In the 1970s, every typewriter I used was one of those big black manuals, and I was in aerospace. Government lagged behind all technology in anything that had to do with paperwork, didn't think it necessary to upgrade perfectly good equipment for some newfangled gizmos. We used carbon paper back then!!!! If there were copy machines, I sure didn't have them in my offices.

Excellent point...especially an ANG unit! Records might be available somewhere on microfiche or ledger of what typwriters were being purchased by the contracting agency in that timeframe.

I used to be in Contracting in the Air Force (a buyer), and things like this don't change often. Likely, there was research done to approve a typewriter model, and that's all that was bought for all the units under a certain command for YEARS. Surely a couple records of those purchases could be found.

Actually, the MTST didn't do the proportional spacing. Running the MTST tape on the Composer was where the magic happened. It did great work -- beautiful.
