October Surprise
News Central ^ | Sept 8, 2004 | Mark Hyman

Posted on 09/08/2004 6:39:01 PM PDT by Angry Republican

October Surprise is a term ascribed to a political revelation that is meant to affect the outcome of a presidential election. Former Jimmy Carter staffer Gary Sick, alleged that Ronald Reagan sprung an October Surprise by secretly negotiating with Iran to keep Americans held hostage in the U.S. Embassy until after the election was over, thereby costing Carter a second term. Absurd was the word that described Sick's silly conspiracy theory.

But October Surprises have occurred. In the last election, an Al Gore campaign operative leaked word to the press that a young George Bush was stopped on suspicion of drunk driving years earlier. It undoubtedly cost Bush thousands of votes.

Both the Kerry and Bush campaigns are likely bracing for October Surprise revelations this year. But the most likely October Surprise may come from forces abroad. Homeland Security believes Al Qaeda is planning a major fall attack.

Last March, Al Qaeda-linked terrorists set off 10 bombs on a commuter train in Spain, killing nearly 200 and injuring more than a thousand. The plan was to cost the then-current government, which had been tough on terrorism, the upcoming election. The plan worked and a new prime minister weak on defense took office.

Al Qaeda is likely looking to repeat its success in America. The terrorist leaders would dearly love to see President Bush replaced with Senator Kerry who has a weak Senatorial record when it comes to national defense and fighting terrorism. But launching an October Surprise attack may reawaken Americans to the terrorist threats we face and it could affect a November election outcome that would surprise Al Qaeda leaders.

And that's the Point.

Personally I fear that a nuke at this point would serve as the opening bell in a dirty war of ethnic, ideological and political cleansing waged by both sides. Would we hang together. No.

John "V" Kerry now admits he was at the VVAW Executive Steering Committee Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri from November 12-15, 1971

This was John "V" Kerry's
first US Senate vote.

Kerry claims he voted "Nay".

Isn't that special!

. If something along this line does happen will Hitlery be arrested for prior knowlage? After all the Queen B!$ch has said that something would happen in Oct. that will effect this election. Personally if it does I would like to see her hauled away in cuffs.

If the Terrorists attack the homeland in an attempt to get a wishy washy guy like Kerry elected they will not win. The US is not EUROPE, we don't cowar in fear from terrorists... afraid they will target us if we prosecute them..... We will beat them back just as we have the communists and the nazis and the facists and empirial Japan... etc etc etc....

What plays in Europe doesn't play here.... sort of the reason we told the old world to get bent a long time ago.

You know, I can't remember from which of Hanson's essays I took that one. Must've been in a hurry. It was a recent piece on NRO, I think.

This man's perception and moral clarity are nothing short of breathtaking, though.

Hey--in that Kansas City pic, the babe on the right in the trench coat looks just like Elizabeth Edwards.

Did she hang out with Kerry and his hippie rat friends 30 years ago?

I am still angered about the ridiculous big deal the press made of President Bush's DUI. They went on a feeding frenzy for nothing. Yet the fact that the dem wit candidate is a man who consorted with the enemy during wartime is no big deal to them.

I found it on the History News Network. I Googled on the exact phrase "Victor Davis Hanson" and the word "totalitarianism"; it was the fourth hit returned. The actual quote is about a third of the way down the page.

Apparently, it was an interview which first appeared in Frontpage magazine.

This man's perception and moral clarity are nothing short of breathtaking, though.

Agreed.

"What, like saying Laura Bush used and sold drugs in college? That George W. Bush did coke at Camp David?"

Its gone so over the top that it has become a farce. I talk to very apolitical people at work who are leaning towards Bush just because the attacks are so obvious and so fake.

Kerry's (the DNC's) Oct. surprise? Let your imagination run wild; I'm sure they will while ignoring the realities and events of the world.

Bush's Oct. surprise? He'll be on the job as will his administration.

The real Oct. surprise may come from the US Navy IG inspections of Kerry's service records, Swiftvets exposing more of Kerry's dubious 4 month service and all VN vets (save his band of brothers) raging against his betrayal of our country, its vets and its cause. Kerry had sown the seed for an Oct. surprise decades ago.

Don't sweat it, my good fellow. Word has it that the nice folks (or, if you like, unruly pissants with bad karma) at Sacred Cow Burgers are going to have a LOT of "October Surprises" for the Kerry goons and their minions. No stone will be left unturned, no pretentious twit will be left unflamed, and no pantywaisted Leftist will go un-wedgied.

In short, we're gonna have some fun between now and November 2nd!     >: )

Of course, that begs the question of why Bush elected to leave so many of the Clinton un-dead in place to begin with. Top it off with Hillary's surprisingly emphatic remark about the election's outcome being determined by an outside event.
