I just heard ex-Gov Moonbeam (Jerry Brown, D-Uranus) on FNC say it was a failure because the deficit is too high and our taxes are too low.I saw Jerry Brown on there too. At the time, I wondered out loud to my son what the hell made him an expert pundit on this subject. Like you said, he used the time to basically bash our president. What is FOXNEWs thinking??????

I just talked to one of the guys who built the satellite. There still may be some hope for salvaging some of the data. Thanks for that. Appreciate all of your inside insights!

The mission never happened, it was all filmed in some Hollywood backlot, that explains the stunt men don'cha know.

I saw that pic of the capsule stuck in the ground with the guy filming it and thought: Why is Micheal Moore filming a half buried frisbee?

We'll blame Prof.Quatermass instead I'm afraid Bernard and the British Rocket Group had nothing to do with this cock-up, old bean.

Isn't that how "Night of the Living Dead" all started? A satellite returned from Venus and hit a graveyard? Is this the part where Worchestershire sauce drips into Kenny's corpse by accident and he becomes a zombie? As usual, South Park is shown to be ahead of its time.

I agree.
Sometimes I think NASA likes to screw up, just so they can show us how creative they can be with disaster recovery solutions.

HAHAHAHA. Work with aerogel much? That stuff won't survive a 10 mph impact, much less a 100+ mph impact. True, but there were several collector materials, not just aerogel. They will have to at least try to salvage something!
See post #132.

Work with aerogel much? That stuff won't survive a 10 mph impact, much less a 100+ mph impact. This wasn't the mission that uses aerogel. Aerogel is on the comet mission, which hasn't returned yet.
On January 2, 2004, Stardust flew within 236 kilometers of Comet Wild 2 and captured thousands of particles in its aerogel collector for return on Earth in January 2006.

Hey, buck-up, privates! The sun'll come up tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar on tomorrow. Launch another one and hope for the best. That's the spirit! After all, we're only talking about tax dollars, which as we all know are in unlimited supply. So let's do it again. Collect those Sun molecules (gosh, I hope they do it at night, when the Sun is cooler).
Or maybe we could do another Mars mission, and determine once and for all whether those rocks are reddish-brown or brownish-red.
