PITTSBURGH (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney's remark that ``the wrong choice'' by voters could result in another terrorist attack was ``a sleazy and despicable effort to blackmail voters with fear,'' Al Gore said Thursday.
The former vice president criticized the Bush-Cheney administration - which he repeatedly called the Bush-Halliburton administration - for their ``failed record'' on the economy, health care and the war in Iraq during a speech before about 200 supporters at the headquarters of the United Steelworkers of America.
``The claim by Bush and Cheney that the American people must give them four more years in office or else be 'hit hard' by another terrorist attack is a sleazy and despicable effort to blackmail voters with fear,'' Gore said.
``They are going back to the ugliest page in the Republican playbook: fear,'' he said. ``They're not even really trying to convince you to vote for George Bush. Their only hope, they've decided, is to try and make you too afraid to vote for John Kerry. It's the lowest sort of politics imaginable. It is not worthy of a presidential candidate.''
Cheney told supporters in Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday that, if Kerry were elected, the United States risked falling back into a ``pre-9/11 mind-set'' that terrorist attacks are criminal acts that require a reactive approach.
``It's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on Nov. 2, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we'll get hit again and we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States,'' Cheney said.
Gore joined other Democrats, including Kerry and running mate John Edwards, in condemning Cheney's statement. President Bush declined to discuss the issue with reporters on Wednesday. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheney was talking about differences in how Bush and Kerry would approach the war on terror.
If Al's audiences get any smaller, he'll soon be playing the bar at the Horseshoe in Vegas.
"He betrayed this country! (Drool, spit, slather) He played on our fears...!"
"extra-chromosome Right Wing"
"No controlling legal authority..."
Whadda clymer.
If Al's audiences get any smaller, he'll soon be playing the bar at the Horseshoe in Vegas.Good one! : )
We should listen to Gore he is an expert on sleazy.
This from the guy who said Bush's religion was like that of the Taliban?
So what does he think of the remarks over the past year calling President Bush "liar" and "Hitler" and other slanders?
Al Gore's life basically stopped on December 12, 2000. He nearly destroyed the country in the 5 weeks prior to that so there is little sympathy for his lost-in-time anger.
Those NAACP ads that ran in the last election trying to tie Bush in with the Jasper, Texas truck dragging is proof of that.
Always look at what they are accusing you of, to see what they indeed are doing.
Lastly, no 527s should create ads hurtful to John Kerry, as that would prove beyond a doubt that there was improper collusion (at the highest levels) between Bush and the offending organization.
So long as Democrats continue to live in their fantasy September 10th world, they will put us at additional risk of terrorist attack. Dick Cheney is right on the mark.
Even John Kerry acts like it's September 10th, 2001. The stupid bastard goes on about how he'll defend America if we're ever attacked. HELL-OOOOO!! We've already been attacked! It was on September 11th, 2001! And the last thing we need is a President who'll be "stunned" for 40 minutes (as was the case with the idiot Kerry).
Through all this AND OUR WATCH, the Dems got their dream wish...Regime change in Iraq....a chief goal of the Dems put forth over and over. But, all talk and no action brings no results.
What we're doing now could have been done (and should have been done after the first hit on the Towers.
We're watching the Iraqis going the extra step and opt for elected representatives, i.e., no dictator.
And we've gone even further beyond the Dems dreams. Afghanistan will soon elect their government leaders.
Both were conquered people.....conquered by fear, conquered by poverty and no where to go.
Remember always: We're the good guys trying to give some people in the world a fair chance. God Bless America, its' people and OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS!!
And so, maybe Kerry is right. We should have gone after Afghanistan and Iraq before they built themselves up....and that would have been on THEIR WATCH!!
* It reminded people that Kerry is weak (on terror & period)
* It keeps terrorism the subject of conversation, rather than something gay like health care
* Every Democrat response just reminds people that Kerry is weak
* It got Al Gore to come out of his hole and drag down Kerry even more

And this differs from the Dem tactics of terrifying old people into believing they'll have no social security/Medicare/be forced into eating cat food, telling women that they'll be "forced" into completing their pregancies, telling kids they'll have no education, telling blacks they'll "be returned to slavery" exactly *how*?
Perhaps the Dums are just annoyed that somebody else is using their election "playbook".
I see Al still has his head up in some dark place, placing a hugh limit on his vision.
