The copters, flown by Hollywood stunt pilots... snatch the capsule's parachute with a hook... before the capsule crashes into Earth, an impact that would shatter the set of fragile disks holding the cosmic evidence.

This never would have happened if Kerry was President.

Quoting from the article:
"...an impact that would shatter the set of fragile disks holding the cosmic evidence."

The short answer: Hell, yeah.

Satellite has been broken.

Virus has been released.

Prepare for zombie mutation spread. It's only a matter of time.

Does that destroy the samples in the capsule?

Certainly not. The samples (equivalent to about 7 grains of salt) will be in great shape right up until the time they smash into the earth at terminal velocity.

Its just a matter of finding them now.

(sorry, sarcasm is coming too easily to me today)

If they would have renewed the AWB, this'd never had happened.

I just don't see anything on Foxnews.com about the mission being a failure.

I didn't either. But, I have a tv capture card running, and can report that the FoxNews station showed picture of capsule on the ground, no helicopter recovery.
