Text of memos about Bush suspension

By The Associated Press  |  September 9, 2004

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Here are the texts of four memos indicating George W. Bush was suspended from flying during the Vietnam war because he failed to meet Texas Air National Guard standards and did not take his annual flight physical as required. Copies of the memos were provided by the White House.

Yep, they're lying.

This is the PDF of the 'originals', on the AP web site, at http://wid.ap.org/documents/bush/040908xfer.pdf. Look at the top of each page. Think the White House faxes documents with a letterhead that says 'CBS NEWS'?

Who has declared these memos to be forgeries? Freepers, or some official source?

---Is this fogging to make everyone confused. ---

You got it! The story becomes too complicated for the average news consumer to grasp and they turn it off.

IT'S A LIE:

From the Washington Post this morning:

Documents obtained by the CBS News program "60 Minutes" shed new light on one of the most controversial episodes in Bush's military service, when he abruptly stopped flying and moved from Texas to Alabama to work on a political campaign. The documents include a memo from Bush's squadron commander, Lt. Col. Jerry B. Killian, ordering Bush "to be suspended from flight status for failure to perform" to U.S. Air Force and National Guard standards and failure to take his annual physical "as ordered."

The new documents surfaced as the Bush administration released for the first time the president's personal flight logs, which have been the focus of repeated archival searches and Freedom of Information Act requests dating to the 2000 presidential campaign. The logs show that Bush stopped flying in April 1972 after accumulating more than 570 hours of flight time between 1969 and 1972, much of it on an F-102 interceptor jet.

--snip--

A spokeswoman for "60 Minutes," Kelli Edwards, declined to say exactly how the new documents were obtained other than that CBS News understood they had been taken from Killian's "personal office file." In addition to the order to Bush to report for a physical, the documents include various memos from Killian describing his conversations with Bush and other National Guard officers about Bush's attempts to secure a transfer to Alabama. Killian died in 1984.

Also, from Powerline:

Kevin Drum:
UPDATE: I now have copies of the memos the White House released, and they are just versions that CBS faxed to the White House the day before the 60 Minutes segment aired. There's no indication that the White House had its own copies of these memos and had been sitting on them.

Apologies.

Source.

"All I can say to AP is BooooBooooBooooooo and you can quote me..."

I am sure they could "hear" your "booing" even if it was only typed on a forum board. Question is, did anyone try to stop you, hmmmm?

It's absurd on its surface. That's like saying Nixon staged the Watergate tapes and handed them over to Deep Throat. What is going on at AP?

I want the name of the 'journalist' that sent this report. Certainly Hays isn't the only liar on their staff, but these people should be willing to stand by their words.

At this stage, just about the entire world. Of course, FReepers started it all, but you can now find expert testimony referenced in many threads.

What do you mean by 'official source', anyway?

"Its a non-story."

I agree it's a non-story. It also pales in comparison to Kerry's actions, his testimony from his own lips after the War and voting record over the years. Kerry needs to TRY to windsurf into oblivion. Dems picked the Wrong Candidate.

Is this fogging to make everyone confused.

Of course. The forgeries were quickly exposed, so now the WH is the "source" of them to provide Rather/CBS with cover.

Bush complained bitterly that the Pentagon sent his documents to CBS before sending them to the White House.

Did you make that up????

This is starting to sound like the debate over the alleged Roswell "Majik" documents from the early 1950's - debates over military usages, fonts, typewriter features, etc.

What I would love to see is a grassroots effort to distribute and disseminate (Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage could help) the devastating testimony of the POWs from the documentary "Sotlen Honor."

Kerry couldn't recover from it. Watching solid, credible, salt of the Earth patriots like the POWs use the T word to describe what Kerry did in '71 is deadly. Someone should send Dan Rather a copy of that and see if Dan doesn't pull a Boorda.

Judy Woodruff right now going on and on and on about Bush's suspicious military record. Doesn't anyone tell her what's going on?

The WH releasing damaging FORGED documents doesn't make sense to me. If you're going to forge a document it would be something to make yourself look better, right?

Hello,

Earlier today , as I was watching the New Media (FR and others) uncover this story, I marveled at the age we live in. Of course, we face dangers, it is far from perfect. But never, in the history of mankind, has there been a tool as powerful as the Internet. The Big Lie is losing its' effectiveness. The combined knowledge of hundreds, even thousands can be accessed almost instantly to judge what we are being told by the Old Media. It is simply amazing!

Glad to be here, MOgirl

Yes, of course.

President Bush would forge documents that cast aspersions on his character and credibility because he's running for a second term as President.

I'm sorry, maybe it's just me, but I can't figure for the life of me how AP is going to "nuance" this to exonerate CBS and Ratherbiased.

Right. You forge documents that make you look bad and then leak them to the press. What flawless logic!
