I fear an American child slaughter is planned (Minnesota)
opinion | 8 Sept 04 | FinalApproach29er

An excerpt from Steyn's latest has me suspicious that a slaughter of schoolkids is planned for America soon-maybe before the election.

Here is Steyn excerpt:

Could what happened in Beslan happen in the US? Two months ago, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported on a fellow called Mohamad Kamal Elzahabi, a suspected terrorist who'd fought with his fellow jihadi in Chechnya and somehow wound up in Minnesota, where he'd applied for licences to transport hazardous materials and drive school buses.

***

Now, what if some less suspicious "white-looking" Chechen, or female, or some local recruit(s) starts driving school bus and and shows for work up one day and rigs a bus full of kids with explosives? Background checks can be defeated with enough planning. I doubt the enemy will make the same mistake twice.

We are catching way too many suspects up here in Minneapolis. Wonder if this is happening in your city also?

What no one wants to say is that there is one way, and one way only, to stop all of this nonsense.

I agree...on 9/11/01 I agreed.

What makes you think the Beslan incident did not end in instant justice? Have you seen any pics of live perpetrators?

Masked or no, I guarantee you that any such team of terrorists in the U.S. will die to the man. None will escape, even if it takes quarantining a half mile around the place and vetting every human being allowed to leave the area.
I don't care if they're "prepared" or not. I just want it death guaranteed.

No we shoud not deport Arabs per se. About 40 percent of the Arab population living in the US are Christians who fled the horrible state of dhimmitude in Muslim lands.

The ones we should be deporting are Muslims, who come from a large number of countries ranging from the Phillipines to central Africa. A terrorist recently nabbed after crossing the open border with Mexico was a Muslim woman from South Africa.

As I understand it, the Al-Qaeda 'terrorist instruction manual' contains plans for siezing schools full of children of "infidels" and slaughtering them.

What specifically makes you feel that way? In recent memory, Americans have talked tough but just did what they were told in such a situation.

What makes you think a mob of people will charge a well-armed, homicidal gang?

I don't think an angry mob would charge a terrorist gang armed to the teeth. Fed up or not, where do you get this stuff?

I'll "introspect" while I'm reloading.

8-)

Hopefully it won't come to that.

We join with Russia (now......unfortunately; and only now due to the horrors of the last several days) and we make the following pronouncement to the world:...

I have made similar proposals a few times since 9/11 and would caution against a "nothing or all" approach.
'The most efficient (fewer total lives lost by the time the problem is gone) way to implement the ultimatum is to allow, to the extent possible, each muslim country to reflect on the problem and to solve their own national portion of the problem. After all, it is not reasonable for Morroco to know where all the training camps and terrorist concentration are in Pakistan. It is reasonable to expect that they would know where their domestic terrorists hang out.

Thus my proposal is more "democratic": one sqaure kilometer of each muslim capital will be reduced to rubble for every terrorist act in a non-muslim country, or against a non-muslim target. Beginning with the seat of government (palace buildings, legislature).

It will then be only a matter of time before they must assess how many square kilometers of their capitals they are willing to lose.

What entitles the superpowers to arbitrarily use power to persuade? The fact that they can. That's all that's ever needed. Except in the current distorted world, where PC dictates otherwise and, in the process, enables terrorism.

"If other FReepers actually participated in such drills, I would be interested to know."

As I remember the drills, they were pretty frequent during elementary school and maybe once a month in junior high. Don't remember doing them at all in high school. (1960-1970)

I guess it depends on the locale. Here in NC I don't think anyone would hestitate to use their guns in a case like this.

Could be. I just see talk as cheap and when push comes to shove, it seems that most people just do as their told when it hits the fan.

Now I would expect some unfortunate retaliation against unarmed and innocent Muslims, for example - that kind of reaction is not hard to imagine.

Hope for the best.

Since you're not a newbie, you know better than to post an excerpt from a writer, without a link.

Oh, I get it. Your hysteria is matched by your laziness. Your vanity was all that really counted.

I recall someone going door to door during an election season and asking people their opinion on banning guns. Those who said they believed in strong gun control measures were asked if they would be willing to have an campaign sign in their front yard that said "There are no guns in this home." Not one person was willing to do it. Let's face it, terrorist will never attack a police station because they know there are too many guns. Why can't we give them the same doubts about attacking a school.

If other FReepers actually participated in such drills, I would be interested to know.

We did "Duck & Cover" drills at least monthly when I was in elementary school in Southern California in the early 60's. One time I was in such a hurry to get under my desk I hit my head on it, after the drill they had to call the school nurse because I had knocked myself cold.

It's all a little unnerving isn't it? While I know that homeschooling doesn't keep my son from all peril - it's comforting to know that he's home with me in times like these.

I found it extremely comforting on September 11th, 2001. My eldest would have been in 1st grade public school. Instead, he was home, with me, on my lap.

Every year we take Sept. 11th off from school. We make baked goods and take big platters of stuff to the fire department down the street. We tell them how much we appreciate them.

We remember. We talk about what heros are.

I don't want my son to forget.

Did you actually experience such drills, personally? ...I am not sure they were ever anything but an urban legend.

Not an urban legend. I attended Stonehedge Elementary School in Camillus, NY from 1962-68. We did the drills.

I believe firmly that most Americans should do two things:

1. Take aggressive self defense classes in close quarters combat; and

2. Become armed and trained to use a handgun and rifle.

I am a 1st Dan in Goju-Ryu Karate. My 2-1/2 year old son watches me when I practice at home and has become quite adept at copying my moves. I got started at age 16, dropped it for a while and finally made 1st Dan (1st degree Black Belt) about 5 years ago. I haven't pursued it any further, but will be teaching him what I know and encouraging him to go further. It wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't a 1st Dan by the time he was 16, maybe even 12. When he is 5 I'll start teaching him about firearms. (I've got a lot to pass down to him). He won't be a pushover.
