New Questions On Bush Guard Duty
CBS) The military records of the two men running for president have become part of the political arsenal in this campaign – a tool for building up, or blowing up, each candidate’s credibility as America's next commander-in-chief.
While Sen. Kerry has been targeted for what he did in Vietnam, President Bush has been criticized for avoiding Vietnam by landing a spot in the Texas Air National Guard - and then failing to meet some of his obligations.
Did then-Lt. Bush fulfill all of his military obligations? And just how did he land that spot in the National Guard in the first place? Correspondent Dan Rather has new information on the president’s military service – and the first-ever interview with the man who says he pulled strings to get young George W. Bush into the Texas Air National Guard.

But 60 Minutes has obtained a number of documents we are told were taken from Col. Killian's personal file. Among them, a never-before-seen memorandum from May 1972, where Killian writes that Lt. Bush called him to talk about "how he can get out of coming to drill from now through November."
Lt. Bush tells his commander "he is working on a campaign in Alabama…. and may not have time to take his physical." Killian adds that he thinks Lt. Bush has gone over his head, and is "talking to someone upstairs."
Col. Killian died in 1984. 60 Minutes consulted a handwriting analyst and document expert who believes the material is authentic.

However, I learned how to properly format a radio message per US Army protocol and handled many of them during the time of my participation.
I don't recall ever seeing a message (and would never have originated one) that had a date like "14 May, 1972" in it. The comma is not regulation and, as far as I know, would never have been inserted. (This would absolutely be the case when handling messages in Morse code, as many were in those days.)
I am going to assume that in other military communications the same rule would apply. However, if you review the document labeled "Memo 1- 1972" in the article, you'll see that the [forger?] didn't understand this aspect of military protocol.
I would appreciate it if an ex- or present serviceman could corroborate this.
(Also, please note that the "comma-in-date" does not occur in the other documents.)

When I was a teenager, I watched a news event occur. Then I watched "60 Minutes" portray it. They lied and lied.

I just got out my dad's old Air Force records (originals) and all the dates have no commas (14 MAY 1972) I also notice that his orders were not written on letter head, just plain paper.

I have been a software developer for over 20 years. For a period of several years I specialized in the development of laser printer forms, fonts, and the like using languages specific to the machines. I can speak as an expert witness on this topic. Proportional fonts were not available outside of a professional print shop prior to the mid eighties. All computer printers printed in fixed width fonts. The equipment and software to handle proportional fonts and superscripts were not available at that time unless you had access to a printing press.

I've said it before, I'll say it again...my life changed the day I started lurking here...I never listened to the media the same way again. FR taught me how to pick apart and sift what they were saying.
Heck, I even do it with commercials, now!
And what I love the most is, my jedis are learning to do it too...big mainstream media can't lie and get away with it any more.

These docs were not created by a Selectric, which did not output proportional spaced type.

Good info.. but the one thing that I've not heard debunked is that other documents credited to the supposed author of these 'documents' do not exhibit these characteristics, (proportional fonts..etc..)
Are you suggesting that Killian used an IBM Selectric Composer, a professional typesetting machine?
Was he a professional typesetter using his own typesetting machine at work?
