Battle-scarred from skirmishes at the State Fair and the AFL-CIO Labor Day Rally, the "Truth Truck" of a gay-marriage opposition group was resting Tuesday in the St. Paul police impound lot, one place where it might not cause a public commotion.
In less than two weeks of operation, the billboard truck -- with its 8-foot tall images of two men kissing and the message "Want Gay Marriage? Vote Democrat this November" -- has been in the middle of two arrests and at least one general fracas.
The latest incident occurred Monday at Harriet Island Park in St. Paul, where some of an estimated crowd of 12,000 that came to hear Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards surrounded the truck, unleashing invectives and airborne objects.
But the only person arrested was the truck's volunteer driver, Edmund Kuznia, 47, of New Hope, who allegedly refused a police order to leave, then pinned an officer's hand in the truck window, causing a possible chipped bone.
Kuznia was being held Tuesday in the Ramsey County jail. He was awaiting arraignment today on a gross misdemeanor charge of assaulting a peace officer.
Officers seized the truck, which is "not uncommon for this type of incident," police spokesman Paul Schnell said Tuesday.
He said that Minnesota Citizens in Defense of Marriage, the truck's sponsor, can get it back by providing proof of ownership and insurance and paying an impoundment fee.
"It's unbelievable to me that this could happen in our country," said Jeff Davis of St. Paul, president of the five-month-old group dedicated to passage of state and federal constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. "Ed was being attacked by the crowd."
Asked about the wisdom of driving the truck into a Democratic gathering, Davis said: "I guess, in retrospect, that was a lesson learned."

On Thursday, however, it got an angrier reaction from a Roseville man who was arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct. Gary Grefenberg, 60, was released without being charged.
In an e-mail to the Star Tribune, Grefenberg said after watching the truck circle the State Fairgrounds, he approached it while it was stuck in traffic and asked the driver who was financing it. "His response was: 'Get away from my truck!' " Grefenberg wrote. "My response was for him to get out of my neighborhood with his lies and hate." Grefenberg said the driver called him a sexual slur and rolled up his window.
Davis said Kuznia said no such things. After Grefenberg stormed the truck, pounding on it and shouting obscenities, Davis said, Kuznia sprayed him with Mace and police intervened.
Why is it that the things the Democrats fear most is pictures? They don't want pictures of gay men kissing used, they don't want pictures of aborted fetuses used, they don't want pictures of 9-11 used. What is it about the power of a picture that drives them into defensive hysterics?

Eeegah.
What is brilliant about this is that I could imagine it being used by a pro-gay marriage organization, too...and it freaks out the dems.
What are they afraid of?
The truth.
A picture rubs their face in their own lack of morality. They can no longer rationalize. Typical democrat response to a message they don't agree with is just what we see here: violence.
Probably the truth.
The truth."

That's right. The truth is that 2 months ago, all but 3 democrat Senators voted against the proposed constitutional marriage amendment. All but 6 Republicans voted for it. If the democrats are in power, homosexual marriage will become ubiquitous and legal.
YyyyYYyyyyeeeEEEeeeeeEEeeeeWWwwwwWWWWwwwww!
Warn a guy before doing that, huh? :)
Blegh! I need to go put Listerine in my eyes now!
Genetic memory.
More than a century ago, the notorious William "Boss" Tweed of New York was getting a lot of bad press. "I don't give a straw for your newspaper articles," Tweed said, "Most of my voters can't read. But they can't help seeing them damned pictures."
We need Bumper stickers that read "Perversion is NOT a civil right"

Jesus said: "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." -from THE BIBLE: Matthew 19:4-6

One for the list. It's obvious that more of these trucks are needed.
Democrats - The Gay Party
Mr. Davis's quotes are disheartening. He should have lashed out at these thugs.
Yup, homo-rights and marriage have to be inextricably linked in the public's mind with Democrats. Since they are linked in reality.
Nothing the "gay" rights promoters hate more is the light shined on what they actually do and what their goals are.
In order to enforce the "gay" rights plan, totalitarianism would have to ensue, since all who oppose it would have to be muzzled, drugged, or imprisoned.
bump
Largely because of the devestating emotional impact. People can support things like abortion or gay marriage in large part because the sort of more shocking parts are largely hidden in abstractions. It's much easier to defend a woman's right to choose than it is to defend a picture of an aborted fetus. Similarly, the only meaningful argument I've seen in favor of gay marriage is that the person happens to like gay people (which is perfectly fine) but a lot of that tolerance in practice depends on not actually seeing "intimate" behavior between gay people.
