have read the minds of all those who were involved...so I know what is really true. I have also personally witnessed a seance where those who are no longer alive have come back to report the truth about Bush."
How dare you question me and 60 Minutes!
Men in white jackets were seen entering Rather's lavish dressing room at CBS as we completed our interview. Minutes later, Rather was removed from the room clinging to a 1972 IBM Selectric typewriter, screaming..."from my cold, dead hands you will!"
ROTFLOL!!!!
Priceless!!
LOL!!!

RE: Attempted Bush Smear Job on Sixty Minutes II
Dear Mr. Heyward:
It is imperative that you take some massive action against the news department at your company. The willingness of this team to abandon their journalistic integrity in the pursuit of a partisan smear campaign is inexcusable under any circumstances. The fact that this is an obvious pattern of behavior against a decent man who happens to be the President of our country at War, is despicable.
Who is running your company, Dan Rather, Terry McAuliffe, or you?
I would have been willing to contain my anger at your company if you had done the decent thing and at least acknowledged in your broadcast tonight that there was a controversy over the truthfulness of some of the documents presented last night. Instead, you are ignoring the issue and this means that you are continuing to do damage to the Presidents reputation, as well as inflaming the passions against the President by people who are willing to believe any lies about him, regardless of whether there is a shred of truth or not.
I hope you will get to the bottom of this and see that heads roll. Dan Rather should be at the top of your list, he is a proud partisan and it is taking down the reputation of your network news division. As President, you should act decisively to remove this cancer from your company.
Sincerely,
Rob XXXXX
Oh I can't stop laughing!!
Thanks for the ping!
