General Staudt was retired!
Powerline ^ | Sept 9 2004 | Big Trunk

Posted on 09/09/2004 4:34:07 PM PDT by Dog

UPDATE 12: In the August 18, 1973 memo "discovered" by 60 Minutes, Jerry Killian purportedly writes:

Staudt has obviously pressured Hodges more about Bush. I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job. But wait! Reader Amar Sarwal points out that General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt. Bush, retired in 1972.

The more I look at these "memos," the more obvious it appears that they are inept forgeries.

I just sent CBS a nasty email telling them I would start contacting sponsors and complaining if they don't either retract the forged documents story or do some followup on this situation. One person won't matter to them but if we Freeped them good it might make a difference. I added a PS and told them Rather might as well wear a Kerry-Edwards T-Shirt to work. I have never seen such a slanted journalist.

See 301. I posted before I was finished. (old age catching up with me, I guess). What I was really doing was calling your attention to my "almost permanent" tagline.

The IBM Selectric ball type electric typewriter could do proportional print but not the super script shown on the "document". I believe a typesetter would be the only one that could produce the document as it is shown in 1972.

God Bless ya, Jim. And to all my FReeper brethren. I may never meet any of you in person, but I am proud to call you friends.

Amen. And good on all y'all FReepers.

Before hightailing it out of DC, I was a policy wonk, working with some big names on behalf of the 'little people.' Some of the policy issues I covered were the Internet and political participation. But what these wonks really wanted was to tell people what they should read and what was authoritative (particularly how MSM was going to create and maintain control of online news), with the result being that everyone would just 'naturally' come to agree on what was right (as long as it was left, of course)

It just thrills me to see outlets such as FR standing the wonks and the MSM on their ears. Almost everything they thought about the Net was wrong. The only thing they got right was their fear that power would be in the hands of the people.
